If they’re not able to get everyone together for a full season, it’d be great if they did a miniseries every few years. Apparently this one only took a month to film so you’d hope it wouldn’t be too tricky to do again.

It's time for US streaming to enter the British sitcom model: you'll get an episode of your beloved show every decade or so.

*Not hard to see why it's England's longest-running series and today, we're showing all seven episodes.*

I had a friend tell me i should watch the original The Office and I didn’t think I’d be able to commit to something that must have had a 100 episodes. There’s literally 12.

melithium Apr 14, 2026 +74
Wait till you realize how many episodes of Mr Bean there actually are
74
scottishdrunkard Apr 14, 2026 +48
15 over 5 years. Plus two movies.
48
nomorecannibalbirds Apr 14, 2026 +4
What is it with Listnook and this fact? I watched Mr bean a lot as a kid and was well aware there were only a couple of episodes because we saw the same ones over and over again.

nubbins01 Apr 14, 2026 +7
I think that is not including the Christmas special, which aired over a year later in two parts on two different days for some ungodly reason when it first came out.

DrScitt Apr 14, 2026 +145
Good Place Season 1, two characters watching a British show together: “It ran for 16 years on the BBC. They did nearly 30 episodes.”
145
f-ingsteveglansberg Apr 14, 2026 +22
I know it's a joke but it's not that bad. Peep Show has 52 episodes over 12 years and 9 seasons. Only Fools and Horses has 64 episodes over 22 years but when you realize that they took a long break and the later episodes are basically a revival of the show, it makes more sense. There are characters like Alan Partridge and for him they have episodes when they have a new idea. They are basically new shows every time. It would be like lumping Cheers, Fraiser and Fraiser's revival all as one show. Shows like Sherlock were basically mini movies to be shown around Christmas and were never real TV shows. More like Charlie Brown specials.

HankIsMoody Apr 14, 2026 +11
Wow 21 series, I can't wait All 12 episodes were fantastic
11
unitedfan6191 Apr 13, 2026 +12
Is that very common? Like with most British sitcoms? I think I’ve heard there’s shows over there that return every once in a while with Christmas specials or for charity shows for the BBC or other broadcasters. Parks and Rec and a bunch of other shows did one-off reunion specials during covid and Dawson’s Creek (minus JVDB) did one on stage for charity recently, but these were more an exception.

fishmongerhoarder Apr 13, 2026 +21
They release short seasons whenever they feel like it. Think the show is cancelled because no new episodes for a few years and bang another one comes out.
21
EchoesofIllyria Apr 13, 2026 +23
British sitcoms (at least somewhat popular ones) never really get cancelled in the same way American ones might.
23
f-ingsteveglansberg Apr 14, 2026 +4
Usually British shows like Peep Show or Fleabag have one or two writers behind them, not whole writing rooms. Pretty much everything is written by the time they go to shoot. It's not a whole room of people working long hours most to push out 20+ episodes on a deadline.

Ironsam811 Apr 14, 2026 +14
It is absolutely bonkers to me that in the age of streaming when you arent beholden to advertising time or time s**** or anything like that that we are stuck in this stupid 8 episode 40 minute choke hold. Let creatives go wild and do what they want, literally nothing is stopping the streaming services
14
Aggressive_Chuck Apr 14, 2026 +3
They barely have enough content to fill that. There are eight episode seasons with four filler episodes.
3
pkkthetigerr Apr 14, 2026 +5
There is the question of a budget as well...
5
Ironsam811 Apr 14, 2026 +8
Nobody is stopping anyone from doing 16 episodes 15 minutes long or each episode being a different length depending on the story being told
8
MattIsLame Apr 14, 2026 +3
advertising would probably be better at this point because it would give them incentive to produce more episodes and more regularly. but instead they're based on subscriptions which means less episodes and more shows. so they can always have something to "release" instead of focusing on the shows that matter.
3
jemosley1984 Apr 13, 2026 +36
Damn, it only took a month. The chemistry on that set must be on point.
36
Jealous-Try-2554 Apr 13, 2026 +21
Isn't it usually 1 week per episode of television? That seems pretty on par for 4 episodes.
21
geek_of_nature Apr 14, 2026 +11
Especially ones which are only 20-30 minutes long. With a five day work week, thats about 5 minutes of footage filmed a day.
11
WhoAllIll Apr 14, 2026 +6
This one shot 6 days per episode. But 5 is usually the norm for a 1/2-hr.
6
HandbagsAtNoon Apr 13, 2026 +116
One miniseries every 20 years would be neat.
116
kazh_9742 Apr 13, 2026 +80
Cast lineup might look kind of bleak in another 20 years.
80
huskersax Apr 13, 2026 +27
Cranston's friggin 70 years old. Statistically unlikely he's around at 90 and really, really rare to see someone working that late in life.

