I don't think shipping will recover in the strait to what it was before the war. It's basically the strait of Iran now. The Gulf states will obviously try to redirect the export away from the stair. This situation doesn't make any economic sense for them or their asian costumers.

Why are people still looking at Trump’s tweets as serious signs of action?

I thought Likud was done when they tanked after October 7 but the fact that they have risen back while flattening Gaza does not give me much hope. The Israeli right has wanted a war with Iran for a whike. The left and center can't get their shit together but there are enough centrists also supporting this.

Because his mental faculties, such as they ever existed, are in relative rapid decline. He’s always been a vibes-based malignant narcissist (at best), now he’s compromised by age, health conditions and is easily swayed by flattery and misinformation. Like a toddler. It’s pretty easy to bamboozle a toddler.

Because all other presidents and congressmen/senators including Trump 1, thought this would be a political disaster. But GOP and Trump himself saw Trump being elected twice, winning popular vote, with Democrat's silent cooperation in the year 1 of his admin.  Trump learned he could get away with anything. GOP learned that he can get away with anything and standing in his way meant their demise - because we talk about how Trump won the popular vote but look how decisively he wiped the floor in the primaries. And Democrats learned even if they do nothing, of rather, faciliate Trump's madness, that will attract swing voters into the big tent as damages accumulate.  Don't be mistaken; Trump was always this way. Refer to Rex Tillerson, Trump 1's secretary of state. Judge him all you want but he had stronger backbone then Rubio's, or lack thereof. And he got fired. And the Americans applauded Trump's way of doing things.  That signaled both isles of the American politics that they stand to gain by letting Trump do anything. He didn't change, in fact, I'd argue against his mental capacity collapsing like a typical listnook 'experts' confidently claim after reading 'news' like newsweek or dailybeast.  Trump has always shown what he is ever since I saw him first in some passing reality show. It's the American public that changed. They learned to either mindless applaud or stand aside and do nothing, "don't interupt your enemy when he's making mistake" the Democratic leardership must have thought. And they're confident they won't be held accountable in next primary cycle.
