Michael, Sawyer, Jin and Walt took off with the raft with in the s1 finale, but the Others attacked them. They returned to the island and came across the tailsection survivors - which included Rose's husband Bernard. After a long track both groups finally reunited again.

I liked what they ended up doing with the Others, but it's pretty obvious their idea of what the Others were before Season 3 didn't match what they ended up being.
Both "We're gonna have to take the boy" and [the scene in the woods](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e9ldNOB-4-U) where the barefoot Others walk silently by Mr. Eko and Jin don't match the vibe of what the Others eventually became at all. Particularly the latter.

Man I hated that after this reunion with Jin and Sun that they end up spending multiple seasons apart from eachother again, only to be reunited for like 10 seconds in the last episode
20
smashtheguitar4 days ago
+8
They are still together a lot in seasons 2 and 3, but their characters are a little unfocused. The writers kept wanting to go back to Jin being domineering and learning his lesson again, while they kept trying to push some sort of romantic entanglement between Sun and Michael.
Overall, you can tell the writers loved the easy emotional high of reunions (hence the finale) and they did it exceedingly often.

One of my favorite things about Rose and Bernard is that you find out in their flashback episode that they really hadn’t known each other for very long, much less been married for very long, but they seem like and truly are soulmates

This scene captures why Rose and Bernard weren't involved in a lot of the chaos like the rest of the castaways. They built their own circle of what mattered most to them, each other, so their time after the island is wildly different than all of the broken characters that pile into the church in the finale.

The day after each episode, my work friends and I would sit around the office and compare notes. What do character names, those numbers, etc., all mean? Lostpedia would grow as more fans would try to fit all of the new information/red herrings into their theories, and then guess about where it was all going.

It was GOT until they shat the bed. The show could have been a staple in the history of television. We used to do watch parties in the dorms in college here in Spain at 3-4-5 am whenever the episodes would come out because you knew if you didn’t watch people would and they would be talking about it all day in class next day.
Then the last season came out and even though we kept doing those, we felt we were being robbed of a great end of the series since the episodes didn’t make any f****** sense. I was so mad when Jamie died the way he did and the Daenerys flip although expected given the progression of the last season it was so rushed that it felt like a mockery.
I still don’t know how they managed to fucked it up that badly.

They paid too much attention to the fan sublistnook.
I feel like a modern TV writing course should have a module on “Do Not Care about Fan Speculation”.
It’s impossible to truly trick devoted fans who will treat your puzzle as though it’s their job and way for their kids to respect them again.
Sherlock tried to cheekily address this with a meh episode on how Sherlock survived his finale, but it was only half satisfactory at best. They were better off avoiding the meta and just moving forward with the best twist
2
hokie_u24 days ago
+2
Yes S1 of Westworld was both a sci-fi character drama and a mystery box with twists and red herrings. Listnook solved one of the big twists in S1 so they made the next season more convoluted and it fell off hard after that.

From a stoy/plot perspective, sure. But from a cultural aspect, not even close. I don't think anything will ever replicate that again, because media consumption is so fragmented now. These shared cultural moments which were near-universal are a thing of the past. The closest we got to it was Game of Thrones, and nothing since.

“Parting Words” is a masterpiece. It builds and builds the tension but you never quite get to the release you want from it. It’s like the whole season. Building and building then at the very last moment, it finally hits the crescendo and it’s such a wonderful, beautiful moment of film. And then immediately bottoms out.

It's good stuff, lots of great characters and emotional moments. The acting is great too. Its main flaws are quite a bit of filler and several mystery reveals end up being underwhelming. (people will say that nothing is explained and the finale is disappointing/makes no sense; I disagree on both counts).
The highs are *incredibly* high. The lows are meh. Sometimes it feels like it meanders too much and sets up stuff that later turns out to be nothing. Watching it on a weekly basis in the 00s was an experience, and the writers took a lot of liberties with that credit they had from viewers.
It has a bit of that soap opera-ish feel with character relationships developing over time and will they/won't they sub-storylines that are well integrated into the main plot.
22+ episode seasons used to be the norm, it'd be tight as f*** as a 6-season 12-13 episode series these days. No wonder it really picks up starting from the second half of S3 which is around the time when they struck a deal on an end date with a few more shortened seasons (post writers strike) and began to ramp up all the storylines.

It's absolutely worth watching, then take your own conclusions. People will tell you here that either it's all brilliant or that some parts suck or that the ending sucks, wtv. Watch it and see for yourself. It's good entertainment, whether you end up liking it or not.
Personally, I like the show in general but I have issues with the way some things developed. I feel like the direction in the last season was borderline cringy with the spiritual/faith stuff, and for that you're better off with The Leftovers, which is a show from one of the showrunners of Lost.
But hey, like I said, watch it and have your own take on it.

It's pretty good in a bingeable format, smooths out the rough spots and slow parts because you can get into the next episode quickly. I only find it drags by the time they get to the temple in the last season, though of course that's well past the vast majority of the show by that point.

FWIW I completely agree, watched it all when it aired. Lived through all the questions, intrigue, etc.
I think the characters, set, plot lines were awesome! That's why when you get to the end, everything feels contrived; a compelling story with no real meaning (to me).
Of course you get down voted because you didn't wrap yourself into the manifest existential dream; that somehow your supposed to guess at, or knowingly accept, by the final episode. The show never represents its plot authentically, and then you're left feeling robbed of the purpose of any of it. That's how I feel at least. I saw the final episode, and have never or will never watch any of it again.
The same is true of Prometheus; which IS a sci fi, yet people are way more critical of that movie. They both represent the same sort of emptiness of purpose after telling a somewhat compelling story.
-6

> Of course you get down voted because you didn't wrap yourself into the manifest existential dream; that somehow your supposed to guess at, or knowingly accept, by the final episode.
For me, it was moreso that EVERYONE guessed the ending after the pilot, and D&D came out hard to say nonono, thats totally not it
And then it became clear with 3 or 4 episodes to go that no, they had no real idea, and all the children were rescued by...oh......let's say....moe
