Key inflation gauge jumps to highest level in 3 years as Iran war spikes gas prices
A key inflation measure jumped in March as gas prices soared, the latest sign that the Iran war is pushing up the cost of living and delaying any interest rate cuts by the Federal Reserve.

mstrbwl Apr 30, 2026 +372
They're just lying and saying the average was $6/gal under Biden lol.
372
EmotionalBrother1220 Apr 30, 2026 +115
I don't think I ever saw it above 3.80 at its worst with Biden. Just 2 days ago it jump from 3.50 at some places to 4.20 at the same gas stations. Edit: that's NC btw. Could be different in other places

Economy-Ad4934 Apr 30, 2026 +87
They are now citing oil prices (not pump prices) in 2022 which were higher but gas wasn’t this bad. From the people who live to show you maps where they think land votes
87
Kvothetheraven603 Apr 30, 2026 +27
The highest ever recorded national average for regular unleaded gasoline was $5.016 in June, 2022. The national average today is $4.300. https://gasprices.aaa.com/ That said, the price in 2022 had nothing to do with Biden or his policies. Conversely, the current gas price issue is directly due to Trump’s decision to start a war with Iran.
27
06_TBSS May 1, 2026 +6
Ironically, the 2022 prices were partially due to Trump policy. He made a deal with OPEC to cut production during the height of the pandemic, so that oil prices wouldn't suffer too bad. By the time things were opening back up, production still had not resumed to pre-pandemic levels, causing supply to not meet demand, thus making prices high.
6
Shelltonius May 2, 2026 +2
You are forgetting Trump blundering Covid fucked up supply chains for years; the 2022 prices were all Trump’s fault.

Yep you’re exactly right smh

5
bakinbaker0418 Apr 30, 2026 +6
Its ridiculous!! Theres 2 rutters by me and one was 4.09 and the ither 4.19 (dont know why especially when theyre less then a mile apart) but over the last 3 days they both shot up to 4.39
6
Lithiumxxxl Apr 30, 2026 +13
Why is it ridiculous? The Hormuz is shut, there is a global shortage of oil. Thank your president.
13
EmotionalBrother1220 Apr 30, 2026 +12
Thank you Trump for being the worst president we have ever seen in US history!!!
12
Lithiumxxxl Apr 30, 2026 +7
He’s the worst by a good margin. I guess it’s Nixon, maybe Harding. In reality no one is even in Trumps ballpark. Narcissist Field, maybe Home of the colossal Liars.
7
bakinbaker0418 Apr 30, 2026 +17
Um its ridiculous because we never should of been in the position to begin with. I absolutely hate the pos with a passion, he even stated himself that this election was rigged because of Elon and his wallet. Millions of people across earth are suffering or going to be suffering even more because of him. Its absolutely ridiculous to me to that this fycking circus is still going and its not going to stop soon. Especially after this WH shooting that seems pretty clear it was a set up to fast track that 400 million dollar ballroom that were going to be paying for. But yet Medicaid is the devil.
17
Domicristo Apr 30, 2026 +17
I’ve been keeping gas prices in my notes every time I get gas. Here’s what I have so far. I’m in NJ March 3rd - $2.89 March 13th - $3.59 March 21st - $3.89 March 31st - $4.19 April 9th - $4.10 April 16th - $3.99 April 20th - $3.99 April 25th - $4.10 April 28th - $4.29 April 30th - $4.39 EDIT: As of May 5th it has risen to $4.60

5
redyellowblue5031 Apr 30, 2026 +8
It crested over 7 \[in California\](https://www.pbs.org/newshour/amp/show/why-gas-prices-are-so-much-higher-in-california-and-how-the-state-is-reacting). Not representative of the whole country (or even the state) obviously, but it did happen.
8
Coopertheeblooper Apr 30, 2026 +6
Yeap there were some places that most definitely got to $7.50 maybe even 8 but the Average was most likely in the high $5.50 probably not even over 6 average wise but it definitely got over 6
6
oregongirl1111 Apr 30, 2026 +3
Here in southern Oregon, it jumped forty cents overnight to $5.49 for c**** stuff, 5.99 for premium and 6.49 for diesel.
3
snuffles504 Apr 30, 2026 +3
Yeah I paid $7 filling up my rental car at SFO yesterday. $84 bucks total.

