God damn it pick a Lane grandpa. Are you trying to rule the world way past your cognitive years? Or are you trying to spend your Twilight years retired and taking RV trips and going to disneyland? It's so stupid it's like all of these leaders are so old and they all just want to chill and do retired persons shit. But instead it's for some reason they're clamoring on to power that I don't even feel like they really even want anymore.

Yeah, there is some deep psychological problem with the human race that we haven't cracked.
It has something to do with only the most damaged, least qualified, most morally bankrupt people being able to win elections.

Brotorious420Mar 31, 2026

There's a certain type of person that seeks power. They are exactly the type that shouldn't have it. However, those good individuals that would make excellent leaders are mostly focused on their locality, family, or selves. Maybe they get a taste of local power and it corrupts until they seek higher office.
Another gap is in funding. In order to campaign, you must either be independently wealthy or have some well-funded supporters. Not everyone can take 6+ months off work to campaign, unless daddy owns the company or their trust funds are stacked. Until the system itself is reformed, these are the candidates we will get. Good one still manage to somehow sneak through, but they are too far and few between to affect real change.

It's not secret it's just so unpalatable to civility politics that people don't want to talk about it. Similar to how Hillary called a bunch of kkk nazi wannabe racists "deplorable" and somehow she was wrong for that.
I think you are ready for this book but it will change how you see people:
https://theauthoritarians.org/
From Canadian psychologist Bob Altemeyer. Basically there's a pattern in human society where a solid chunk of people (almost always a minority by population) are just straight up bad people who want to hurt others. That can be weaponized by social climbers who would been the world down just to be king of the ashes or whatever the quote is.

The problem is capitalism. It's not that complicated.
The system awards corruption with power.
7
hyper-objectMar 31, 2026

Yes, but why does the system reward corruption with power?
It also happens in communist countries, so "capitalism" doesn't explain it.
1
imsorrydad420Mar 31, 2026
+6
Because those with sufficient resources to exploit any system will. As long as there are those with the resources to do that, this will continue. This is why we need either no concentrated accumulation of resources by private entities or a system that cannot be exploited. I don't think the latter is possible, but the former is.
6
hyper-objectMar 31, 2026

I agree that private accumulation of resources is a problem, but isn't the alternative a public accumulation of resources? And wouldn't a public accumulation of resources need to be governed by a system that cannot be exploited, which you say is impossible to create?

Nothing like flaming Rudolf Hess prancing around at Disney World with his bubble wand. I want TMZ to show who would hook up with this cum dumpster, pedophile protector.

Why? Do we think he won’t be reelected or something? GOP officials don’t suffer consequences, they get promoted.

I absolutely promise you that in the grand scheme of what this administration is focusing "damage control capital" on, Lindsey Graham at Disney is low on the priority. It's also not going to make any voters jump ship from his caucus. Nobody who isn't perpetually online knows about this, and I doubt very many of those care enough for this to be a "desperate" issue in the first place.

Who cares?
It's Disneyland. I bet he bought a stuffed animal too.
Hate Lindsay Graham for his policies and vile actions not a bubble wand.

The point is he is jet setting during multiple crises. Now if it was a family vacation, he would be slightly less scrutinized. It’s not a good look for politicians going out and having fun while many are suffering, primarily because of the antics of said politicians.

I mean Lindsay Graham is a piece of shit and monster but what does that have to do with the misogyny in saying a guy can't carry a bubble wand?

I don't like this genre of news story because most of the time the claims seem untrue (like, the person in question isn't actually humiliated, desperate, or flipping out), and because even when one of these stories is true, it's not really relevant to anything.
