While everyone in the comments is likely going to point out the hypocrisy in a celebrity calling for climate related action while cruising in a yacht, you should still absolutely do this. It's still a good thing to do. Pretend your mom asked you instead.

While I do agree with what you’re saying, this is getting a vote today. The call to your rep should have been over the last several weeks. This is performative.
26
agingcausescancer 2 days ago +112
Leo has been advocating for endangered species for longer than some people on Listnook have been alive. And the house today has delayed the vote.

He should ask his rich boyfriend, bezos, for some money to pay the right people off. These rich fucks pay to have everything else their way.
-21
Plane_Massive 2 days ago +18
Yeah! F*** the rich! I’ll make the endangered species pay for what they’ve done! That’ll show them!
18
MOSbangtan 2 days ago +65
It’s not performative. He’s literally been an advocate for decades. Christ.

The endangered species act is in the way now? There is no end to the greed of these f****** dragons.

Leo himself would benefit. Prices would come down for gas for his yacht and other things he has
5
Flamingogo117 2 days ago -3
So basically we would all benefit
-3
noguarantee1234 2 days ago +13
Yeah, sure, for a little while. Then we kill off more species and continue to collapse the global ecosystem.
13
Flamingogo117 2 days ago -2
Sarcasm isn't your thing I guess
-2
noguarantee1234 2 days ago +3
Apparently irony is yours.

True. But then hed talk about Climate Change and want the regular citizens to change their ways while he doesnt lol
-1
Most_Tangelo 2 days ago +9
Also while the environmental impact of yachts and private jets aren't great. Especially compared to the average person. Even individual celebrity environment impact is negligible to the scale of corporations. Like just because he's not a perfect advocate doesn't make it a message not worth advocating. You can both criticize him for his bullshit and agree with him for things that aren't bullshit.

The ones Leo will still be buddy, buddy with after all this.
1

I’ve already reached out to my representatives, Leo. How about you ask your buddy Bezos to stop paying off the politicians so we can actually save the Endangered Species Act.

It’s already been pulled from the floor - as it had opposition in its own party. Adding in - stay vigilant! This is the third attack on the ESA in the last year.

We’ve got like 99 existential threats going on at all times 😓
5

That’s how conservatives work to make life as hard as possible so they can f*** you over as hard and irreversibly as their little venomous hearts can.
2
Complex_Peak8204 2 days ago +5
A lot of people complaining want the message coming from a hippy living in the woods with zero tech. Which is f****** idiotic. He is right about this while being a tool.
5
Sudden-Volume-5711 2 days ago +5
The billionaire hypocrisy is a tired distraction—yeah, we know the system is rigged, but that doesn’t mean we should just let them torch the ESA while arguing about yachts. Call your reps anyway, because if the only “victory” these assholes get is making us too cynical to act, they’ve already won.
5
greysweater72 2 days ago +3
I hope he’ll ask folks to call reps about the gutting of the Forest Service as well
3
whisky_woman23 2 days ago +10
He has the money, throw money at it. But still call your reps.
10
RealWord5734 2 days ago +22
He throws tons of money at this issue, but he can't throw votes.

The source of this isn’t great, but the message is still true
5
Embarrassed_Radio596 2 days ago +2
This is where I put a foot down and say the law doesn't matter except for deciding who stops you. If you're hurting an endangered species, and the government won't stop you, I will. So will others. And it's going to be a lot less pleasant for you than if the government did it.
2
braxin23 1 day ago +2
Oh but then you’re an “eco terrorist” when it’s the companies literally tearing up the land who terrorize and placate everyone into submission.
2
Embarrassed_Radio596 1 day ago +2
Unfortunately true.
2
braxin23 1 day ago +2
Amen to that.

Dudes an eco hypocrite.

mymemesnow 2 days ago +2
The vast majority of rich/famous people do equally bad things *and* doesn’t use their reach to urge people to do something. I personally think it’s marginally better and should be encouraged.
2
OnTheFenceGuy 3 days ago +3
But that doesn’t have anything to do, directly, with repealing the endangered species act. Yes, he’s a hypocrite. But he also happens to be right on this specific topic. And, if someone as famous as him is what it takes to get the message across, I’m all for it.
3
OldSandwich9631 3 days ago +2
It’s not even his yacht and by the way, his foundation is going to team up with theirs to save endangered species. The New York Times reported that during their recent profile of Lauren Sanchez. He’s been friends with Lauren Sanchez since he was 19 or 20 apparently. Not sure why everyone assumes the connection to this couple is through Jeff
2
Practical-Sleep4259 3 days ago +2
It's almost like "fighting to save an endangered species" is a great cover for "destroying the planet with a lavish lifestyle". "Why does it matter if he clearly doesn't care at all", because it stops being activism and turns into self interests.
2
OldSandwich9631 3 days ago +8
He has done a ton of work over the years to save endangered species. The facts are facts
8
Practical-Sleep4259 3 days ago -2
He pollutes the ocean daily in magnitudes far beyond typical human capability, remorselessly. If I am burning down one side of a rainforest I don't get credit for the small piece I publicly announce I am saving on a different side. If fact it would just be very obvious what I am doing which it is.

>Dudes an eco hypocrite. And you're not doing anything about it which makes a bigger hypocrite

theyre doing more by not burning burns close to 24,000 liters of fuel a day

As of they had the option to do that and chose not to do it. Be f****** real
-3

Hypocrisy from the real damage private yachts do to the environment passing the buck to average people. When he has more money than the average person to make more of a difference.
2
blindreefer 3 days ago +11
He’s using his fame to ask people to make a phone call. Not donate money.
11
thirdLeg51 3 days ago +2
1) what does anything you just said have to do with the endangered species act? 2)One person on a yacht is not going to do anything. He does have more money which is why he fights for the environment. What will do more good, trying to get laws passed or being on a smaller boat?
2
GreatGojira 3 days ago +3
His net worth is $300 million at least. He can do a lot more than my $45,000.
3

And he’s trying
2

I'm saying he has more of a chance to make to difference than the average nobody.

When he makes movies with a strong CC message or speaks in front of the UN, that’s average to you?
3
jerem1734 3 days ago +2
Leo's done more damage to the environment with his jets and yachts than a normal person would do in multiple lifetimes lol
2
GravelRoadJunkie 3 days ago -4
In the end the true danger to endangered species is damage to the planet, Leo cruising around in Yachts and Private Jets does far more damage, he’s a hypocrite.
-4
thirdLeg51 3 days ago +5
No. Whatever a company does is a way worse than any one person can do. Removing regulations and laws just makes it easier. You want to vilify him when he is doing the work to make the world better.
5
iamtheCarlos 2 days ago +4
Surprised Leo cares about this act, it’s way over 25 years old.
4

Endangered species… unless they are over 25 years old. Then he doesn’t care
1

Go look up his foundation re:wild. He legitimately funds the upkeep of endangered species all over the world and has for years. I’m pretty sure there was one species he single handed funded for a while. I’m honestly fed up of people talking out of their asses online.

NotAnotherBlingBlop 3 days ago -15
He also flew on a private jet to Jeff Bezo's wedding, one of the worst polluters in the world.
-15
OldSandwich9631 3 days ago +2
How do you actually know that? You are just assuming that. He likely did charter a plane or fly in with someone else. But he doesn’t actually have his own jet
2
NotAnotherBlingBlop 3 days ago -11
I think you're missing the point. He could've walked there, doesn't change that he rubs shoulders with one of the world's worst polluters.