I love Bryan Cranston. that makes me feel depressed. ilysm Bryan 😭
2

but just think, with how the economy is looking working at 90 is becoming more and more likely!
5
Cheatercheaterbitch Apr 13, 2026 +18
Is that you Nolan?
18
AvengingHero2012 Apr 13, 2026 +9
This sounds way more like Linklater actually
9
PeanutFarmer69 Apr 14, 2026 +29
Let’s be real, the only cast member this is an issue for is Cranston and the dude who retired from acting to become a historian, the last episode of the miniseries felt like a send off for Hal anyway.
29
geek_of_nature Apr 14, 2026 +52
Cranston was the one pushing for this reunion though. He'd been trying to get the creator on board with it for years. It might just be what he wants to do in retirement, getting to play Hal again. And they already recast Dewey as well, so that wouldn't be an issue.
52
ThatGuyFromTheM0vie Apr 14, 2026 +6
Rumor has it they wanted it to be a movie, but had to do a miniseries because of the weird rights of movie vs tv show distribution and licensing. So mini series it was—basically broken apart movie. The inverse is also true a lot for shows. They’ll do a movie because they couldn’t get more episodes.
6
scottishdrunkard Apr 14, 2026 +5
That explains why it views more like a reunion special cut up 4 ways
5
melithium Apr 14, 2026 +13
4 episodes was easy to hide the cast not being together (malcolm is rarely with everyone, the bathroom scene with his mom, etc). That said, loved the entire thing. It’s harder to pull that off for 24 episodes.
13
TBoarder Apr 14, 2026 +11
I'd be more than happy with a show with Kelly, Leah, Tristan, and any one of the brothers.
11
tigeralidance Apr 14, 2026 +18
Reece and Kelly had a fun dynamic
18
f-ingsteveglansberg Apr 14, 2026 +5
Kelly was defo a break out for me. The OG cast were great back in the day, but you could tell Reese was warming back up into acting in some scenes.
5
mzxrules Apr 13, 2026 +8
And that's with [Frankie Muniz racing in the NASCAR Truck Series](https://www.nascar.com/wp-content/uploads/sites/7/2026/04/10/2026-apr10-frankie-muniz-malcolm-truck-672x372.jpg)

Gaius_Octavius_ Apr 13, 2026 +3
Reminds me of how they used to do reunion TV movies back in the 80s and 90s.
3
Afraid-Department-35 Apr 14, 2026 +3
It was apparently still really hard to get everyone together for this mainly because of Frankie and Bryan, Frankie with his races and Bryan is doing a ton of film and broadway.
3
f-ingsteveglansberg Apr 14, 2026 +3
I was surprised by how many cast members who are out of the game they got to return. Happy to see the Krembloins. Shame they didn't get Tania Redmond back.