6.39 just south of Seattle.

Feligris Apr 30, 2026 +18
I'm not an American but to me "Biden's administration brought us high gas prices too!" claim is such a frustrating comparison, since it's true on a purely technical level but *Biden and his administration had practically nothing to do with it* because they were busy putting out fires left behind by Trump's first incompetent administration and the COVID-19 pandemic while oil prices were springing back from an artificial (and destructive) low. After which Biden's administration had to deal with the huge shock and mess caused by Russia going for a full-scale offensive war against Ukraine in 2022 and Hamas/Palestine attacking Israel in 2023. So yeah, gas prices were higher than during Trump's first administration because Trump was nominally "lucky" that a worldwide pandemic caused a temporary overflow of oil, but the pricing during Biden's term had little to do with him whereas the current situation is 100.00% caused by Trump and his actions are actively prolonging the supply issues because he's a prideful fool who keeps refusing reasonable offers to end the conflict since he's determined that it'll be his way or the highway. And he's old and rich enough that nothing matters to him at this point because he'll be the last person in the US to be touched by the supply issues.
18
CaptainJAmazing Apr 30, 2026 +7
Also, it won't be long until gas prices get back to above the highest that they were in the Biden years. Before this happened, you still saw Trump supporters distorting the prices. They'd share memes showing the single lowest gas price sign (from during covid lockdown, which he assured us would never happen) to represent the Trump years, and then put it next to a pic of a new 7-11 testing out their new sign with a "price" set at $7.11 and have that represent the Biden years.
7
Blueberry_H3AD Apr 30, 2026 +11
I used to see a lot of dumb stickers on gas pumps with Biden pointing at the price saying “I did that!” There was even a big sign coming off my highway exit saying the same thing. This was when gas was $2.80 - $3.10 on average. Crickets now. Although I will say I’ve seen some Trump stickers doing the same thing so hopefully the tide is turning here in Trump country. Also someone has been writing “TRUMP RAPED CHILDREN” on their money and it’s circulating around here.
11
WellWellWellthennow Apr 30, 2026 +23
How can they believe these lies? Didn't they see it with their own eyes? Oh I forgot they're told not to believe what they see with their own eyes but instead to believe what they're told. Sadly Christians pews have corrupted the real message of Christianity and have trained their followers like sheep to put their faith above reason and common sense and not to trust their own awareness.

winelover08816 Apr 30, 2026 +4
This number will keep rising. Eventually they’re going to claim it was $10 for his entire term and only came down after the 2025 inauguration of their Lord and Savior Jesus Trump.
4
A_Nonny_Muse Apr 30, 2026 +3
Yep, and they're all claiming trumps name doesn't appear anywhere in the Epstein files. I'm not making this shit up.
3
Cohens4thClient May 1, 2026 +2
and at the same time claiming theres no files and the files dont have pictures and trump never shows up except hes a FBI undercover informant and now theres no arrests be ause its all unfair But also trump raped kids and its all Biden's fault.

