I was gonna say even split in half an AWACS aircraft's value can be salvaged, until I saw the half they split is the whole half holding the valuable radar and electronic components. Idk if it was a drone or missile but it looks like they precisely targeted the valuable part of the aircraft.
Reminds me of the Ukraine operation that released drones from within Russia and the POV of the operator footage shows them deliberately going for the irreplaceable radar dome.
No idea what the cost to replace the airframe is. Online results suggest $700+ million. Air Force specs say it cost $270 million 1998 dollars, which Google tells me is at least $541 million today. Either way, a very expensive mistake. Add it on to the billions from the lost THAAD and other radar arrays, and the 3 F-15s, and the KC-135s, and the F-35.
These are some pretty staggering equipment losses for a few weeks of a "special military operation."

We will end up like Russia in the end. The elections will be rigged to the point where they will be show elections. Simply there to give the illusion that you have a choice. Most of the population will be pacified through propaganda to accept the regime. All upper echelons of power will be corrupt. Law enforcement and military will be there to keep the regime in power and to suppress dissent. Overtime, more and more wealth and power will be concentrated into the top 100 elites in the county. Similar to power structure in russia. Everyone else in the country will effectively be used to do the bidding of the elites like running the factories and fighting wars against anyone that is a rival to the regime.

Alinsky noted that power is derived from two sources. Money and People.
The no kings protests clearly show we have the people.
However, 99.9% of the protestors are not willing to sacrifice their health, their ability to provide for their families, go to jail, etc etc etc.
No. They can not stop us all.
We truly could have all Naruto run in to area 51.
We can take our country back and rebuild it Steve Austin style (better stronger faster)
But sacrifices have to be made.

The only thing that will tumble this administration that doesn't involve a civil war is a general strike.
The people have the power, they have always had the power, but sacrifices need to be made for actual real life change.

It is only a matter of time. If things get hard enough for that 99.9%, then you will see more people willing to take action.
Everyone is just hoping for the best and trying to ride out these, supposedly, 4 years. I don't think that is in the Project 2025 playbook. When you and your children are facing starvation, you will find yourself a lot more willing to kill a man/woman.
We will need leaders though. I'm not sure I have seen anyone in media who can take up that mantle. Though I sure they would appear.

You're not going to do anything remotely close to civil war. Look at you protesting, you arrange it on Saturdays because if you did it during weekdays you'd risk getting fired.
Yesterday about 8 million people joined protests nation-wide... on a Saturday. How can you even believe that a civil war is a possibility when you're not able to get more than 2% of the US population to join protests on a weekend.
Also civil war isn't something that could realistically happen in the USA anyways, what are you going to do fighting the largest army in the world?

LMAO. Americans couldn't even get off their fat asses to vote. You think they're going to go and join and armed uprising, risking their life? Fat chance. The only ones likely to do that are same right wing nutjobs that voted for Trump. So the only sort of action you're likely to see is a repeat of January 6 from Trump's last term. But I doubt that will be required this time since the country has rolled over on everything he has done so far. And I mean this will all due kindness and respect.

Overwhelmingly? Idk about that. Probably about 60-40, with lower support for Trump among officers and as you go up the ranks. Republicans are just really good at making everyone think they’re the party of the military and patriotism and bravery and principles… by being the loudest assholes in the room.
There are a lot of h******* Christian nationalists in the military for sure, and they’re drinking the kool aid: getting it from their pastors, families, news, and friends. But there are also a lot of liberals, people who realize their military healthcare and benefits are socialist, govt-run, and way better than they had in civilian life. And nobody knows the true cost of war like military and veterans.
I think a lot of people thought this would be like Trump’s first term: the adults in the room stopping him from doing the things he says he would?
I’m not trying to make excuses for them. Anyone who voted Trump 2024 after 2016 and 2020 is either sociopathic or disconnected from reality. But the military on the whole does understand adversaries can fight back. They knew Hormuz would be closed. They aren’t dumb or incompetent.

Bit worrying on how the government and the press are lying on the losses in this war. I mean the Trump government lying shouldn't come as a suprise but still, you'd expect the press to be more inquisitive. This is Russia/Iran level of denial. Also what really happened to the USS Ford and the supposed "laundry room fire"? If this is how they lie about the equipment imagine all the bs when boots on the ground are happening.

im_thatoneguyMar 29, 2026

More like $720m which is the price of an E-7, the new replacement model based on the Boeing 737 instead of the 707.
Trump cancelled it last year even though the Australians field them. Trump decided to buy into “space based” AWACS which I wouldn’t be surprised to be based on SpaceX Starshield/Starlink.
But last week reversed course under congressional mandate to buy E7s as a stop gap.

49
theycallmeJTMoneyMar 29, 2026
+22
If you could even replace it which would probably not be economically feasible. You would have to pull a 707 airframe out of mothball, which those planes have been pricked over for parts for decades so good luck with that. The you have to retrofit it to bring it up to the current block.
I’m assuming that’s where the $1.2B price tag is coming from. The USAF would never pay that, they’d as sooner build a new platform which doesn’t make sense either.
The E-3 currently fills a very niche role of airborne warning and control that a drone could in theory do but would come with trade offs; like having to have ground based crews, and even the seconds of increased latency would impact the mission role. I see it very much as in a similar situation as the A-10. It seems like it should be easily replaceable but its role is so specialized that only building a direct successor purpose built for the role would actually fill the gap of capability.
22
GadshillMar 29, 2026

Price increases and survivability concerns for the replacement E-7 Wedgetail program drove the decision to cancel the program. Officials in their infinite wisdom reasoned that the task of tracking airborne targets, known as air moving target indication (AMTI), can be shifted to satellites. Fortunately, Congress intervened and the program has legs for now.

note that the E7 was first designed FOR Australia, and the program started decades ago.
Australia has been flying the E7 for 15 years operationally.
the USA decided it wanted its own particular version, spent hundreds of millions developing it and blowing costs as per usual, then cancelled in in favor of the ridiculous pipe dream of space based tracking.
they could have bought off the shelf a decade ago, and are now left holding an empty bag.

The airforce screwed up. Should of scattered the planes among different bases and move them around. Imagine if there was a video of something like this happening. Oh there is, when ukraine used drones to destroy russian aircraft on the ground. The airforce has a doctrine on this. ***agile combat employment***, note 1-21. The airforce failed to use their own doctrine. Its hard logistically but better than losing airframe. We can learn a lot from Ukraine.
