"No new wars" to "at least he's decisive and it's basically over" to boots on the ground and the most expensive gas I've ever seen as an adult. *Sigh*

Most expensive gas so far. Fun fact, about half the world's nitrogen and potassium fertiliser is currently blocked from export.  Look forward to 20% to 70% more expensive food next year.

'Lankford, who serves on the Senate’s intelligence committee, said it was important to “finish” the job (...)' If this Lankford person believes that these are the last stages of the war he probably also believed that the mission was really accomplished when Bush was speaking on that aircraft carrier. How in the world is it possible to learn so little from your own recent history? It's even the exact same "they have WMDs" bullshit.

It’s hard to see how even a large number of special operations forces is going to end this. Taking Kharg Island will do nothing about the Strait of Hormuz. Iran is a huge country geographically. I believe it’s already suspected they have deep underground caches of weapons all over the country, they have been preparing for a long time. Ships going through the strait can be targeted by drones and small kamikaze style ships that are pennies compared the the billion dollar a pop US infrastructure. And these can be piloted remotely by individuals or very small numbers of people. It’s not the kind of thing you can bomb your way out of or easily assault your way out of with ground troops either. Not that they can’t to further damage and degrade their ability to do things. But then Iran can strike back at Middle East oil infrastructure and that will really f*** up the global economy in ways we aren’t prepared for.

what do they think 3500 troops is going to achieve? this sounds more like Russias gain ground tactics. and we all know the end result.

3500 additional troops. Most estimates are over 50,000 now.

OK, now where are the other 3 million Epstein files?

They're burying them on the new island and going to blame Iran when they bomb them there.

We could always admit we made a mistake and offer to rebuild what we bombed based on... Trump and Hegseth's say so? I mean I understand we're in deep and there's not a good way out, I just hate to think our only option is to utterly cripple a nation we attacked on a drunk and a rapist's say so.  Yes, I understand there are many terrorist cells operating out of Iran, but the majority of the citizens are just people trying to get by, and now we have to raze their nation to prevent focus on the Epstein files?  Is that really the only option here?