Static-Stair-58 Apr 13, 2026 +660
Bryan Cranston just melts into his “Hal” role. You can tell how much he loves it. He’s also incredibly underrated when it comes to physical comedy.
660
LMBH1234182 Apr 14, 2026 +170
It’s amazing how he’s still 100% Hal. I thought that after all of his serious roles, it would feel weird watching him play Hal again, but he just absolutely nailed it in every way. All of the actors did pretty great! Even fake Dewey!
170
EdgarDanger Apr 14, 2026 +56
My fav was Reese! He's so Reese!
56
nomorecannibalbirds Apr 14, 2026 +47
I loved for his character that he has apparently gone off, been married multiple times, had a full life, and then moved back home to start bullying his family again like nothing happened.
47
Static-Stair-58 Apr 14, 2026 +7
I knew he was up to something from the very beginning and I loved it. All the original cast went right back into their roles like it was yesterday. Was very satisfied with that.
7
SalvaPot Apr 14, 2026 +51
Even Cool Hal feels like Hal, no hint of Heisenberg. This is the roll he was born to play for sure as you can tell he adores it.
51
Material-Nose6561 Apr 13, 2026 +149
He ranks up there with Lucille Ball, John Ritter, and Robin Williams in physical comedy in sitcoms.
149
Shepherd77 Apr 14, 2026 +23
Kaitlin Olson should be on that list too
23
25c-nb Apr 14, 2026 +11
Oh man watching her tumble on the sidewalk in heels and faceplanting into a car door 🤣
11
ScramItVancity Apr 14, 2026 +11
His high-pitched whimperings had me cackling hard.
11
rothael Apr 14, 2026 +7
I'm pretty sure he's telling the writers "What if I was naked for this scene?"
7
FlarblesGarbles Apr 13, 2026 +59
How on earth is his physical comedy underrated?
59
2xPutt Apr 13, 2026 +77
I think at this point more people associate him with Walter White and the serious drama he brought to Breaking bad. He has also been in a lot more serious roles so to see him just being goofy, how Malcolm In the Middle fans met him, is crazy to the drama Bryan Cranston they met.
77
Heisenburgo Apr 14, 2026 +10
He had great physical comedy in Breaking Bad too although those moments were fewer and more subtle and all. Like when he goes to Ted Beneke's building and tries to lift that potted plant to throw at him.
10
Aggressive_Chuck Apr 14, 2026 +3
Throwing the pizza on the roof.
3
FlarblesGarbles Apr 13, 2026 +38
His physical comedy indirectly got him his role on Breaking Bad because of his X-files performance. Also: Hal > Walter
38
Greatsnes Apr 14, 2026 +24
Yes but are you aware Malcolm in the Middle is a show that came out almost 3 decades ago? The show ended 20 years ago. Most people born after that either haven’t seen it or Breaking Bad was the first thing they saw him in and that’s what they associate him with. So yeah it may be obvious to you but not to the people who’ve literally never seen Malcolm.
24
f-ingsteveglansberg Apr 14, 2026 +3
I watched Breaking Bad day one because I thought Hal was going to do another comedy show!
3
Technical_Heat5215 Apr 14, 2026 +11
It’s because people associate him more with Walter White than Hal. Though, I’d argue he had a lot of physical comedy as WW too.
11
f-ingsteveglansberg Apr 14, 2026 +4
It isn't really. It was one of the things that made him a critic and fan favourite in the original show. I often feel like Bluey's dad is supposed to be a kids safe Hal.
4
MumrikDK Apr 14, 2026 +3
It's an insane statement. His second most famous role (Hal) is one of the big physical comedy performances of our times, and he is beloved for it.
3
werbo Apr 14, 2026 +3
And he's the one who was pushing the most for this Reunion
3
Rogendo Apr 14, 2026 +5
Is the show good though?
5
Static-Stair-58 Apr 14, 2026 +26
Yeh it was pretty good. I liked the way they handled a lot of the older characters. Kelly’s felt a little shoe horned in, but I liked Malcom’s daughter. I was left with a feeling of wanting more.
26
hamfist_ofthenorth Apr 14, 2026 +19
Same. The more adult-themed material was great. Malcom has so many issues, unsurprisingly. Hal's particular sequence in episode 3 *deserves an award*
19
LordManders Apr 14, 2026 +15
I really liked Kelly. All of the interactions they had with Reese felt like classic Malcolm in the Middle. I agree with you also enjoying how they wrote Leah. Everything from her dialogue to her mannerisms proved she's definitely Malcolm's daughter.

