Not sure I would want to follow Denzel on this one.

Or Tony Scott directing. I like how Max Payne 3 was a Man on Fire tribute

You could also add Dakota Fanning to the list, it's a great child performance.

She calls it Creasy bear…

dennismfrancisart Apr 17, 2026 +17
I was just talking about the Fanning sisters long careers. They are both amazing actors.
17
Childs_Play Apr 18, 2026 +7
You can probably only count on one hand child acting performances that are comparable or better. It's so unreal how good she is in that movie.

“ So I guess I'd become what they wanted me to be, a killer. Some rent-a-clown with a gun who puts holes in other bad guys. Well that's what they had paid for, so in the end that's what they got. Say what you want about Americans but we understand capitalism. You buy yourself a product and you get what you pay for, and these chumps had paid for some angry gringo without the sensibilities to know right from wrong. Here I was about to execute this poor b****** like some dime store angel of death and I realized they were correct, I wouldn't know right from wrong if one of them was helping the poor and the other was banging my sister...”

Oh man, Dan Houser's writing is so distinctive from Sam Lake's, but this was and is absolute gold.

Same! Max Payne 3 was such a fun game. I really really hate how as a console player it’s stuck on PS3 for me. I want to play it again but the PS3 is rough.

If ANYTHING should be made a movie or a show. Max Payne: Angel De La Muerte would be my pick. Just some great shit.
13
Loathestorm Apr 16, 2026 +7
I recently rewatched Man on Fire and I thought the directing was absolutely a product of the time. Way too many shaky, sharp cut aways with color filters. I didn’t think it held up very well.
7
sexandliquor Apr 16, 2026 +49
Right. The Tony Scott/Denzel film is so seminal that movies and video games have spent the last 20 years copying its formula and chasing that dragon.
49
Slendercan Apr 16, 2026 +81
Yahya Abdul-Mateen II has lowkey been typecast in legacy roles. He’s following Denzel in this, then he was Morpheus in Matrix 4, Candyman and then his character in Wonderman has a meta element of being an actor taking on the role of a rebooted character.
81
gregosaurusrex Apr 17, 2026 +46
Dr. Manhattan in Watchmen, too
46
RainbowStreetfood Apr 16, 2026 +50
Agreed, he’s always good but in that film it’s like he really felt the role.
50
DestituteDomino Apr 16, 2026 +49
That and Training Day will always be the top Denzel roles in my opinion. Toss John Q in there too. There's arguments to be had, but I'm locked in.
49
Prince_of_Pirates Apr 16, 2026 +19
Watched Training Day (again) the other day and Denzel just owns it.
19
0ddT0dd Apr 16, 2026 +7
Add Ricochet to that list.
7
gmredditt Apr 16, 2026 +8
Fallen absolutely top tier Denzel
8
thecescshow Apr 17, 2026 +2
Training Day is pretty much just The Denzel Show. A must watch for anyone that loves Denzel. Although shoutout to Hawke for an incredible performance as well alongside Denzel.

SlowCrates Apr 16, 2026 +24
Yeah this is one of his greatest portrayals of an absolutely tortured person who finds peace in protecting a completely innocent person. He's had similar roles, but none of them have the same impact for my money than Man on Fire. The whole movie was great and everyone's performance added something significant. Good f****** luck on this project. I'll watch it, but I'm not expecting it to be half as good.
24
ObviousAnswerGuy Apr 16, 2026 +15
For sure, the movie is a classic. Also when I first knew Dakota Fanning was gonna be a star.
15
wagon_ear Apr 17, 2026 +3
I just rewatched it last month and it was so f****** good. The acting is killer but also the entire way the film was shot was just so unique. Super gritty feel to it, haven't seen anything else quite like that style.

Luci-Noir Apr 17, 2026 +5
Both her and Elle are great. Elle was so derpy and lovable in Predator Badlands.
5
ka1913 Apr 17, 2026 +7
Denzil made it so everyone forgot that the movie was a remake. Scott glenn stars in the original.
7
crosswatt Apr 16, 2026 +15
I felt the same way with Bradley Cooper following Kris Kristofferson in *A Star is Born* but he pulled it off masterfully. The Denzel version of this movie is forever goated in my house, but I will still certainly watch this as a similar but different story and hope they tell their version well.
15
Hank_Scorpio_ObGyn Apr 16, 2026 +14
I felt the same way with Kris Kristofferson following James Mason in *A Star is Born* but he pulled it off masterfully.
14
Luci-Noir Apr 17, 2026 +3
People need to stop judging things before they come out. Listnook is so full of people hating things before they’re even released and it gets old.
3
skag_boy87 Apr 16, 2026 +7
I mean Denzel followed Scott Glenn. The original Man on Fire was set in Italy in the 80s.