3
Mr_MacGrubber Apr 30, 2026 +6
$6? It was like eleventy billion. Still worth it to spend 3/4 of my paycheck filling my daily driver dually to roll coal so I could own the libs.
6
vlad_inhaler May 1, 2026 +2
While totally ignoring the cause for both spikes, we had post Covid demand roaring back and Ukraine being invaded taking oil offline. This is just Trump getting dogwalked into war by Bibi
2
thegoodnamesrgone123 Apr 30, 2026 +98
In NJ they are blaming the Governor. They want her to suspend the gas that was proposed by Chris  Christie and was voted on a decade ago. Somehow it's her fault. These people f****** suck.
98
rabidstoat Apr 30, 2026 +44
My red state governor very quickly suspended the gas tax, to make Republican decisions look less awful.
44
IaMm1N3 Apr 30, 2026 +26
Same here. Kick the can down the road. Blame the libs.
26
TypeB_Negative Apr 30, 2026 +20
Only the dumbest of the dumb can believe the liberals did a worse job than Trump. I mean, you have to be borderline insane. Every indicator is telling you Trump is a complete baboon. Just like we said he was
20
Beneficial-Cycle7727 Apr 30, 2026 +7
The first time!
7
Oregon-Pilot Apr 30, 2026 +7
Anyone with a shred of good judgment could see from his first campaign that he was totally not fit for the job in SO many ways, but the most obvious was that he was just a piece of shit. Took me 30 seconds of watching him talk to realize that. How people still support him 10 years later…..we must be different species.

Senor-Nasty Apr 30, 2026 +8
People were cheering for Hitler as the Soviets were knocking down their front door.
8
CrotalusHorridus Apr 30, 2026 +15
I bet your state is also running at a near deficit and having to cut education and infrastructure to pay for it.
15
Equivalent-Gur416 Apr 30, 2026 +9
That’s big chunk of revenue to forego between budget cycles. Great excuse to further cut social services, I guess.
9
Ra_In Apr 30, 2026 +13
And I'm sure that if we have a Democrat in the White House after 2028, your governor will blame that president for the deteriorating state of your roads.
13
Beneficial-Cycle7727 Apr 30, 2026 +9
This will backfire in heavily populated states. Gas taxes pay for roads and repairs.
9
rabidstoat Apr 30, 2026 +7
Yeah, but our governor is term limited so that's an SEP (Someone Else's Problem).
7
BeatSalad25 Apr 30, 2026 +6
Suspending gas tax is the worst thing you can do for iinfrastructure. I work local municipality and it funds all the street projects here. Nothing else. Traffic light Pole knockdown? Potholes? No longer funded.
6
A_Nonny_Muse Apr 30, 2026 +5
Those same Republicans will close all the state run medical clinics and asylums and dump all the patients on the street to save their state budget. They love to kill the most vulnerable to save a buck.
5
mistere213 Apr 30, 2026 +6
Same in Michigan where 2026 brought with it a new gas tax calculation that was bipartisan. Oh, and there's the fact that when gas is over $3.50/gallon, under the NEW rate, we actually pay less tax per gallon than under the previous rate. So the change is actually saving us money with each gallon in the current environment.
6
Lifesagame81 Apr 30, 2026 +2
Same in California. Even governors campaigns are centring around suspending the gas excise tax, the most recent portion we voted in a decade ago.  This would blow a hole in turning for local public roads and highways and transportation projects across the state. We're already in a budget crisis, so there are no funds to move to keep projects and maintenance going if we nix this 60 cents of the $6 gas we're paying, but it's something the state has the power to do, so it's the proposal.  If gas goes to $7 or $8 I'm not sure knocking $6 off of every $80 in gas is going to move the needle for people. More tires and windshield repair will probably offset the savings.
2
Skensis Apr 30, 2026 +3
Yeah, it's really not that much in savings. Removing CAs gas tax saves me like $200 a year or something?
3
Hufflepuffpassmethej Apr 30, 2026 +26
yep! vast majority of comments on facebook from the deplorables are "well gas was $X.XX under biden!!" as if they are totally stoked to be paying extra costs, all because its a republican doing it and not a democrat. truly brainwashed and braindead
26
Cohens4thClient Apr 30, 2026 +12
Aside from the other bot infestation comment that "trump raped kids but its actually Bidens fault somehow" It really is amazing how deeply f****** stupid the bootlickers are to eat up those lines