I kinda took it that Lois never actually did get her daughter after all sorta? 5 boys and not a girl! I thought it was a clever way to play into the whole continuation of no daughters but also have some representation as well.
15
lazyflowingriver Apr 14, 2026 +3
My husband missed Kelly's name at first and thought that was exactly what was happening lol
3
f-ingsteveglansberg Apr 14, 2026 +2
I thought Kelly was great. One thing that struck me though is that Jamie's gender was kept hidden for a while in the show, so it would have made sense if that character was gender fluid.
2
fakeprofile21 Apr 14, 2026 +8
Yes.
8
phyneas Apr 14, 2026 +3
It was fun. It didn't really recapture the edge of the original series, and a few scenes did overstay their welcome a bit, but overall there were a lot of funny moments and plenty of nostalgia trips. It is a bit of a shame there weren't more scenes with the original siblings together, though; Malcolm and Reese barely had like ten seconds of screen time together, and of course Dewey wasn't even actually present at all. We got some of that classic sibling relationship with Reese and Kelly, at least, but it would have been interesting to watch Malcolm reconnecting with his brothers a bit more. Guess there just wasn't really time to do it in such a short runtime.
3
dakowiml Apr 14, 2026 +2
I don't think he's underrated. I think people just simply have forgotten about it or never were aware of it due to only knowing him from his more modern Breaking Bad work. Many of us, who watched MiTM, and saw that Cranston was going to do a serious role were all doubting he could pull it off because of how great he was at being goofy. We couldn't imagine him being a great dramatic actor back then. When I saw the BB trailer and him in his tidy whities again (just like on MiTM) I rolled my eyes. Then I watched the first episode and was blown away. Had no clue he had that in his wheelhouse. Back then, he was an underrated dramatic actor. While we overrated his comedic chops.
2
TheSecondEikonOfFire Apr 13, 2026 +455
Just finished it today, it’s a lot of fun. Felt like the right amount of nostalgic without being too cliche or relying too much on fan service. Not perfect but definitely one of the better revivals
455
MuskyFelon Apr 13, 2026 +111
Was very happy with the reboot and ge finely surprised by how earnest and emotional the argument scene got. Wasn't expecting that.
111
_a_jedi_in_bed Apr 13, 2026 +81
Exactly. As far as reboots go, it definitely stood out as one of the better adaptions we've all seen. It didn't water down the characters to fit test audience/studio opinions and it stayed true to the spirit of 90s tv. The 4th episode was so satisfying as a fan. I was crying at the end.
81
unitedfan6191 Apr 13, 2026 +34
No door slamming sound effect, though (big part of the OG show). Still, one of the better revivals, though.
34
_a_jedi_in_bed Apr 13, 2026 +16
Lol that and no physical violence from Lois pulling their ears or anything. I think the creative made an executive decision to make it seem more like a movie split into parts, as opposed to 4 episodes of malcom in the middle. Even the intro was way different. I think they knew it wouldn't work that way for what they were doing
16
suss2it Apr 14, 2026 +25
There was the youngest sibling grabbing Reese by the hair and Malcolm’s daughter kicking him into the car and then repeatedly slamming the door in his face at least.
25
_a_jedi_in_bed Apr 14, 2026 +12
That is super minimal considering the crazy shit in the og show.
12
_Meece_ Apr 14, 2026 +2
The show has some insane physical comedy scenes, it was definitely lacking.
2
dreamsofaninsomniac Apr 14, 2026 +5
> I think the creative made an executive decision to make it seem more like a movie split into parts, as opposed to 4 episodes of malcom in the middle. Evidently, the OG show is huge in Mexico and execs told them it would be easier to sell there if they did it as a miniseries rather than a movie like it was originally envisioned. That's why it ended up being episodic.
5
Cygnusaurus Apr 13, 2026 +10
We had to rewind the finale of the dance scene like ten times.
10
fatcatfan Apr 15, 2026 +2
I was laughing so hard! Hal looking like >!Guy Diamond!<. Such a perfect ending. I love that they brought back so many recurring characters, even though it probably made zero sense for most of them to be at Lois and Hal's anniversary celebration.
2
ChalupaBatmanMc01 Apr 13, 2026 +61
It was good, the cast were great (Reese was out of acting for over 10 years and he didn't miss a beat!). I just don't feel it's fit for the streaming style of writing. The original series worked because each episode had their own shenanigans and stories. I also felt the family where too far apart to really see them gel. That said I'm game for more if the cast are up for it, >!I enjoyed the additions of Malcolms daughter and girlfriend.!<
61
EchoesofIllyria Apr 13, 2026 +25
Tbf it was originally planned as a movie, which probably explains the extended plot. I’m sure if they did come back for a streaming season they’d be closer to the old structure. Similar to the Scrubs revival. Edit: I see you’ve already had this conversation elsewhere lol
25
chunkyI0ver53 Apr 14, 2026 +17
Besides Bryan (obviously), I thought Justin did the best job of stepping back into his character without skipping a beat. It makes sense that his character had the least “development” since he’s Reese, but I didn’t for a second feel like there was any rust in his performance. I’d believe it if you told me he stepped out of a cryo-chamber frozen since 2006 and immediately started acting as Reese again. Ironically I thought the guy who replaced Erik as Dewey did the next best job of nailing the cadence of his character, albeit with a small sample size. He talked very similarly to how Dewey did in the original. I think Frankie had a hard job because Malcolm had changed the most out of all the characters but I honestly didn’t buy for a second that Malcolm could be less neurotic and transition to full therapy speak without breaking at the first sign of resistance lol
17
LordManders Apr 14, 2026 +2
I think for me the main thing it was missing were the cold opens that were always unrelated to the main plot. I guess with it being a story serialised over four episodes that makes it tough to do.
2
VQQN Apr 14, 2026 +7
I’m halfway through episode 3. I’m kinda gutted that Malcolm isn’t back with his family yet. I wanted them together more for this.
7
ScramItVancity Apr 14, 2026 +8
It is kinda disappointing how little we have the main cast together because their chemistry are so good.
8
bronkula Apr 14, 2026 +12
I f****** guffawed at the glitter bomb. That shit kind of came out of no where and was perfect timing.
12
Greenman8907 Apr 13, 2026 +7
This and King of the Hill both hit the right spot.
7
AbsoluteGote Apr 14, 2026 +3
It has heart. Like someone wanted to do a genuine thing with it. That's all I ask for. Really, not just doing retroactive harm to the IP is all I ask for so this is far above and beyond.
3
Dogbin005 Apr 14, 2026 +6
Definitely not as good as the original series. But there were some laughs, and it was fun seeing the old gang again. (would have liked to see way more of the Krelboynes though) I'd give it a B minus.
6
bourj Apr 13, 2026 +131
Really enjoyed it, but I think Craig deserved a more sizable role like Richie got. Craig was always incredible.
131
therealjonathank Apr 14, 2026 +52
lol I normally hate fart jokes but his …. voice acting was gold during an intense scene between Malcolm and Lois.
52
DLun203 Apr 14, 2026 +27
“The harder I try to hold it the higher the pitch goes” was hilarious
27
PrincipleNo3966 Apr 14, 2026 +10
I'm a simple man and that part had me howling.
10
bourj Apr 14, 2026 +5
Yeah, same. Not a fan of toilet humor, but that scene was pretty good.
5
BrothelWaffles Apr 14, 2026 +22
I was so stoked to see Richie back. He was always great in the original run, loved him as Frank in Raising Hope as well.
22
f-ingsteveglansberg Apr 14, 2026 +7
I didn't expect to see a Krembloin reunion.
7
ThreeTreesForTheePls Apr 13, 2026 +68
I was pretty pessimistic, but genuinely within those first 8 minutes or so, including the “previously on”, I was all in. I forgot how important this show was to young me
68
f-ingsteveglansberg Apr 14, 2026 +24
Previously on... just being a quick gag reel without any story beats was a good way to start!
24
DelGriffiths Apr 13, 2026 +149
The mini series works as a backdoor pilot for a series that follows Malcolm's daughter. I think make her and Malcolm the leads. There are plenty of stories to be told the other siblings plus Lois and Hal as grandparents.
149
OverlordPacer Apr 13, 2026 +106
I’m only here for that if Reese/Francis/Hal/Lois/Dewey play significant roles. I’d want to see them often. The daughter on her own with Malcolm just isn’t enough of a hook tbh
106
BuffaloWilliamses Apr 14, 2026 +26
Honestly I would be perfectly fine with a series of the daughter going to live with Hal and Lois and the family that is in the area.
26
Swaibero Apr 14, 2026 +26
That was literally the plot of That 90s Show, but MitM could probably pull it off far better.
26
geek_of_nature Apr 14, 2026 +3
Maybe Malcolm finally gears up for his presidential run. A couple characters mentioned he was still looking at a Political career. That way if he's off doing that, Leah could have gone to stay with the rest of the family in the meantime. Thay would probably mean not having Tristan though, which would be a shame. I liked her in the brief moments we got of her, especially how she immediately bonded with Leah and teamed up with her against Malcolm.
3
f-ingsteveglansberg Apr 14, 2026 +5
From Malcolm's characterization I don't see him sending his daughter off. She's basically his whole life.
5

