There is more play than you are thinking, in that not every action is considered an attack. Just like how russia has done many things that many listnookors thought would qualify as an attack but didn't. As far as i know there is no clearly defined definition within nato as to what an attack is. So one of these countries could do something to the other that nato doesn't consider an attack which could cause bog problems for nato.

given that the most likely aggressor would be turkey, at leas all the European nato allies will side with Greece.
Not just by claiming to honor the article 5, but also because turkey has spent 20+ years being antagonistic against the EU and European nations, they have burnt any and all bridges with potential supporters that would argue to side with them in a war against Greece. There is a very good reason they are called a Mediterranean version of ruzzia.

Nobody. They fought over Cyprus in the 70s, thousands of dead on both sides, NATO did not get involved. Even though the political consequences were severe since Turkey won that war, occupied northern Cyprus and the Greek government collapsed. It seems things would have to _really_ escalate for NATO to do anything.

Nope, it didn't. nothing new… Greece (coincidentally, after its meeting with Israel :) reiterated that it could extend its maritime borders again (Turkey had said years ago that they could resolve this through the median line since the Aegean Sea is a closed sea, otherwise if it extends to 12 miles, they would consider it a cause for war because if it goes from 6 miles to 12 miles, Turkey gets squeezed, but of course this isn't presented that way by Europe). Anyway, as always, the West creates the news first, then designates the target, typical perception operation. Turkey, of course, is in the position of scapegoat due to being the successor state. In other words, the West presents "the violation of airspace by Turkish warplanes following Greece's militarization of the islands contrary to the agreement" to the media as "the Turks violated Greece’s airspace," but ofc there is no details and France comes out and says they support it. It's been like this for years. :) Some fool will also come under this comment and say the exact opposite but won't be able to prove it.
When the world shifts away from the Western axis, ( already its ) when their fuel runs out, you'll see what kind of wars they'll start. ( they already started plenty of it)
This is civilization!
And years later, in digital history books, there will be discussions about how hypocritical Western civilizations were and how Eastern civilizations were exploited lol
This is future !
To be continued

"We all know Greece wouldn’t start sht in the first place so Turkey would be the aggressor."
Such a naive and shallow take. Geopolitics don't work that way.
This is all about Israel's expansion. Cyprus flooding with Israeli's. Greece fully supporting Israel even though their people hate it and protest it very openly. Israel has been saying Turkey is next.
Turkey would say Greece bad and there would thousands of headlines and sanctions in a minute. There is not a single scenario Turkey benefits from and conflict with Israel or Greece.

If we've learned anything in the past 20 years in geopolitics it's that the west will always spin their narrative to appease the stronger party (primarily the party that's alligned with the US).

Lets see. Side with a fellow EU and Nato member that are on good terms with and more often than not working well with other EU members, and shows no signs or expresses official threats of war and occupation against the other party, as well as it being in the EU's best interest to come to their defense of a member state.
Or the semi dictatorship that antagonizes, produces hostile propaganda against the EU as a whole and specific member-states, shelters criminals and terrorists, and uses the EU as a scapegoat for everything wrong inside their regime, as well as constant threats of war and occupation against the state thats part of the EU. Hmmm, such a hard choice.
turkey would loose any and all value to the EU and the EU states part of Nato the moment it attacks a EU member state, and while it has a large military on its own, its dwarfed by the EU's/EU nato members combined capacity as a whole.

> Macron, when asked what stance his country would take if Greece were threatened by Turkey, was clear:
> "If Turkey threatened Greece, we would be here. We would be present. Look at what we did that difficult summer, look at our stance in Cyprus. For me, this is the true definition of friendship. This is exactly what the Greek-French alliance expresses. Alliance and friendship are not complex concepts; they are something very simple: when the critical moment comes, you don't wonder what you will do the next day. You already know what you have to do. If sovereignty is threatened, know that we will be here," President Macron emphasized categorically.
13
SOHONEYSAMEApr 25, 2026

"that summer" refers to 2020.
France deployed 2 war-ships that joined the Greek ones facing the Turk ships that had entered Greek territorial waters, leading to a standstill.
Erdogan backed down, & a year later Greece & France signed a "landmark" mutual defence deal, that is now set to be renewed.

