For me, Labrinth was a *huge* part of the identity of the show for the first season. The music was absolutely great and it fit in so well with the theme of the show. The second season already had mostly cut off Labrinth's music but for season 3 to not have *any?* That hurts a lot.

Him and Petra Collins made the show what it is, and both have been treated terribly by Sam / execs. Not looking forward to S3

Yeah, everything I read points out everything will suck.

So you're telling me that crash out he had on social media wasn't viral marketing like everyone was saying?

I thought it was real, the Internet is too cynical and thinks everything is marketing or a ploy

PeneItaliano Apr 9, 2026 +78
It was real. His music was scrapped and only Hans Zimmer’s music will be used.

No worries!! Just thought I’d help clarify 😊

Hans Zimmer? Euphoria? Ngl that sounds like a terrible combination. Although Zimmer exploits his understudies anyway, so maybe one of them has a more fitting idea than Zimmer's usual stuff.

That’s what I said when he was brought on to replace score for Blade Runner 2049. He actually created a beautiful and understated score for that film.

Bruntti Apr 10, 2026 +6
In collaboration with Benjamin Wallfisch, right?

First thing I thought of was Cristobal Tapia de Veer being dropped from White Lotus.

PeneItaliano Apr 9, 2026 +24
Yeah. But this is worse because he worked on season 3 but his work won’t be used nor will he be credited

SoundMcSounderson Apr 9, 2026 -29
Lol, how in the hell do you know that? You on the show? You in the editorial room?

TheMilkKing Apr 10, 2026 +23
Right? They’re either psychic, or (unlikely) they read an article from some outlet like Rolling Stone, maybe they got linked to it from a listnook post on r/television

Basically why I decided to watch White Lotus, been following him since Utopia.

ImGonnaImagineSummit Apr 11, 2026 +1
His work on Utopia was so good. I can't describe it with words but it gets under your skin really well.

Is that why they didn't return to the iconic refrain in S3?

speashasha Apr 10, 2026 +3
How come HBO burns off these wonderfully uniquely talented composers behind the scenes?

kendricklamarrfan Apr 10, 2026 +2
I love that show so much, and part is def due to the score. It literally is like its own character and so well made. Future seasons will feel off without him, and will def have to imitate what he made before to fit the vibe

I was JUST thinking this. HBO loves to burn their most iconic composers I guess

427BananaFish Apr 12, 2026 +2
In the case of White Lotus and Euphoria the artists both said they were cool with HBO, it’s the respective show runners they butted heads with.

If you’ve made the decision to pay Hans Zimmer to make a soundtrack, you’re going to use every second of it. Sounds like they strung Labrinth along as a safety net. Shitty behaviour. I hope at least he was paid for his work.

Amazing analogy tbh and I completely agree. it's like when I heard that Cristobal will be departing white lotus in season 4 like his music IS the show??? I guess we'll see with both shows if they can manage without their iconic soundtracks

theTribbly Apr 10, 2026 +54
I feel like it also really undersells how important Labyrinth's soundtrack was to the feel of the show.

Omatzus Apr 10, 2026 +42
Nah, not everything needs Zimmer,, as awesome as he is. Some media needs it's own identity. Labrinth was incredibly important here. Two of his songs with Zendaya were performed as musical numbers on the show.

Wow this season is gonna be ass

FlemPlays Apr 10, 2026 +13
From what I’ve read so far, he might actually end up being glad his music isn’t used and associated with season 3. Heard it’s pretty bad. Haha

lIlIllIIlllIIIlllIII Apr 10, 2026 +1
I mean season 2 was absolute piss so this doesn't surprise me one bit.

That is a name I have not heard in a long time. He did a remix of Express Yourself, right?

Kyuubee Apr 10, 2026 +1
Scummy move by Zimmer. Taking a job away from a young composer when he absolutely doesn't need it. He's already hit the top of the industry and made his fortune. And yet, somehow, this is still completely on brand for him.

all these comments from people who’ve never spun the isolated score albums because nobody cares that much