LetsTryAnal_ogy Apr 14, 2026 +5
> T****-T**** Bang-Bang I lost it at that part and still giggle about it days later. I would love to see a spin off with Leah and T****-T**** Bang-Bang at the helm.
5
magical_midget Apr 14, 2026 +7
The og rub already showed they can do two story lines per episode really well, when Francis was in the academy, then Alaska, then the ranch, they can do an A story line with Malcom/daughter, and a B story focus on one of the other family members, so we get an episode with Hal/Lois, then an other with Francis. Etc. They could even make Kelly or Reese move to the same city as Malcom to have an extra character there.
7
mormonbatman_ Apr 14, 2026 +3
It'll be Malcolm's daughter and his youngest sibling.
3
Malteed Apr 14, 2026 +3
I honestly thought that was what was coming the next weeks no idea those were all the episodes were gonna get.
3
kapofx Apr 14, 2026 +37
It was good. A sequel standalone. It was not cringy like fuller house or that's 90's show where they obviously brought back characters for cheers. And those tried too hard. Malcolm in the middle, they were exactly like they were except older. I laughed and cried. The only thing missing for me was playing the full intro song at least once in the first episode or last episode. And little minor thing I wasn't a fan of Dewey being in the laptop most of the time. But I assume they were trying to get Erik to reprise his role all the way to the last minute and insert him that way.
37
indianajoes Apr 14, 2026 +8
Yes. I hated that we didn't even get one full version of the intro
8
ScramItVancity Apr 14, 2026 +8
You can tell the writers really wanted Erik back and rewriting the role like a final offer for him.
8
M086 Apr 14, 2026 +3
That was the plan, to just get Erik to do everything remotely. And when he wasn’t interested, they just liked the idea of Dewey on the laptop.

