The Kremlin states peace talks are futile unless Ukraine withdraws troops from Donbas, viewing current diplomatic discussions as unproductive.

Russia will never seriously negotiate anyway. It's up to the world to give Ukraine the tools to push the Russians back - otherwise it never ends.

It was and still is fake negotiating.  It also never seem to end. This goes on for hundreds   of years. Bring an end to this nation.

This is painfully true

Russia be like "there was a whole NATO base in that kindergarden and also a BIO-lab producing anti-Russian virus making Russians gay! Proof? How else is there so much gay sex in the Russian army?!!!"

EU has enough equipment to send to UKR now for them to take back plenty of territory but it’s just trickling down just like the US did, they are no better.

You can’t negotiate with habitual liars. Nothing Russia says can or will be trusted.

noir_lord 5 days ago +129
No it doesn't. It wants Russia out of Sovereign Ukrainian territory. In the end it's what the Ukrainians want.

ResortClear730 5 days ago +23
Well that’s not completely true. They are taking weapons and money from other counties in large amounts. While they don’t have to end the war, pressure can be put on them. I believe the world should just double down on Ukraine and ignore Russia until the wheels fall off.

noir_lord 5 days ago +26
I was referring to negotiations and that the countries supporting Ukraine will support Ukraine for as long as it takes for Russia to leave or Ukraine to decide on negotiations. I see little sign (other than the US) that any of the bigger countries are pulling the plug any time soon. For many reasons, not least if Russia wins this, they'll be back in a decade for *somewhere else in Europe* and frankly it's cheaper to fund Ukraine now than it is to fight that future battle. Setting the precedent that you can be an expansionary power *on a land border with Europe* would be a catastrophically stupid precedent to set... for everyone in Europe.

ResortClear730 5 days ago +20
I agree, I especially don’t see the EU pulling support. A free Ukraine is way better to have on the border than another Russian puppet.

Speak for yourself - Its more likely the world wants Russia (and America, Isreal) to stop attacking for expansion and self-gain

How do you know

There's not been 1 single serious negotiation about the war since they tried to take Kyiv. I still remember the time, when there was a concentrated diplomatic effort to actually solve this before all this happened. They freaking attacked the country while at the table. Another way to turn this is that withdrawing from your own motherland, _even parts you control_ is also "a waste of time" to discuss from Ukraine's side.

Not just 4 years, 12 years.

noir_lord 5 days ago +93
Yes because Russia's definition of "peace" is "a period of time while we re-arm and come back for the rest".

gtfckdbrnlssbts 5 days ago +51
also a "give us all those strongholds that are f****** us up hard right now for free so it's easier to invade when we try again"

bklor 5 days ago +57
They're not wrong that the two sides are still too far apart for serious high level discussions. Russia demanding full withdrawal from Donbass as a prerequisite is completely delusional. So Ukraine have no other options but to keep fighting.

Ukraine's mechanized army is making monumental strides while even putin had to acknowledge the economy is crumbling

USHEV2 5 days ago +26
That part of Donbas that Russia wants for free is the most defended piece of land in the history of the world. It will take 20 years and millions of Russian lives to take it. Withdrawal is not an option under any circumstances, ever. Like even NATO membership which is not even on the table is comparable to the safety of these defences.

I doubt Ukraine will object to a Russian withdrawal from Donbas and all other Ukrainian land...

i agree russia should withdraw from donbas and the rest of ukraine

Indeed talks are pointless until there is a withdrawal from Donbass, and Kherson, Crimea - all of the illegally occupied regions... It is not hard. Russia goes home and then reaches an agreement about how much it must pay in reparations for violating its 1992 treaty obligations. Anything else is a waste of time and interferes with the dismantling of Russian oil refineries and storage capacity. Carry on.

Russia can withdraw from Donbas whenever they want...

Why don't the Russians just withdraw then, are they stupid? SMH

LewisKIII 5 days ago +27
Let Putin send men to the fortress belt they will lose hundreds of thousands of men trying to take the Donbas region! Putin knows it! It would be also absolute stupidity to just give Putin the Donbas because they would give the Russians a road map to help take more of the country! It would put a number of cities in artillery range as well! The Russian economy is going to break the people are slowly cracking with the loss of the Internet and other apps. Ukraine is in a very strong position currently. They have man power issues but they are in a very good position too in many other aspects.

Those who can afford it, please donate to Ukraine, their soldiers need all the help they can get (even if they're in a strong position, it's absolute hell for the guys on the frontlines, and their friends and families not knowing if they'll survive each day, damn I'm in awe of them, they're all heroes)

Richard_Howe 5 days ago +9
They can withdraw from the Donbas region any time they want, are they regarded or something?

FoulMoodeternal 5 days ago +8
Fine. Nothing is stopping Russia from withdrawing from Donbas. So do it already

Russia is free to withdraw from the land they've invaded at any time.

They can withdraw from Donbas... what's the problem? Did they destroy the signposts back to Russia?
11
Avery_Thorn 5 days ago +5
I agree with Russia on something? Whoa. Have they published a timeline for the removal of Russian invading troops from the Ukranian area of Donbas and Crimnea?

wgszpieg 5 days ago +2
At this point the only resolutions are either a frozen conflict, or putin gets bonked and replaced by someone less divorced from reality

Lost-Transitions 5 days ago +2
With the way this going in a few years Ukraine will have fully automated it's defense's and Russians will just keep on walking into them. Ad infinitum.

Seems the same argument Russia would make with the territories it's currently occupying in other Countries like Georgia.

I read the second half first and was unsure whether that was "Kremlin halts" or "Ukraine halts"...
1
Magnus_Helgisson 5 days ago +1
Well, then the solution is obvious: withdraw the f*** out of Donbas and maybe then we can negotiate. If you fuckers are lucky, we’ll even allow your 9th of May parade next year.

Russia can withdraw any time

It’s cute how Russia is the aggressor while also trying to take a tone that positions them as the victims who are trying to be reasonable for a peace plan. Oh, and Putin‘s earliest pretext of the Ukrainians supposedly being Nazis sure didn’t last long or take hold. It’s almost as if that was BS from the beginning…
