Keanu playing Jonah's self-insert. How typical.

8bitjer Mar 17, 2026 +56
My first thought. I was like oh, this is a self reflective piece for Hill.
56
VinylHighway Mar 17, 2026 +68
Shouldn't Jonah Hill be doing that?
68
two_fish Mar 17, 2026 +13
You can’t make money on that tho
13
VinylHighway Mar 17, 2026 +14
Personally after watching "Stutz" on Netflix, I am incredibly disappointed in Jonah Hill as a person. All that work and is still a toxic piece of shit. (see how he treated his ex-girlfriend who is a pro-surfer)
14
JohnCenaJunior Mar 18, 2026 +6
He doesn't know how to apologize
6
Calm-Driver-3800 Mar 18, 2026 +2
This is probably the most Jonah Hill kind of apology. Have someone else do it. And have someone cool play your ego like Keanu Reeves.
2
braxin23 Mar 17, 2026 +34
It’s like Nicolas Cage playing as himself alongside his greatest fanboy.
34
redefine_refine Mar 17, 2026 +12
Yeah but that was realistic. Who else would be Nic Cage's biggest fan, other than a cartel figurehead?
12
sensuspete Mar 17, 2026 +94
Plot twist. No one hates Keanu Reeves.
94
Poseur117 Mar 17, 2026 +26
Matthew Perry sure did
26
alepponzi Mar 17, 2026 +9
I'm sorry what?
9
Poseur117 Mar 17, 2026 +18
In his memoirs or autobiography he wrote about what a d*** he thought Reeves was. I think he insinuated he was to blame for River Phoenix’s death. And it may have been removed from subsequent printings
18
Galahad_the_Ranger Mar 17, 2026 +52
It was different (and arguably worse). He said in the early 2000s he couldn’t understand how young talented actors like River Phoenix and Heath Ledger had been taken from us so young while ones like Keanu were still around. Context for the youngsters that only known him from John Wick and “you’re breathtaking” but in the time between Matrix and John Wick, Keanu was considered one of the worst actors around Hollywood, he was in a couple of box-office bombs, got a handful of Razzie nominations and performed one of the worst attempts at an English accent in cinematic history on Dracula. It in no way excuses Perry’s hateful comment, but just so you know where he was coming from
52
Racist_Godzilla Mar 18, 2026 +10
We don’t love Keanu because he’s a great actor, we love him because he’s a great person.
10
VinylHighway Mar 17, 2026 +23
He's made a ton of good movies for a bad actor
23
[deleted] Mar 18, 2026 -7
That doesn’t mean he doesn’t deserve to live…
-7
alfiesred47 Mar 18, 2026 +1
They aren’t binary things lol, you’re just trying to generate controversy by implying that’s what u/VinylHighway meant
1
[deleted] Mar 18, 2026 +2
I think the comment Matthew Perry made is disrespectful as f***. That’s my opinion
2
alfiesred47 Mar 18, 2026 +2
I agree, but that’s not what you said lmao
2
AhmedF Mar 17, 2026 +18
You are really really badly misrepresenting it. Matthew Perry was just talking about how a few talents died early, and then he compared it to someone like Keanu, implying he isn't a very good actor. That was it.
18
Poseur117 Mar 17, 2026 +15
Yeah I did misremember it now that I re read some stuff. But Perry did say something like “why did river phoenix die and yet Keanu reeves still lives?” Which is an insane thing to make through the first draft
15
AhmedF Mar 17, 2026 +5
Yeah I agree, just it was him shoving his foot waaaaay up his mouth and not any specific attack at Keanu.
5
I_Pariah Mar 18, 2026 +6
I actually like Matthew Perry and his work but if he didn't want to imply an attack on Keanu then he really shouldn't have brought up his or any specific person's name (whether his editor suggested specificity to get buzz, I don't know). There's really no need for that. To put someone down to lift someone else up. That happens way too often these days. IIRC Keanu and River were also REALLY good friends so that's an extra layer of awful to the whole thing.
6
AhmedF Mar 18, 2026
I'm not saying it's okay. But like, you've never ever said something dumb in your life?
0
dj_ethical_buckets Mar 17, 2026 +3
I'm gonna shock a lot of you here, but Matthew Perry did not write his own 'autobiography'
3
alepponzi Mar 17, 2026 +1
I'm sorry what?
1
Happy_Attitude_8627 Mar 18, 2026
Ghost writers

The1andonlyZack Mar 17, 2026 +6
Ya, that sounds super libelous, I'm sure he was told quietly to remove it going forward or they'd sue.
6
Keanu990321 Mar 17, 2026 +3
He applogised for it by expressing his new profound admiration for him.
3
DringleDringle Mar 17, 2026 +1
That's why they call it acting
1
dylank22 Mar 17, 2026 +1
I kinda do

Thats the joke.

