He made a harassment complaint to the police. She stupidly talked to the police about it, and confirmed that she had sent the emails. It’s not up to the police to decide whether her actions amounted to a crime, all they knew is that she checked all their boxes, admitted to doing the actions in the complaint and they now had legal authority to arrest her. Police don’t give a shit if you’re actually guilty of anything, they’re just checking boxes. She sent an apology to the man to make the thing go away. Probably a suggestion from the prosecutor as just the quickest way to make it all disappear. So she did. She would never have been convicted of something like this if it had gone to trial, and all parties just wanted to make it go away. So the lesson here is; Don’t talk to the police. Ever. Nothing you can say can help you, and everything you say will be used against you. If she had just ignored the call from the police investigator, the matter would have ended there.