nowhereman136 Apr 13, 2026 +47
it was good. Felt enough like the original show and the cast were all good. My one complaint was that it was only 4 episodes long and most of the time was the characters doing stuff away from each other. Wouldve been nice to actually see Malcolm do stuff with his family instead of spending the bulk of the time trying to avoid them
47
fishmongerhoarder Apr 13, 2026 +23
Made it a lot easier to shoot when everyone doesn't have to be there.
23
nowhereman136 Apr 13, 2026 +3
were they busy or something? i mean besides Cranston, who even he's slowed down lately
3
fishmongerhoarder Apr 14, 2026 +5
Frankie is racing. Not sure about the others.
5
nowhereman136 Apr 14, 2026 +3
I knew he quit acting to be a racer, i didnt know he was still racing.
3
nomorecannibalbirds Apr 14, 2026 +2
They at least were more subtle about it than Arrested Development.
2
4DGigs Apr 14, 2026 +14
Bryan Cranston tripping balls for most of an episode was wild
14
ZebraCool Apr 14, 2026 +16
It was really good. Give all the screen time to Hal. He’s so awesome. I’m surprised how good Malcolm was at acting after all these years.
16
LetsTryAnal_ogy Apr 14, 2026 +2
Malcolm was exactly the same as he was in the ~~90s~~ *2000s. He nailed that role.
2
Chinchillin09 Apr 13, 2026 +96
Kelly and Leah are surprisingly likeable. I really enjoyed Kelly's dynamic with Reese and Francis, and Leah's expressions and awkwardness are cute. It just left me wanting more! All the characters are back in peak form, I need more of this crazy family
96
karpomalice Apr 14, 2026 +55
Yeah she was there, and did a great job, filling the dynamic left open by Dewey not truly being there. I don’t think people realize how important Dewey’s character is to most of the shenanigans that happen. He’s simultaneously the “normal” voice of reason and the instigator to Reese and Hal in a lot of episodes. Dewey was the only character who truly showed he understands the family and can manipulate all of them.
55
RainbowTardigrade Apr 14, 2026 +8
They did a really good job incorporating these newer characters into the mix of the established cast that everybody has such a fondness for. That was one of my bigger concerns, but having watched the first few eps I was already thinking "I'd watch a show focused on these new people!"
8
wojar Apr 14, 2026 +3
I really like Kelly's character! Would love to see them interacting with Malcolm more though.
3
Saratje Apr 14, 2026 +10
To be honest I'd even be fine with a Kelly, Leah and Hubert spin-off with Malcolm and Tristan as supporting cast, Dreamer showing up and having grandpa Hal and grandma Lois and their siblings/uncles showing up now and then. Given that the original cast may not all be up to do a full show again. The new characters fit amazing well into the narrative.
10
makman44 Apr 13, 2026 +63
I loved the new series. I hope more episodes come out, they definitely left the window open for that.
63
bloodyzombies1 Apr 13, 2026 +36
Frankie Muniz (Malcom actor) said this was originally going to be a movie and was reworked into a streaming show, which is why it's a four episode serialized story. If it's a huge hit it'd be interesting to see a full episodic season because the structure would be very different.
36
LetsTryAnal_ogy Apr 14, 2026 +3
Keep in mind that by today's standard, a full episodic season is still only 8 episodes. :(
3
ChalupaBatmanMc01 Apr 13, 2026 +4
> If it's a huge hit it'd be interesting to see a full episodic season because the structure would be very different. This would be nice, it's what I love about the original series
4
surferdude7227 Apr 13, 2026 +11
Definitely feels like a revival series is coming with Malcolm’s daughter in the role he had in the original series.
11
chewytime Apr 14, 2026 +5
If they kept the setting in whatever city Malcolm currently lives in, they wouldnt need to include the rest of the family regularly so casting would be easier. Only issue is since this was filmed in Canada, I dont know if Frankie would commit to living there for several months out of the year unless they move filming stateside.
5
PizzzaPizzza18 Apr 14, 2026 +7
Im upset again that they canned the Lizzie McGuire revival 😭
7
Ok-Captain-462 Apr 13, 2026 +13
Somehow I missed Malcom the middle when it first came out. I assumed it would be wonder years style sentimental goop, but I was completely wrong about that. It’s a hilarious well written and acted show with a definite edge to it. Now I’m caught up and enjoying the new episodes!
13
Xaelar Apr 14, 2026 +6
Enjoyed the show but the fact that it is only 4 episodes is a major bummer.
6
draxes Apr 14, 2026 +6
Just wish Reese would have been a master chief. I loved his story angle thay he he found his calling by being a really good chief
6
Littletom523 Apr 13, 2026 +18
Honestly, if they just wanted to keep doing these like mini series every few years I would be down! Maybe make it six instead of four episodes though that might be my only criticism is I just feel like four was not enough. With six, you can at least tell a larger story. But as long as the cast and the crew and the same writers, want to keep doing it, I don’t see a problem.
18
Malteed Apr 14, 2026 +3
I was waiting for the next four it definitely didn't feel like the end of the show but just the beginning with new characters being written in. Very sad there aren't any more episodes immediately ready for release. We desperately need a new sitcom with regular seasons with 20+ episodes and a few years running there just isn't anything out right now that fills this void except cartoon shows.
3
English_Joe Apr 13, 2026 +10
It was such a heavy nostalgia hit. Really enjoyed it. Scrubs was great too!
10
Junior_Operation_422 Apr 13, 2026 +6
Taylor Dearden’s dad also on a hit show. Nice
6
stonewallace17 Apr 13, 2026 +7
Smh Hollywood nepotism, just because she's in a popular show doesn't mean her dad deserves roles
7
PM-PicsOfYourMom Apr 14, 2026 +4
I thought it was good. The scrubs revival is great.
4
maggoty Apr 14, 2026 +13
There were bits and pieces of the show that were good, but I didn't enjoy it overall. It was great how they got so many characters back, and the new characters were all good. No complaints there. It was more the expectations of living up to the original series. It's basically impossible to be like how it was back in the day. I did enjoy Reece's character though. His character basically hasn't changed, and seeing him being basically the same, but as an adult was kinda funny.
13
Username43241 Apr 14, 2026 +11
The funniest moment by far is when Reese is talking to Kelly about how he’s been there before and knows it will just end up blowing back on him and ending badly for everyone and it seems like he genuinely wants to call a truce, then does exactly what you expect and says he’s looking forward to it anyway. 😂
11
maggoty Apr 14, 2026 +2
Yep, just a totally Reece way of doing things... :-) Very on point.
2
DragonBornLuke Apr 14, 2026 +3
Couldn't agree more. Some good jokes in the first couple of episodes with Hal being an internet sensation and constantly trying to show his love but overall they didn't have a good story written at all. Back in the day, an episode would have an explosive finale that was being built to and it felt like they just tacked it on for the sake of it. Felt like they just went hard into the relationships because they didn't have much else. Great to see all the characters but probably shouldn't have bothered if they got less than 10 seconds.
3
Material-Nose6561 Apr 13, 2026 +17
It's no Scrubs reboot, (The Scrubs reboot is phenominal!) but it was alright. Hal stole the show as always.
17
fishmongerhoarder Apr 13, 2026 +6
I could have watched 4 episodes of hal in the room by himself.