Does he also win a l****** and have a hot girlfriend that speaks with a southern accent ?!

Hey Keanu! *Hey Crabman!*
4
TheCitizen616 Mar 17, 2026 +44
The actor everyone loves truly showing his acting range by playing an actor everyone hates.
44
Handitry_Banditry Mar 17, 2026 +14
He has acting range?
14
RefrigeratorNo1160 Mar 17, 2026 +14
I hate to admit it but he really doesn't have much range and yet he's in my top 5 favorite actors. His movies are so fun and as we all know he's just a great dude.
14
Twodogsonecouch Mar 17, 2026 +6
Idk. I feel like the thing is that he kinda sounds the same all the time but i do feel like hes able to hit different emotions pretty well its weird. But hands down hes like one of the best human beings in hollywood. Edit: id just quit watching anything other than like the great british bake off style shows if some scandal about him came out. If hes bad there no hope for anyone in hollywood. That be like if you told me robin williams was a jerk. Hes another saint of a man in that industry it seems
6
DumpedDalish Mar 17, 2026 +17
I honestly think Keanu is a better actor than he's given credit for being. Sure, he was famously bad in Dracula, but he's superb in the Matrix and Wick series, and has done legitimately solid work in River's Edge, My Own Private Idaho, The Gift, Speed, etc. I even think he made the "stoner bro" stuff from Bill & Ted and Parenthood look easier than it was. And for pure physicality, he's beautiful to watch in motion. As I remember a reviewer saying once, watching Keanu in a fight sequence is as satisfying as watching Baryshnikov take a perfect leap. It's art. It's fun to see him evolve.
17
Useful-Soup8161 Mar 17, 2026 +10
Honestly he’s not great in period pieces. He’s needs to stick to modern or futuristic settings which he figured out like 30 years ago so he’s good.
10
VinylHighway Mar 17, 2026 +3
He was great in Much Ado About Nothing ;)
3
DumpedDalish Mar 18, 2026 +2
Yeah, people rag on him but I liked him and thought he was fine. He was cast to be exactly how he was -- it was Branagh's vision, and I thought it was a lot of fun. And I respected Keanu for doing it.
2
VinylHighway Mar 18, 2026 +2
Probably the only Shakespeare movie I’ve ever enjoyed
2
Useful-Soup8161 Mar 18, 2026 +2
I love that movie but he was the weakest one. He looked great though.
2
DumpedDalish Mar 17, 2026 +1
Yeah, I agree. He's better suited to sci fi and modern -- his voice is his weakness in period stuff.
1
mofroman Mar 17, 2026 +2
During the depths of covid I watched every single movie hes ever been in, I strongly suggest the movie permanent record to everyone who shits on him as an actor, it's a really great movie and a very solid performance by a very young keanu. Yeah hes definitely bad in some stuff (knock knock comes to mind as one of the worst movies and performances ever).
2
DumpedDalish Mar 18, 2026 +1
I forgot about that one! I remember thinking he was really good in that, and it was also an unusual role for him.
1
ttw81 Mar 18, 2026 +1
my brother said *knock knock* gives the same vibe as an English dub of an eastern European p*** film.
1
MissPeppingtosh Mar 18, 2026 +1
Omg I did the same thing. That movie was on my radar since it came out. It played nowhere and I never ended up seeing it back then. I bought it a few years ago so I could complete my watch. That movie made me cry! I was like oh I know where this is going, I appreciate it but I won’t cry. Then BAM! Tears. Great movie.
1
layla_jones_ Mar 17, 2026 +4
He has an amazing range actually, a shooting range when he’s preparing for John Wick 🔫
4
Technical-Outside408 Mar 17, 2026 +4
He plays a convincing a****** in The Gift (2000).
4
SomeCountryFriedBS Mar 17, 2026 +7
He was hllarious as himself(ish) in Always Be My Maybe.
7
DumpedDalish Mar 17, 2026 +8
He's seriously terrifying in The Gift -- a feral, abusive redneck. He's really really good there.
8
lykathea2 Mar 17, 2026 +6
Same year, he played a serial killer in The Watcher. It wasn't a great performance, but it was interesting to see. And, it's hilarious seeing him rock out to "Dragula".
6
Goz_system Mar 17, 2026 -2
Why does everyone always love to pretend they're professionals in someone else's field
-2
Handitry_Banditry Mar 17, 2026 +3
So you have never criticized food at a restaurant or anything else in the world you were not an expert at?
3
TheGhostofWoodyAllen Mar 17, 2026 +3
Didn't you know every food critic is a Michelin star chef and every film critic is an Academy Award w*****?
3
omnipotentqueue Mar 17, 2026 +7
Honestly looks lame af - and I’ve been saying this forever - don’t put yourself in your own movies, it makes them seem pretentious. I guess Jonah wanted to give himself a new look or whatever for shock value, but it just doesn’t work. Keanu on the other hand can never go wrong. My guess is the story and cinematography are shit on this one.
7
wowveryclevername Mar 17, 2026 -1
The Keanu glaze is insane. Boring actor with zero range but Reddit thinks he’s the coolest.
-1
[deleted] Mar 18, 2026
Midwit ass take. Yes Reddit Keanu loved peaked years ago you’re on the bandwagon of just calling him a bad actor like every other drone here. Say something original
0
wowveryclevername Mar 18, 2026
Uhhh ok? The comments here are full of glaze except for very few saying he has zero range which is true. Halfwit ass take.

