As an American I am begging for once in history the Hungarian people make the right decision.
Learn from our idiocy and pick Europe! It would be a massive defeat for Putin if Orban loses.

What do you mean by once in history?

Probably he means that it was a horrible decision that Hungary was defending Europe from invasions from the east in the 13th century, from the south in the 15th and 16th century, and that the revolutions of 1848, 1956, that getting rid of communism in 1989 and joining the Nato in 1999 and EU in 2004 were all horrible decisions.
I'm not even hungarian but still know a bit of history. But what do I know, I'm not American either.

Please. As an American, I’ll take any electoral rejection of authoritarians that I can get right now.

I hope so, truly, but I'm not going to be surprised if Orban magically wins.

It’s worth noting that the opposition is actually very similar to Orban’s party in its stances, i.e. a conservative nationalist party who, afaik, doesn’t intend to stop buying Russian oil or anything of the sort. Still hoping they win though…

Neither does Orban, i think. He (and his friends) want to continue to steal EU funds and he wants the Hungarian economy to profit from the common market. Basically, all of the benefits and none of the obligations.

Of course, Hungary is a net beneficiary of EU largesse. They take from the EU without ever giving back.

Orban and the oligarchs have taken it all, there is nothing left to give back

Reminds me of my former barber. Lives in my province because his son with a disability gets huge government assistance from the provincial government. But hates the people and policies that enable the very thing his family benefits from.

For real kick hungary out of the EU and Schengen zone if they don't change their government. Why let them drag and weigh you down.

Because there is no such mechanism as kicking an EU member state out.

As they should be with Russia and Belarus being as unhinged as they are now, you never know what will happen next.

Yet I imagine if there was a vote the reverse may not apply for obvious reasons.