HandbagsAtNoon Apr 13, 2026 +23
Will always remember this show. (Because I made a typo in another thread — called it “Malcolm in the Middle East” — and when I logged back in later the post had hundreds of up votes but had also been shadow-removed because a paranoid user left tons of replies insisting to everyone that I was a bot.)
23
K3egan Apr 13, 2026 +22
No no that was Reece. Reece was the one who went to the middle east for an episode.
22
realblush Apr 13, 2026 +8
I didn't feel the first episode until the final scene, but really enjoyed the three other episodes.

EvilNinjaX24 Apr 14, 2026 +17
>!Malcolm running down the street, and continuing to do so (into the second episode!), killed me.!<

cir49c29 Apr 14, 2026 +14
Yeah, the way Lois said “You have a daughter?!!” and Leah responded with “She’s alive?” absolutely cracked me up.
14
VQQN Apr 14, 2026 +4
It was my favorite part. But did I miss something or was it the writer’s intent for the audience to find out Malcolm was lying to both of them?
4
cir49c29 Apr 14, 2026 +2
I don’t know how the audience could avoid finding out he was lying to both. Not unless they somehow had Leah not meet any of the family. But that would change the entire plot
2
Hardlymd Apr 16, 2026 +2
That was my first huge laugh :) of the new story

typehyDro Apr 13, 2026 +5
I was so excited to see this release on the 10th and then so disappointed on the 11th when I found out it was only 4 episodes
5
Emptypiro Apr 14, 2026 +3
I found out in this thread that it was only 4 episodes, but I did feel like that last episode was very finale-ish
3
TheWholeOfTheAss Apr 13, 2026 +3
Great! Hopefully this means a full season is on the cards.
3
CapriciousManchild Apr 14, 2026 +3
I really loved it . I was laughing a ton at all the bits and especially everything with Hal. Was great seeing a lot of the secondary older cast as well. I couldn’t stop laughing in the last episode it was just nonstop laughs .
3
Deep-Assignment4124 Apr 13, 2026 +8
I watched the first one.  It wasn’t very funny.

