I appreciate a country singer delivering this positive message instead of reciting a list of things rednecks like.

Yeah, that is a genre that far too often is on the side of intolerance and hatred. Just look at that song that went around a couple years ago about essentially celebrating the fact that in a small town you get bullied out of being anything that's not entirely conforming.

The unfortunate part is these "kids" sing about partying while listening to Johnny, Merel, Willie and Waylon yet it's clear they don't listen to the lyrics. Bootleggin', not Bootlickin'

Its so sad as a country lover too. It was a genre about being wild and free and against the government while still loving your country and countrymen. But nowadays a lot of it has tailored to the racist and bigoted side of the country and good country is hard to find. Like obviously the racist kind of country has always existed (David Allen coe has a few) but otherwise yeah

BeefInGR Mar 19, 2026 +3
Even David Allen Coe has realized that he was wrong to have hate in his heart. Granted, he still says plenty of fucked up shit... but if he can change, there's no excuse for Southern Pop not to.

SsjDragonKakarotto Mar 19, 2026 +3
Oh agreed. I did forget about his change of heart. Still I agree the themes of modern country (more country pop like you said) are frankly unacceptable in modern society and a disservice to the forefathers of the genre

h_to_tha_o_v Mar 19, 2026 +1
Wasn't Coe's X-rated album just misunderstood "Shock humor" anyhow?

G-Unit11111 Mar 18, 2026 +19
Or when Morgan Wallen got elevated on social media after his Saturday Night Live appearance got canceled because he was caught on tape saying some horribly racist stuff.
19
Sic_Semper_Dumbasses Mar 18, 2026 +16
Actually, it got canceled because he was not following covid procedures. Then later on he got allowed to come on the show, and then right after that was the shit with him saying horribly racist stuff.
16
G-Unit11111 Mar 18, 2026 +4
Oh yeah, I totally forgot about the COVID one.
4
WorriedString7221 Mar 18, 2026 +4
And then even after the racist stuff, they invited him back a second time later, he walked offstage during goodnights, and was generally a d*****.

I just remembered I haven't listened to Orville Peck in a long enough time. Pony showed me I have space in my taste for alt-country music

Princessformidable Mar 18, 2026 +41
Just want to say that people joke around that country music written by men and written by women are different genres and it's pretty true.

Reading_Rainboner Mar 18, 2026 +1
What’s it matter when every country song has 8 different writers?
1
ButtBread98 Mar 18, 2026 +61
Kacey Musgraves has *Follow Your Arrow* about being who you are, including being queer or LGBT.

thelaineybelle Mar 18, 2026 +17
I actually have the lyric "Just cuz you can't beat em don't mean you should join em" drunkenly painted on a wall in my garage. And I still stand by that ethos. Love your kids unconditionally.

SharpPink_GlitterInk Mar 18, 2026 +11
I see you fellow Bo Burnham listener.

depresssionista Mar 18, 2026 +14
Rural noun, simple adjective.

plaidkingaerys Mar 18, 2026 +4
Y’all dumb motherfuckers want a key change?

The_Mellow_Tiger Mar 18, 2026 +5
Cold night, cold beer, cold jeans...
5
G-Unit11111 Mar 18, 2026 +6
Yeah, Luke Combs seems like he's one of the good ones.
6
DimensionMediocre439 Mar 18, 2026 +5
Have you listened to his repertoire? That's most of his songs.
5
SharpPink_GlitterInk Mar 18, 2026 +11
Yeah but I think ur kinda missing their point about this specific song.
11
Iginlas_4head_Crease Mar 18, 2026 +4
....which makes it a breath of fresh air.

bilyl Mar 20, 2026 +1
There are plenty of country singers that don’t pander to rednecks. The problem is that very few of them get popular success.
1
South_Start6630 Mar 18, 2026 +37
From his last albums, he seems to want to be a good dad. A lot of introspection.

Imaginary_Agent2564 Mar 18, 2026 +130
Luke Combs always given me the vibe that he’s extremely humble and also that he’d be a great hugger.

slimmschadi Mar 18, 2026 +59
Know him personally. Humble isn’t the word I’d use but he is a decent guy. Good hugger too.

SharMarali Mar 18, 2026 +11
Not a country fan, so all of my exposure to him comes from American Idol. He comes across as a pretty down to earth guy there, but obviously he has incentive to curate that persona for that show. Still, he probably wouldn’t choose to stay on Idol at all if he was deeply bigoted.

regina_phalange13 Mar 18, 2026 +26
That’s Luke Bryan, this is about Luke combs. Much better artist.
26
SharMarali Mar 18, 2026 +8
Oh geez, what a rookie mistake! I’ve heard of both of them but I’m not sure I registered they were two different people until this comment. Welp, I’m a dumbass.

