\>Hot off the record-setting resurrection of EVIL DEAD RISE, writer/director Lee Cronin turns to one of the most iconic horror stories of all time with an audacious and twisted retelling: LEE CRONIN’S THE MUMMY.
\>The young daughter of a journalist disappears into the desert without a trace—eight years later, the broken family is shocked when she is returned to them, as what should be a joyful reunion turns into a living nightmare.
Looks way more like an Evil Dead movie than a Mummy movie.

This is kind of a reimagining of Blood From the Mummy's Tomb (1971) that was done by Hammer and based on a Bram Stoker novel. More a possession story than a mummy one.

Bit disappointing really, we already have Evil Dead, we don’t really need to do it again but wrapped in bandages.

this actually does look like a solid body horror/possession flick, just odd it’s a Mummy movie (as in the Universal horror monster, not the Fraser franchise)

the premise is so weird, this clearly demonic desiccated girl is released from the hospital and allowed to return to her home while it's an absolutely crazy scientific mystery as to how she is even alive. Why would the hospital staff even release her, and why do the parents in the trailer act like there isn't something CLEARLY demonic about her. I'm so confused by the trailer.
1
riegspsych325Apr 1, 2026

I thought the same thing too, hopefully it won’t be as handwaved as the trailer makes it out to be. But everything else does look gnarly and interesting
1

The parents can't afford to keep her in the hospital and they don't qualify for Medicaid so they have to bring her home and hope she gets better for free. Seems realistic to me

As for the "scientific discovery" aspect, all that shit is now de-funded. The story also might confirm that a pagan religion is real. No news station in America would be allowed to touch it.

This is so true, how many times I and an elderly parent have been booted out of a hospital at night, when they should have been kept for more observation after a fall, it's crazy...so yeah...your daughter appears dessicated and rotting, but, we need this bed for someone else with real problems...✅👍‼️😆

Wait. It's not a reboot of the Fraser franchise?
1
riegspsych325Apr 1, 2026
+1
it isn’t, just an adaptation of a classic horror monster (like Dracula, Wolf Man, Frankenstein, etc)
1
salmalightApr 1, 2026
+1
Actually, the Wolf Man is a good point of reference. Since this isn't a Universal flick i think it would be more apt to say this Mummy is to the original mummy what a werewolf movie is to the Wolf Man.
1
WakkichewyApr 1, 2026
+1
I wouldn't even say it's that. A mummy is a real thing with a ton of historical basis. Dracula, wolf man, and frankenstein are mythological creations. It would be more apt to call the movie "A Mummy" instead of "The Mummy"

Right?
The CPS / CFS worker trying to get me to take her home: "what do you mean you don't want her back"
"It's been 8 years and she hasn't aged, you remember she was in an 8000 year old tomb right?"
"She obviously crawled in some how, you’re being dramatic. You are her legal guardian - you have to pick her up".
"Fine but I drive an industrial shredder"

Maybe they shouldn’t have titled it the same thing as one of the most well loved mummy movies of all time. Probably not a great idea
1
xotoramesApr 1, 2026
+1
Brazil and Argentina titled it differently. It's called Curse of the Mummy and The Possession of the Mummy respectively.
They should've done the same in other countries instead of just putting Lee Cronin's name on it. His name is not recognizable enough for audiences to understand what they are getting into.
1
Comic_Book_ReaderApr 1, 2026

I think that's why they added Lee Cronin's name to the title. That and presumably legal reasons as Universal owns the whole The Mummy IP.

I heard this like a month ago also, concerned tbh that it will be just an average horror.
Which tbf is worse than being a bad horror, nothing worse than a horror movie that is middle of the road, at least if it’s bad it can be funny

It's the first one, but there's a twist. He can't claim ownership because he didn't keep the receipt and that gets him in all sorts of trouble.

I think the majority of people would look at the movie poster and logo and think this was related to the Brendan Frasier The Mummy series. Especially since they chose to make Lee Cronin's name so small and faint.