derpferd Mar 17, 2026 +17
It looks like indulgent, navel gazing Hollywood wank. I sort of despise these films that are about the ultra wealthy. There's something a bit offensive about them, especially in a time when that quality of life and good fortune is not the story of many
17
cinefilestu Mar 17, 2026 +13
First Good Fortune and now this, Keanu is making some great comedy movies right now.
13
EntertainmentQuick47 Mar 17, 2026 +7
Both directed by a comic actor who also co-stars
7
[deleted] Mar 18, 2026 +1
Yeah I was wondering why this felt so familiar. It’s like the same exact rehash of the self aware meta role that has probably already been done better in an episode of The Studio
1
everythingbeeps Mar 17, 2026 -2
And who are both complete shitheads
-2
Dio44 Mar 17, 2026 +3
If he is convincing in this role, give him the Oscar immediately. Using the most beloved actor to play the most hated actor role is ballsy
3
QueasyCaterpillar541 Mar 17, 2026 +15
F*** Jonah Hill, this show looks like it was made for like, 150 people who live in Santa Monica.
15
wowveryclevername Mar 17, 2026 -7
Do people not like him because his ex said he was gaslighting her or something like that several years ago? Because if so, that is f****** weird. Dude was hilarious is Superbad, War Dogs, good in Moneyball. Are people supposed to care about a shitty relationship where nobody was harmed or abused? Lol
-7
DismasNDawn Mar 17, 2026 +11
You know who's f****** weird? Jonah Hill is f****** weird.
11
wowveryclevername Mar 17, 2026 -9
Because Reddit told you so or what?
-9
Difficult_Garage_431 Mar 17, 2026 -4
Because we believe women.
-4
wowveryclevername Mar 17, 2026 -5
So he had a bad relationship several years ago and both have moved on so now he’s a piece of shit? I don’t think she’s lying that he might’ve been a shit boyfriend but I don’t think that means you’re irredeemable like people talk about him lmao. Talk about an overreaction…
-5
streetbutt92 Mar 17, 2026 +8
Because he’s genuinely an a******. It’s well known. Chevy Chase was hilarious but that doesn’t excuse him from being judged, rightfully so, as a piece of shit.
8
wowveryclevername Mar 17, 2026 -1
So I googled “why do people hate Jonah hill” and the most popular responses were just random people on reddit saying because he “weaponized therapy talk” to his ex and other anonymous random conjecture from Redditors. Apparently another guy on set of this is the end said he didn’t like him either? Time to pack it up, he’s the worst human on earth! Lol…
-1
QTRqtr Mar 17, 2026 +6
Jonah hill has had a bad reputation in Hollywood since Superbad.
6
wowveryclevername Mar 17, 2026 -1
Silly… he asked his girlfriend to put her ass away on Instagram or he’ll end the relationship and apparently that’s controlling behavior? Sounds like setting boundaries and the relationship wasn’t going to work. You can end a relationship or friendship do whatever reason you see fit. Jay Baruchel said he was difficult to work with on this is the end. Wow, never heard of an actor being a pain in the ass… This is the Reddit hivemind at work.

