It'd be a hard task to pull off the unintended cringe, yet heartfelt vibe. The first game was just lightning in a bottle.

I’m very curious on how they handle Chloe. I only know people who absolutely LOVE her or who can’t stand her at all.
She’s a good character but multiple times throughout the game I was just absolutely done with her shit

Fanatics and nuance don't mix well. You can't be intense about subtleties, everything has to be reduced to a primary colour

People wouldn't be happy, but you'd probably have to play it safe and focus on Max as much as possible. Start the series with a Chloe episode then each episode focuses on Max interacting with a different classmate. Bring it back Chloe around episode four with the alternate timeline, five Max introspection episode, six the twist, then seven and eight action finale

I think it’ll be possible to capture that in earnest but they will have to commit to making a possibly offputting show hah. I’m not sure it will feel quite as effortless though—part of that charm in the game came from budget restraints and lacking animation

You have to commit to the dialogue and in-universe speak, 100%, or it falls apart. You feel it when watching Juno or any Aaron Sorkin project - people simply don't talk like that, but if you keep the audience in it the entire time and stay consistent, it works

They also have to commit to making it a period piece if they want the slang and meme culture to really translate. The game is set in the era of rage comics, Just Girly Things and epic bacon waffle narwhals. It turns millennial cringe into an art form. People in 2013 may not have talked exactly like they do in the game, but we did say cringe shit and I feel like that time isn’t quite far enough behind us yet to be portrayed as a nostalgic time capsule on mainstream tv. I can see it being updated to modern day, which would be a very different vibe.

Might be easier than you think. Chloe and Max were millennials. This show is likely gonna be brought to the 2020s so Chloe and Max will now be Gen Z or Gen Alpha. Yeah, maybe they won't Go Ape caring about old movies, but they will share Brianrot memes.

HELL YES! Karyn Kusama is such an under-appreciated director.

Aeon Flux really fucked her career. Charlize Theron only didn’t get dragged down with her because she saw the writing on the wall once shooting was done and immediately signed on to Arrested Development.

Does the audience get to decide the fate of the town at the season finale?

Let's be honest, Bay is the emotional gut wrench ending and the ending the team leaned in to being the 'canonical' ending (even if they won't say so out loud).
They are almost certainly going to use that ending. Maybe make an ambiguous nod to a split timeline.

Does that happen a lot finding leads for a role (Max and Chloe for example) before the director?

For a TV Show, Executive Producer is usually the more key position, that’s usually what the Show Runner is credited as (in this case Charlie Covell). So it’s more common to hear about casting choices before director choices with TV.

The director of the first eps often set the visual style for the show. It's why shows sometimes get big Hollywood directors for the pilot. They often get no say over casting, writing, etc

Tv show directors are basically closer to cinematographers who give directions. A movie style director is a tv show runner.

They definitely need to work heavily on the dialogue, the general story is good, the vibe and music is incredible but the dialogue, my god.
It gave heavy "people in there 30s and 40s trying to write realistic teens" vibes, it didn't work whatsoever.

The dialogue and millennial cringe is precisely what makes the game special. If you play games like Deadly Premonition that are also Twin Peaks-inspired, there's just an unexplainable vibe to everything that SHOULDN'T work, but it does