WintersDoomsday Mar 18, 2026 +65
Oh boy now he's going to be accused of "going woke"....because having decency is apparently a bad thing with a certain group of people in society.
65
BeefInGR Mar 18, 2026 +14
That part came and left. Country radio told the whiners to shut up and they did as they were told.
14
Suitable-Broccoli264 Mar 18, 2026 +1
Yeah here comes right-wingers cancelling people.
1
Individual-Dust-7362 Mar 19, 2026
Do you even listen to country? It’s not the early 2000s anymore.

My husband and I farm and live extremely rural. We hunt, fish, listen to bluegrass and don't align at all with the "city life" for lack of a better term. Our oldest son, wants nothing to do with our lifestyle and we never forced it on him. We weren't the farmers making him butcher our hogs or even go hunting at all. He's so intelligent, kind, innovative and hilarious. He's bound for a different life than we live and we support him completely. He's going to do great things, even if they aren't down a dirt road. Now our youngest, he's speed running behind his daddy and that's great too.

SharpPink_GlitterInk Mar 18, 2026 +13
Thats nice I really enjoyed his song he made for Twisters… then again I think I just like Twisters… then again I might just like Glen Powel

Ain't No Love in Oklahoma has been been practically at the top of my "On Repeat" playlist on Spotify for months. It's such a good song. As someone whose always loved Rock, Blues and Country, it's a great mix of all three. However, I also have a panic-attack inducing phobia of tornados so I have to be so careful not to look at the cover art...

Luke combs: outlaw country for today!

Secure_Course_3879 Mar 18, 2026 +18
Good on ya Luke. This is great.

Baxter_Baron Mar 18, 2026 +23
Ugly crying to a country song was not on my list of things to do today

BeefInGR Mar 18, 2026 +10
Ooooh! Oooooh! Do "He Didn't Have To Be" by Brad Paisley next.

darknessbemerciful Mar 18, 2026 +9
You could’ve saved some time and just rubbed the chopped onions directly into my eyes instead of having me chop them myself
9
BeefInGR Mar 18, 2026 +4
My bad, homie. I'll give you a dust warning if you choose to listen to "Believe" by Brooks & Dunn.
4
Nuttonbutton Mar 18, 2026 +4
You wanna listen to Whiskey Lullaby next?
4
darknessbemerciful Mar 19, 2026 +2
The depths of my country sadness usually bottom out with Collin Raye’s Heart Full of Rain, and baby, I’m ready to DIVE
2
darknessbemerciful Mar 19, 2026 +1
Are my tears a joke to you? Keep it coming, satan, the water works are open late

molleensmrs Mar 18, 2026 +4
It’s stupid for any artist to alienate their potential fans. Luke and Maren know what’s kind and business savvy. Jason Aldean for example is a d***.
4
Individual-Dust-7362 Mar 19, 2026 +3
Comments section indicates most people haven’t listened to country the last 10 years. Lots of new voices and songs that are more than what “sun darts” parodied.
3
Luna_Soma Mar 18, 2026 +3
He’s a country singer I will always support
3
Ok-Communication3663 Mar 18, 2026 +3
Can we please please please have this country music star do next years Super Bowl????
3
bigdog767 Mar 18, 2026 +8
They’d be smart if he’s the choice if they do country. He appeals to people outside of country which is what he wants. He’s said he wants to be for everyone.

Ok-Communication3663 Mar 18, 2026 +2
Just what we need to bring everyone together!!! AND HIS LIVE PERFORMANCES ARE AMAZING!!!!
2
diferentigual Mar 19, 2026 +2
Maga is going to lose their minds
2
jmucapsfan07 Mar 18, 2026
He’s just alienating a different group but will be on the right side of history imho.
0
Individual-Dust-7362 Mar 19, 2026 +3
I think you underestimate the people that like country. Just because someone may listen to it, or live in a rural area, doesn’t mean they’re a narrow minded bigot.
3
jmucapsfan07 Mar 19, 2026 +1
I certainly didn’t say all country fans. I happen to enjoy it myself so I know firsthand. However, there is certainly a decent number of country fans that fit that description.
1
LeftyMcliberal Mar 19, 2026 -2
What does that mean? Resonates? He hopes his music sells well? Cuz… and I don’t speak for all of us, I’m pretty okay with all my kids and their levels of different… don’t really need any “beer, beer, beer, dirt, jeans, truck” bullshiz.
