I have always loved Lord of the Rings. I have read them on repeat since 3rd grade. Ive always been interested in movies, and have a deep love for the craft of storytelling, especially when that story is important to the author. That being said, Holy Cow this movie was waaaaay better than I remember it being. And to add on the og king Kong is what inspired Jackson to be a film maker at all, it has a reverance to it that even the new ones can hold up to. ( those are also good though. Kaiju movies are a fave of mine) the whole process of it being a movie being made, and how everything is against them yet everything comes together beautifully at the end. Even the ice skating scene which apparently bothered people. idk. I still love LOTR, of course, and I know im gonna get hate for it, but I honestly think King Kong 2005 deserves more love
No, it's a toss up between Bad Taste and Braindead.

His Kong is some of his best work, but it really suffers from coming right off of the Lord of the Rings high. You can feel his enthusiasm for the property, but unlike LOTR, this isn't a massive epic: the runtime is literally more than twice the original's.
If this shaved off 30-60 minutes, I think it could legitimately have been his best movie, even if I think LOTR will always be his magnum opus. (Or Braindead, that's pretty great too and has a lawnmower.)

Seriously. It takes *an hour* to get to the island.

I love that lol. It builds the suspense so well and once they get there you are so into the story.

I don’t think I’ve watched it in over 15 years, but I remember leaving the theater having loved it.

I remember seeing this in theatres on Christmas Day 2005 and thinking it was pretty epic.
Would love to see it on the big screen again.

Dead Alive for me, but it's probably one of those Lord of the Rings films. I haven't seen them, but I heard they are good.

I'd have to go with *Fellowship of the Ring*, with *Frighteners* and *Dead Alive* tied for second.

totally feel you, king kong 2005 was so underrated. the emotional depth and visuals are on another level, and it really shows how much passion jackson had for the project. it deserves more recognition for sure!
