Looking for those dreamy movies

Posted by oZuzka

I'm looking for recommendations for movies that have that dreamy vibe. I'm not sure how to describe what I mean, so I will just list the kind of movies I have in mind. Anything close to: Chungking Express, All about Lily Chou-Chou, Blue Velvet, Blue Spring, Mulholland drive, Night on Earth, Requiem for a dream, Drive, Lost in translation? What I specifically like about these is that lonely feeling, this immaculate cinematography and delightful music. Those movies which appear boring to the nonsensitive. If you watched any of the listed, I think you get the idea. Please feel free to say a little more about the movies you suggest. I'll happily watch them all!

You should check out In the Mood for Love if you haven't already. Wong Kar-wai pretty much invented that dreamy lonely vibe you're talking about.

I’d recommend Memories of Murder, and Cure Both are detective thrillers that evoke this hypnotic trance like feeling

“The Tree of Life” (2011) directed by Terrence Malick. The less you know about it going in, the better. Totally dreamy and moving. Enjoy!

Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind La La Land Annihilation The Love Witch Also, check out the rest of David Lynch’s, Sofia Coppola’s and Winding Refn’s filmography if you haven’t seen them all.

One of the most underrated movies I’ve ever seen is called the Wackness. Has some of the dreamy vibe you are looking for but also a coming of age tale with a great 90’s hip hop soundtrack

if you're into that dreamy, ethereal vibe, try “A Ghost Story” for its haunting visuals and slow narrative. also, “The Fountain” has some stunning cinematography and a deep, lingering feeling that hits hard. hope you enjoy!

Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind. It's got that lonely, dreamy feel you're describing and the soundtrack is perfect. You'll love it if you loved Lost in Translation.

Fairly recent, there's the impressive **I Saw The TV Glow**. Its use of a Magical Realist Film Language, which has as one of its aspects what is often called an evocation of Dream Language, is very much like a David Lynch film.

Haven't seen Synechdoche New York or Dream Scenario mentioned. Pretty much anything from Yorgos Lanthimos fits the bill.

Melancholia, most dream state movie I can think of. Very moving, very surreal.

I love this subgenre! A few I'd suggest that may fit the bill, or may be slightly off the mark: Drive My Car Cure (horror) Pulse (horror, the JP one, not the US remake) Strawberry Mansion Minari Beasts of the Southern Wild A Ghost Story Synecdoche, New York I Saw the TV Glow (kinda horror) Perfect Days and most recently, Train Dreams

I would recommend: Dead Man (Jim Jarmusch since you liked Night on Earth) Happy Together (Wong Kar Wai) Holy Mountain (although that is very strange) Lost Highway (Lynch) The Quiet Earth (Science fiction from New Zealand) The Saddest Music in the World (Guy Maddin with a wild performance from Isabella Rosellini) Slaughterhouse Five (based on the Kurt Vonnegut novel) Universal Language (odd Canadian film from a couple years ago) Vampyr (1932 - Carl Theodor Dreyer) Walkabout (Nicholas Roeg)