They might skip it. It has been 22 years since the movie, and it would take too long to explain what a pager is, let alone a pager watch.

Would it? Pagers were in the news pretty recently when Israel set off a ton of them.

A smart watch bluetoothed to a vibrating b******* retrofitted with a small explosive instead of a vibe motor would be much more in line with the times.

Every now and then, Walken takes a role and reminds everyone why despite the memes and jokes, he’s one of the best actors of his (incredibly stacked) generation
69
OwnerOfCat Apr 16, 2026 +14
I just recently rewatched the Deer Hunter, Walken represents a man breaking down from the trauma of war incredibly well.

I have a fever and the only thing that can cure it, is more paintings from Creesi
5

Is that how they spell it in the movie? The usual spelling of that name is Creasey or Creasy
4
Devilofchaos108070 Apr 16, 2026 +206
He’s a great actor but I dunno. I f****** love the movie. Denzel and that lil girl (forgot her name but she’s all growed up and a good actress still) do such a damn good job. I’ll prob watch this but I don’t really see the point of remaking it
206
yo_soy_soja Apr 16, 2026 +199
Dakota Fanning was the girl in the Denzel movie. She's still acting, but her sister Elle Fanning is a bigger star nowadays.
199
FudgeAllOfYous Apr 16, 2026 +142
Which is kinda crazy because in Man On Fire AND War of the Worlds she worked eye to eye with some of the greatest actors of our times and stood her ground, her acting was superb in both movies.
142
Mecca_Lecca_Hi Apr 16, 2026 +43
Opposite Sean Penn in I Am Sam too, which was as misfire, but just adding to the list of accomplished actors she stared with. She was one of the most famous, always working child actors of that era. Her and Haley Joel Osment were the go-to child actors for major studio films. But she did step back as a teen, which is understandable and Elle was just starting out and had that classic regal Hollywood beauty and the acting chops to boot so no surprise her career took off and she outgrew her child actor status and became even more accomplished and success she went on.
43
nightmanyeah Apr 16, 2026 +13
Misfire? I Am Sam was a great film with superb performances!
13
joluboga Apr 16, 2026 +76
Naah. Sean Penn went full retard on that one. That's why he went home empty-handed.

I loved it when it came out, but I don't think I'd have quite the same response to it now.
4
Mecca_Lecca_Hi Apr 16, 2026 +4
Ya, misfire was the wrong word, but what you said touches on what I meant. It’s not as revered or celebrated now as it was on release and some find the portrayal a bit problematic looking back at it now, some critiquing the performance, some questioning whether its appropriate to play a character with a such disability at all.
4
rlovelock Apr 16, 2026 +13
He went full retard. Went home empty. Never go full retard.

She was insanely good in man on fire for her age, even for an adult.
15
Luci-Noir Apr 17, 2026 +2
It’s kind of weird seeing kids in movies who have the acting chops of Oscar winners or Hollywood legends. Hallie Steinfeld did this too.
2
faretheewellennui Apr 18, 2026 +2
Saoirse Ronan as well
2
Luci-Noir Apr 18, 2026 +2
Definitely. It’s pretty amazing they can basically become legends on their first job as a child. That might not be the right word but it’s pretty close.

Opposite Robert Deniro as well in Hide & Seek.
10
ObviousAnswerGuy Apr 16, 2026 +9
Dakota had a pretty big/long run after that movie. She made her money, I think she is just more choosey with her roles in the last 5 years or so ( I really enjoyed The Watchers)

And she starred opposite him in Equalizer 3. And again stood toe-to-toe with one of the best actors of our time.

Yeah I really liked her in that. Stood as a badass in her own way.
5
Leepysworld Apr 16, 2026 +5
tbf I feel like that was a choice thing, I can’t imagine she would have ever been short on work. she probably made enough money as a child actor to live pretty comfortably forever and wanted to do other things.

