I am currently hate watching this show. Does anyone else share my intense dislike of 99% of the characters on this one? I just keeping rooting for the worst to happen to them because most of them are just AWFUL people!
I love to watch this show Atleast once a year, so I guess let me be the 1%. I think it’s the best character work put on film. And the most complete cultural pastiche which threads characters through the most divisive era of our country with the best costume and set design I’ve ever seen.
I’d love to know why you hate it so much.

I really enjoy the sets, clothing, and historical events that are included in the storyline! Marilyn is dead and Bay of Pigs just passed. Anticipating the Kennedy assassination. Even though it's acting, they do a great job of grounding you in the era's reactions to these events.

So enlighten me, if you love all those aspects of the show, where does the hate watching come in?

They’re all awful, except one episode in season 6. Especially Betty, she’s like a Roald Dahl villain to her kids.

Mad Men is basically “What if everyone at the office sucked, but stylishly?” One trick: watch it like a nature doc about terrible 60s animals. Suddenly the awfulness feels intentional, not random.

As others have said, they’re all meant to be flawed people.
That said, over the full series, it becomes apparent the real protagonists of the show are the women, rather than the men.
Peggy, Joan, Betty and more are the people who have the most transformative character arcs.

I just saw what Joan's fiancee did to her in Don's office. Crazy that she just shrugs it off and goes on with her night. Life back then was insane for women.

yes, first watch I felt like this. second time was easier to stomach. I wasnt around in the 60s but they really so seem like people from that era.

I felt that way about Succession. I haven't got past episode 3 and I really did want to watch it. But they're so awful. Lol.

They are in advertising so they all have to be vain and somewhat self absorbed. That being said there is character growth as the show goes on, Pete Campbell comes to mind. I hated that pos for a while. Not as much at the end.

I will say that I have seen some growth from him so far. Don is the worst for me. I don't hold out much hope for him thus far.