2
jkoutris Mar 17, 2026 +2
I feel like I’ve seen some version of this film a few times. Funny People and Jay Kelly seem to follow the same basic idea: a famous and lonely movie star who pushed away the people who loved him is forced through some traumatic event to look back on his empty life and try to make amends, only to learn what an a****** he’d truly been along the way. It’s kinda tired as a premise at this point and I’m tired of watching movies about movie stars.
2
NotAsBrightlyLit Mar 17, 2026 +2
This sounds way too much like "Good Fortune" - which despite having Keanu and Seth Rogan, was awful. I'm not trusting Keanu until he makes amends for that one.
2
FreeEdmondDantes Mar 18, 2026 +2
Keanu Reeves is a fantastic actor. He just isn't a convincing actor. There's a difference. He performs as an actor, in a likeable and entertaining way, but at no point does his acting seem real.
2
badhamster89 Mar 18, 2026 +2
Live action bojack horseman for the win!
2
_evilalien_ Mar 19, 2026 +2
Cast the most likable actor? So crazy that it just might work.
2
ClimateAncient6647 Mar 17, 2026 +3
Lost me at Jonah Hill
3
EliteJoz Mar 17, 2026 +2
"okay so Keanu Reeves plays a guy who everybody hates" "Yeah. You lost me. Totally unbelievable. What's next? Jonah Hill plays a guy who sticks to his diet?"
2
better_every_day14 Mar 17, 2026 +3
Let me guess, he’s going to use weaponized therapy speak to get his way?
3
LooseSeal88 Mar 17, 2026 +1
Other than two Netflix movies within the last five years, it has been a long ass time since Jonah Hill has been in movies. I know he had that weird scandal a few years ago and has mostly been producing, but it's odd that he randomly just stopped leading in comedies randomly after 22 Jump Street.

It'll be hilarious to see, especially with how universally embraced keanu is...

F*** Jonah Hill & his ozempic stock pile. My boundaries require him to never have a public voice again. Respect my authoritah you insecure prick!
1
wowveryclevername Mar 17, 2026 +2
I made this comment in here also but why do people hate him again? This one is so weird to me.
2
Difficult_Garage_431 Mar 17, 2026 -6
He's emotionally abusive.
-6
wowveryclevername Mar 17, 2026 +1
To one person several years ago. I guess we should hate him forever? Lol… like I responded to you in your other comment, people talk about him like he’s a massive piece of shit who beats or rapes women. Insane.
1
freakdageek Mar 17, 2026 +2
I’m not required to support people who suck.
2
wowveryclevername Mar 17, 2026 +1
For sure not but I think it’s odd that the Reddit hive mind hates on him. Especially now that he’s skinny and it’s socially acceptable to make fun of his body now…
1
freakdageek Mar 17, 2026 +1
Eh, you’re right. There are other more meaningful reasons not to really like the guy. I don’t dig the weird body analysis stuff.
1
Salt_Day4586 Mar 17, 2026 +1
Can this guy make a movie not about him?

Jonah Hill made a film about Jonah Hill starring the least like Jonah Hill actor that there is

Still love Keanu, always will but he lost a bit of ...after shilling for Rogers Wireless Mobile in those embarrassing commercials. Not as bad as his prior John Krasinski dancing on a boat for Rogers but equally terrible. Yes I know they all do commercials. But Keanu didn't seem that "type". I guess the Matrix/John Wick money has run out.