Bro this is beyond stupid and shows Europeans knows f*** all about Turkey - struggles of us or Erdogans motivations.
Erdogan don't give a single f about Europe. He doesn't have Putin like inspirations. Even though he likes Ottomans -- he is not the continuation of Ottoman dream of conquering the Europe
1) He wants to be respected - be rich - seen as the top dog.
2) Especially in Islam World. He would rather seize land of all Muslim countries and be the one true leader of Muslims than conquer all of Europe.
Everytime he "picks a fight" with Greece or Israel it is just for show to get the support of his supporters. It is funny how he is insulting Israel for like 20+ years while being their biggest trade partner in the region.

Tales_from_VeterneApr 25, 2026

Or maybe it's just to show support for a member state? You know, Greece treats this very seriously, and there are declassified Turkish documents talking about an invasion in the early 2010s tht was deriled because France put troops in the region.
16
ChessliciousApr 25, 2026
+8
Downvote all you want but as someone from Turkey who hates Erdogan I can say you guys are utterly clueless
Erdogan has 150000 things in his mind to worry about before it comes to Greece.
The only time Greece and Israel ever becomes a talking point or issue is when
1)He is losing his base nationalist supporters -- Shittalk Greece
2)He is losing his base hard-islam supporters --- Shittalk Israel
He has to worry about financing all his "partisans" + somehow save the shitty financial situation we are in without losing supporters + cover up all his shady acts daily
He has lost a major source of income losing the local elections in Istanbul and Ankara which he always won until very recently.
Turkey is not in a financial position to start a new war without the backing of Europe +US without Erdogan losing his power. Erdogan is not stupid to start a war and have its financial effects trickle down.
8
Tales_from_VeterneApr 25, 2026
+3
Sure. Occupying islands wouldn't really be a war though, now would it? Park some hardware and men there and put eeryone before a done deal, just like Putin envisioned Ukraine falling instantly and everyone just accepting it, because "what else do we realistically do?". France prevented basically that from happening. And even if what you say is true and Erdogan is the first dictator in history who wouldn't try distracting from domestic issues via a foreign war, it still gets a massive amount of good will in Greece. Because it's not like Greece is going to attack first - they're not the military dictatorship they were when the Cyprus shitshow started/
3
ChessliciousApr 25, 2026
+3
In his 20+ years of rule Erdogan has always distracted from domestic issues by creating more domestic issues.
In general this has been "terrorist" attacks on our country or bombs going on in capital when Erdogan's party didn't get clear majority after first elections.
Turkey is really different than all other countries you know in Europe. Headlines change two times a day and a scandal like Epstein wouldn't last a week in news-cycle yet alone a month due to how many unbeliavable events we have daily.
There are famous voice recordings in which they theorize to attack our own cities and nobody is talking about it anymore. This would be similar to Trump planning to bomb Silicon Valley or "9/11 is an inside job"
Erdogan's style is not to start a foreign war. It is to claim Turkey is under threat and needs unity/consistent and experienced leadership more than ever this time around.
3
Tales_from_VeterneApr 25, 2026
Sure. Excuse us for not believing that a man this volatile will not change his mind eventually. After all, this Greece-France alliance only does anything if Greece is attacked... so won't make a difference for Turkey, right?
0
SOHONEYSAMEApr 25, 2026
+3
right.
so, according to this logic, Erdogan is "better" for Greece/Europe over the alternative?
3
ChessliciousApr 25, 2026
+2
No.
Erdogan is only ''better for Greece'' compared to a ultra nationalist candidate which doesn't realistically stand a chance to win an election in Turkey. They can't even get 10 percent of the votes.
Whoever is the head of Turkey next won't even think of starting a war due to
1)How shitty financial situation is
2)How divided the country is
3)Erdogan destroyed our army to prevent any possible coups from military.
Starting a war is the fastest way to lose long-term support.
The only way Erdogan might remotely think of starting a war is 2028 if it is obvious he is gonna lose the election and somehow wants to cancel the elections. Even then Turkey always resorted to an attack on itself in such occasions rather than its neighbors.