In the PNW they’re all saying “it’ll come back down. Unlike under Biden”. Brother, who do you think brought gas down to $2.75 for the orange moron to triple the price?
10
Politicsboringagain Apr 30, 2026 +3
You can show them all the proof that gas was under $3.30 on a lot of places and even under $3.00 at the end of Biden, but they just ignore it.
3
Unable_Librarian_443 Apr 30, 2026 +6
Blaming previous presidents for the current situation will never not be the lamest most over played trick in the book that is always used. It gets used so much for so many things that it's almost like what's the point of even having a current president if past presidents are the ones controlling everything apparently.
6
Waiph Apr 30, 2026 +8
So some things take time to resolve while other things have immediate effects. Like, Biden got inflation down a lot, but prices were high cause inflation is a rate. It took a long time to do and Trump's bad economic policy took time to fix. Also, global pandemic. But starting numerous trade wars then a WAR war has immediate consequences that will last years if not decades. Also the president doesn't directly control a lot of things, but boy can they screw shit up
8
316510 Apr 30, 2026 +2
They are. I work as a nail tech in indiana (i hear all the opinions) and they are blaming Biden for the keystone pipeline stuff.

Same in Michigan. Paid 3.93 Monday morning and by Wednesday night we hit 4.99
6
mangomypango Apr 30, 2026 +3
Almost shit myself when I saw the price. I have a bad habit of just pulling up to the pump and swiping without really looking. But that 4.99 this morning stopped me immediately. In Ohio as well. It was like 3.99 last night
3
OneSeaworthiness7768 Apr 30, 2026 +8
I paid $4.38/gal this week in PA. Highest I’ve ever seen it in my area I think. It was 3.99 last week.

20 cents overnight here in NJ.

those are rookie numbers, and that's just a week. wait unti the Summer when things get more interesting as Iran decided to not talk but is having the we don't accept emails or phone call meetings prank he's doing right now, must be official visits. That's some art of the Deal stuff to show who actually controls 20% of the world's soft power.

Michigan here. 2 months ago it was $2.79, 2 days ago it was $3.99, today its $4.99.

Don't remind me 😩 I used to pay $13 for a tank, it was 36 yesterday which isn't a lot compared to some, sure, but I got my first apartment in March (about 1day before trump started this bullshit! waking up to that news was so fun) and It's eating even more of my budget now

Says who? Fox News says we are winning so hard. Iran war over quick, gas and food prices down, 90% of the country has access to affordable healthcare, NO TAX on tips! What more do you want man. We already won so much we have a lil extra to give to Israel. VA benefits to Israeli American IDF soldiers. We need to win less actually

I've seen that one. Also the deflection of "Can you imagine how bad things would be by now if Kamala was in charge?" I told him that I couldn't argue with his imagination and insisted he answer the actual question about Trump's promise to bring prices down. He went silent.
5
cafedude Apr 30, 2026 +3
Even if gas prices were to just stay flat from here (which isn't likely) then in May the inflation numbers would look much better and they'd claim victory.

I just paid $4.89 yesterday at Costco in Oregon. And Costco always has the cheapest price in town, so I won’t be surprised if I see places over $5/gal now, or if not now, then soon. 😓

Anyone else notice a reduction in traffic in their city since the price hike?
10
Kirklistentowutang Apr 30, 2026 +10
Nope, not sense every company and government got rid of remote work a couple years ago. Really don't understand why that was politicized. Every republican i know drives a huge truck and complains about traffic. Like wouldn't you want lower gas prices and reduced traffic on roads? Because that's what remote work did.

