Trump will embarrass Charles as a power play. There's just no way he can manage to be respectful to someone he doesn't directly need something from for more than a few minutes.

He'll utter some nonsense about how he'd love to also be a king.

He probably lost the physical capacity to do so, as it happens to dementia-ridden octogenarians.

President Crybaby can't do the armpull bully move anymore. Sad!

ialo00130 19 hr ago +3
The world say how Trudeau handled it, and every other leader immediately copied the counter move. It made it ineffective, so Trump stopped doing it to avoid embarrassment. That was also the moment Trump started his hate-on for Canada, which has gotten a little better under Carney.

I dunno. He's a very superficial man, with a love of gold and all things gaudy... and then there's Trump! But seriously Trump might be shallow enough to think of "mates with a King" as a status symbol and the route to maybe being made honorary King himself. They've rolled back most of the constitution; why not go all the way? My money's on "Charles is a great man. Asked me for a lot of advice." sort of thing.

Trump is known to have a soft spot for the royals.

Like playing chess with a pigeon. In the end, the pigeon knocks over all the pieces, shits on the board and struts around like hes won.

The pigeon is a much more noble creature, but otherwise, perfect.

This will not work. Its not the fault of UK that the relationships is so bad. Its because of Trump and that americans have elected him and his policies. And that wont change quickly, especially not with one visit. Pandering Trumps ego with a visit of a king, might buy a few weeks to month more time to decouple from the US, but ultimately the relationships are not fixable. Especially not while Trump is in the white house. And I am sure that the UK and every other leader in the world, which got half a brain, knows that.

as long as trump still breathes, there will never be a good relationship with everyone

This is pretty much it. If he leaves office in 2028, it still won’t mean much if he maintains the position as the leading figure in Republican Party politics. While I don’t want many people (including many Americans) to mistake the current state of the Republican Party being almost entirely because of Trump, his presence undeniably contributed to the current state of affairs. One of the clearest domestic examples of what I mean was toward the end of the Biden administration when the administration and many members of Congress tried to pass what would’ve been the fiat piece of immigration legislation in a loooooong time. The Senate, controlled by Republicans, agreed on a bill, and my own Republican senator put a lot of political capital on the line for this bill. For a while, it looked like the House got enough Democrats and Republicans to agree on the Senate’s bill, and Speaker of the House, Mike Johnson, even indicated at some point that he had the votes.  But as this unfolded Trump, who was out of office, was making it known that he didn’t want Biden to pass an immigration bill that close to the 2024 election because it would be a win for Biden and the Democrats on an issue Republicans typically have more trust from the American public on. Gradually, House Republicans backed away from the bill, afraid to be seen as going against Trump. And if people don’t want to believe how much influence Trump has over Republican politicians, I want to inform/remind people that former Republican presidential nominee, Mitt Romney, who went back to the Senate is on record saying that multiple Republican colleagues confided in him that they were afraid to be seen as going against Trump not just because of the usual selfish calculation of potential losing in upcoming primaries but because they were afraid for their safety and that of their families.  And it’s not a wild concern. The whole world saw on January 6th how far segments of Trump’s supporters are willing to go on his behalf as they stormed the Capitol. They also chanted to hang Trump’s own Vice President because the Vice President has the integrity not to play along with the administration and Republican Party’s fake electors scheme. And yes, I indict the Republican Party in that because multiple state level Republican Parties coordinated with people in Trump’s inner circle for that election quackery.

Even if the governments still do business together, (a part of) the people don't forget and boycot shit from the usa as much as possible.

There's no repairing US relations with anyone until Trump is out of office. Unfortunately. Even then, it may be impossible at this point.

I'm not sure why Charles is dignifying Trump with a visit, considering the administration's positions toward Canada and the UK. It should be known by now that playing nice with Trump doesn't earn you any leeway; he treats his "friends" just shitty as his enemies.

woodyus 1 day ago +6
Because he has to the government set his trip up for him and tells him to go. Probably a bad idea but Charles does know how to small talk and trump likes him because he has life long privilege.

Maybe he gets yelled at which is embarrassing for 5 minutes then everyone moves on However, a successful visit could soothe Trump for a few weeks.

How many times do you think Trump tells King Charles that they are the same and he’s basically King of the U.S.?

There's no "restoring" anything until we can restore our own government at this point. Trump destroys everything he touches, save for his own family bank accounts.
