Goddamn, this one hit hard for me. In late 2012/early 2013 I had two interactions with DJ Dan, both very positive. In the fall of 2012, I got to do a 4 hour "I'm an only child and don't play well with others" downtempo set downstairs at the legendary afterhours club RISE in Boston while DJ Dan healined upstairs. I missed all of of his set because I was on the decks myself, but I did to see ever partygoer who had been upstairs pass me on the way out. They all seemed thrilled.
A few months later, I helped run an event local to me DJ Dan headlined. That show was off the meat rack. I saw a bunch of (frankly, narrow-minded) dnb and dubstep kids as well as a bunch of the club's regulars (it was a huge gay nightclub that had a large late boomer/early Gen X clientele) get *down* to DJ Dan's signature house sound.
I only spoke to DJ Dan briefly, because I had a job (or more to the point, like 20 jobs) to do. He seemed like a very chill, down to earth guy, especially for someone as famous as he was. 57 is crazy young to pass. Godspeed Dan, That Zipper Track is playing in the great beyond right now.

Sad to hear. Been a shitty day for me and this is the shitty cherry on top. DJ Dan, Ron D. Core, Oscar Da Grouch, R.A.W., Fester et al. What? IYWTYK LA '92

Dan was a friend of a friend, and I was blessed enough to be able to hang out with them both over a weekend while he played sets in the south.
Amazing guy. Warm and welcoming, just immaculate vibes from start to finish. Very sad to see this.

As a fellow friend of a friend of his, big hugs to you. I've had the honor of hanging out with him at our mutual friends' place in the Midwest both in 2024 and 2025. I had been a fan since 2000, so getting the honor to hang with him a bit was a genuine dream come true. So kind and so humble. Memories I will cherish forever.
Heavy heart for all of those who loved him today. The world lost a real one.