Gui_Montag Apr 14, 2026 +5
I really loved Malcolm in the Middle growing up , but with Frankie Muniz being MAGA I just cant support this. (I know my support is meaningless but I just cant )
5
AvailableReporter484 Apr 13, 2026 +9
Only one episode in, but I’m enjoying it. It’s about what I’d expect from something like this. I’m hoping the rest continues to be ok

WhoEvenIsPoggers Apr 14, 2026 +4
Hope this doesn’t fall prey to the 2 Season curse that most legacy tv show revivals get. Usually the 1st season gets a huge audience due to a combination of genuine interest, nostalgia, and curiosity. Then the show gets announced for S2. Then it takes 2-4 years to make the next season and all interest in the show is gone. S2 underperforms and is not signed on for a 3rd season and is cancelled.
4
HEYitzED Apr 14, 2026 +4
I just finished it. I loved it personally. I just wish there was more now!

It was meh

roodootootootoo Apr 13, 2026 +11
As a fan of the original I liked everything about it except the >!hidden daughter reveal as it felt kind of forced. The actress was just alright, not that she was a bad actor at all, but I just felt like she didn’t hit the Malcom manic mannerisms. Imo they could have carried the same plot with the GF whose character i enjoyed a lot as a foil to Malcom!<
11
arazamatazguy Apr 13, 2026 +30
The "you have a daughter" scene was hilarious.

xmagie Apr 14, 2026 +3
It made me think of that Frasier episode where the male lead from "Cheers" (I never watched it so I don't remember his name) came to Seattle. He told Martin that according to Frasier, he was a scientist and he was dead.
3
M086 Apr 14, 2026 +6
You gotta give credit to Fraiser for even bothering to explain that discrepancy. A sitcom in the ‘90s would typically have ignored that fact from Cheers.
6
Hardlymd Apr 16, 2026 +2
I feel like the daughter could’ve been cast a bit better
2
tanaciousp Apr 13, 2026 +5
Agreed

* Will they make a new full season? * Yes, no, maybe I don't know, can you repeat the question?

Scrubs is also very good, I haven’t laughed that hard in a while.
2
scotty899 Apr 14, 2026 +2
The first episode was like meh. Then it went full bonkers. Awesome
2
MaritimeStar Apr 14, 2026 +2
I'm surprised it's so good. The ending to the first episode was so perfectly in tune with the classic series and had me really laughing out loud. The cast seems really into it too, it is great.
2
Grizzybaby1985 Apr 14, 2026 +2
I really hope they make more it was excellent an the new cast did a great job too fit right in
2
darybrain Apr 14, 2026 +2
The finale should show Cranston's character from Breaking Bad waking up from a bad dream that he lived in a crazy house with a wife and 3 kids.
2
Colman91 Apr 14, 2026 +2
It’s like Bryan Cranston has never been away from his role as Hal, he was the stand out performance in the show. You can tell he genuinely loves the character and the show.
2
Berkyjay Apr 15, 2026 +2
At least give me a spin off staring Malcolm's daughter.
2
dakowiml Apr 16, 2026 +2
I knew the original was popular, but I never thought it was THIS popular. I grew up with the show in the 2000s, it was big but I wouldn't have ranked it as big like a Friends or The Office. The types shows that were being mentioned by ''the mainstream'' constantly in popculture references or in interviews with former stars. MITM also wasn't the type of show that got circlejerked in the years after on Listnook. Nor did it get a huge surge in popularity due to streaming like a The Office did. Not on that level. So I grew up with it. LOVED it while growing up. Also went back to it years later, but never really saw lots of chatter about it on a huge scale. It makes it kinda surprising to me how massive the marketing for the reunion was and how huge the numbers have been. It was also the type of show Breaking Bad fans would discover through Bryan Cranston and be completely surprised he was so good at comedy (while my generation was surprised he was so good at dramatic acting when he did Breaking Bad). It's nice to see though. It always deserved to be mentioned alongside the greatest comedic series. Which is also something I saw little of. While it was pretty influential as a comedic series without a laugh track, in an era where those were still the most popular ones.

Fhloston-Paradisio Apr 17, 2026 +2
It was really funny.
2
TheMegaWhopper Apr 13, 2026 +3
I hope this was a test run to see if theres interest for a series following Malcolm and his daughter. I really want more
3
not1fuk Apr 14, 2026 +3
Let me be clear, I dont think it was terrible but I just dont understand how you can have a Malcolm in the Middle reunion without.... Malcolm being in the middle of his brothers shenanigans. The lack of dysfunctional brotherly interaction was a complete disappointment in my eyes. The decision to have Malcolm be far away from his family was a mistake that hurt it and they fumbled Reeses character. I liked the addition of Kelly and Lois and Hal were as great as they always are but it was a show about the shenanigans of the brothers and this reunion did not fulfill that. In comparison to Scrubs, Scrubs felt like a genuine natural progression of where it all ended and picked up with a great cast of new characters with the characters we know and love. Same emotional feeling of the original series too. Just hands down a more fitting reunion of its respective show.