Wisconsin’s one of the last states to get fucked by gas prices and even we got fucked. Shits fucked. But hey I mean Trump is more infallible than Jesus now, so everything’s forever fine and never wrong when he does something. I lowkey want to see it rise all the way up to 6$ for the cheapest gas just to see how maga defends this ass wipe even harder while forking over >100$ to fill up their gas tank every other week If Trump asked his followers to drink gas, they’d say it has its benefits by eliminating 99% of bacteria

I find this extremely irritating. Petroleum prices are dynamic. When the prices were falling and housing prices were softening last year, the administration was touting "inflation back to normal." Energy costs were always going to go back up. Housing prices were always going to stabilize and start increasing, again. The cost to live has been increasingly shitty this whole time. But no, NOW is the time to panic. And we did it to ourselves. If inflation is "normal" when two of your biggest drivers are going down, YOU STILL HAVE A PROBLEM! Those market gains are not real. Our money just isn't worth as much as it used to be. I'm sorry. I know that's disjointed and rambling, but I feel like I'm taking crazy pills.

Lets stop normalizing this war. Its not an Iran war, its an illegal act of agression by the US. At the very, very least its the US/Iran war. US started it. Its their problem. Throw Israel into that mix too as its US/Israeli/Iranian war.

Whoa whoa whoa, let's be accurate...Military Operation, not war! That's why the liquor cabinet and Pudding Brain could act without Congressional approval.

We’re cooked. America is so ass now. Bankruptcies are at an all time high. Credit card debt and default are at a high as well. Now more than ever we get fewer services for our taxes. They raised the age limit to 42 years of age to enlist…. Now the draft. All so they can take away veterans benefits when you return home. Wealth gap is at its widest ever. We lost our strong man vide by this idiotic administration around the world due to incompetence. Racist aholes are taking away rights. Dollar is tanking. And it’s just over 1 year into trumps presidency. Can’t even imagine what things will look like after 3 more years… i expect to see his stupid ugly mug splashed on more stuff. Mount Rushmore, maybe the dollar bill. Maybe statues in random places. His face will probably end up at the bottom of the Washington reflection pool. It’s crazy, exhausting and it’s embarrassing.

I remember when gas cost $1-2 something. This is madness.
4
SomeBaldDude2013 Apr 30, 2026 +4
And it's all entirely self-inflicted, unlike the high gas prices during Biden's term.

Kroger keeps track of my purchases going back 4 years. I can look up what I bought this time last year, and what I paid. I can compare the price then to today. My grocery bill has gone up just a hair under 31% in just the past year. All of it under trump. If this keeps up, trump will have inflated the cost of food 294% in his 4 years in office.

Weird as petrol prices in NZ and AU are dropping.

I’m confused. Why don’t I see a bunch of stupid “I did that” stickers with the orange clown on gas pumps?
3
AndrewDiss Apr 30, 2026 +5
While I get the sentiment, many of us just aren't assholes who want to inconvenience the gas station workers that have to clean that shit off the pumps. MAGA idiots don't and didn't give a f*** because they're self-centered.

LoganCaleSalad Apr 30, 2026 +2
It's just under $4/gal here it was almost never over $3.50 & even got as low just over $2 at times. But as we all know this is what authoritarians do they tank the economy while dismantling government institutions so that the populace is dependent on the dictator's whims so better not revolt or you don't eat, you don't keep a roof over your head, etc.

In Tacoma, WA I just paid $5.40 on a Native American reservation; non-reservations stations are about $5.75 or more
2
nwbeeceefriend Apr 30, 2026 +2
I just paid $6.08/gallon in Seattle. Now if youll excuse me, I'll get back to looking at bikes and bus passes before those prices start to climb too. *BTW, do the MAGgots really think gas companies are going to actually lower gas prices whenever this war/"excursion" is over??
2

That's the imbecile that you voted for, i.e. make America 'great' again.

Southern Oregon- $5.15 for the c**** stuff, $5.75 for premium and $6.21 for diesel last week. Today, it's $5.49, $5.99 and $6.49, respectively. I honestly don't know how some people are dealing with this. We've had to stop driving as much.

dougl1000 May 1, 2026 +2
It’s going to get much worse even if the Strait is fully opened tomorrow. Oil futures are trading near $100 into the fall.