This trailer is ridiculous in all the worst ways. First it's the annoying pop song trailer filled with drums and stings. Stupid and derivative. But more than that it's way to grand a scale. In the original film Denzel isn't taking on dozens of armored militarized police units with fully automatic weapons. He's getting shot at by off duty cops with 9mms driving around in Crown Vics and 1989 Ford Rangers. It's not the spectacle that made that movie great it was the emotionality. The biggest problem for me though is that trailer lacks any and all emotional connection between the lead actor and the kidnapping victim which is what set Man on Fire apart from every other action movie. The original story (not plot) was about a self-loathing and sjicio man being confronted unexpectedly with the possibility of redemption. Peta was Creasey's redemption personified. She was young and innocent and if she could find something about Creasey to love then Creasey must have some ounce of good in him that justifies why he should live another day. When he tries to commit suicide he has no idea why his corrupt soul was spared by a faulty round. When Peta is taken away from him he realizes he was saved that night to punish those true corrupt souls who would harm such pure ones. Did anything in this trailer make you feel a connection to the main character or the Peta (who is way too old for this part btw)? No. They don't even bother to explain how they know each other. [Compare it to the original trailer](https://youtu.be/eDDh50B6kA4?si=_W2Vw4yr9uE2zW2z) where the entire focus is the relationship. No huge set pieces. Just a focus on Creasey and Peta. This trailer is soulless trash meant for the algoritjm

The orignal has an emotional core that stays. This one is more run and gun, action.

You may be interested to know that [Denzel’s movie](https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0328107/) was actually the [second adaptation](https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0093489/) of the source material. So was technically a remake itself.
34
Demerzel69 Apr 16, 2026 +4
Scott Glenn! Kevin Garvey, Sr. himself!
4
ando967 Apr 16, 2026 +4
I’ve read all the AJ Quinell books and always wondered why they didn’t follow the story line with Denzel cast. Would have been opportunity for 5-6 movies.
4
milkymaniac Apr 16, 2026 +7
The Denzel version was itself a remake. The original is from 1987 and stars Scott Glenn as Creasy. This series is an adaptation of both the original 1980 novel and its 1992 sequel.
7
arthurdentstowels Apr 18, 2026 +2
My comment was going to be "Seems unnecessary, but I'll still watch it." Denzel played such a great role that it'll be hard to detach from his performance.
2
Misdirected_Colors Apr 16, 2026 +7
Basically R rated Taken before Taken.
7
Dallas2houston120 Apr 16, 2026 +5
Taken wasn’t rated R?
5
Misdirected_Colors Apr 16, 2026 +4
It as a hard PG-13, but they did lots of cutting away from the more violent stuff and letting your mind fill the gaps.

She’s in an episode of CSI as well that’s one of the best. First time I saw her and she stuck with me. Cool to see her pop up in movies later.
2
tangential_quip Apr 16, 2026 +62
Based on very quick research it seems like a new adaptation of the original novel and its sequel, but given the synopsis I have found will depart significantly from the source material.
62
bluntz4eva Apr 16, 2026 +22
Thank you! People are really missing this and not realizing it’s not a remake of the movie, but adapted from the books (which the movie was adapted from too)

Yep, I'm one that missed it and now I'm actually super interested in it.

Wait is this a 50% match remake of the Denzel Washington classic?
24

It’s based off the book series which predated the first movie.
42

It's hilarious that people in chat are finding out the Denzel version is a remake as well as they b**** about remakes. I for one will watch all three versions and read the first book and b**** about them like a true f****** r/televison listnookor.
69

Because the original was shit compared to what Denzel and Tony Scott did. People don't know about the first one for a reason.

A lot of comments here seem to not realize that the movie starring Denzel Washington is not the [original](https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0093489/).
38
Xerxis96 Apr 16, 2026 +35
I don't think it's that as much as the Denzel version is just one of the better films to ever be made. I'm definitely giving it a shot, but it's ballsy to make a remake of a remake that is a 10/10 movie.
35
Great_cReddit Apr 16, 2026 +8
I agree. This is like a top 3 movie for me. The relationship between Creasy and Pita is what made it so impactful. I hope they can do the same here. As of now it looks like an action movie rather than a revenge/redemption movie.
8
angryshib Apr 16, 2026 +3
I'm not ashamed to admit I cried like a baby at the end. It hit so hard.
3
Dallas2houston120 Apr 16, 2026 +7
I don’t think the movie was ever seen as a 10/10 it’s just that Denzel gave a 10/10 performance. I think if they can improve the story line and YaYa gives us a 8/10 performance that’s enough to satisfy most people.
7
Lawdoc1 Apr 16, 2026 +5
I had no idea. And actually a damn good cast: Scott Glenn, Joe Pesci, Jonathan Pryce, Danny Aiello
5
Aggravating-ErrorME Apr 16, 2026 +4
It's how remakes should be. Superior remake of a mediocre original instead of the other way around. Still worth a watch though. Scott Glenn is never bad even in bad movies.
4
moileduge Apr 16, 2026 +6
Scarface is not the original either. Try to make a remake with Chalamet and you'd get the same response from people.

A show on Netflix huh? If its good it'll be canceled before the story wraps up.

Lisa: What are you gonna do? Creasy: What I do best. I'm gonna kill 'em. Anyone that was involved. Anybody who profited from it. Anybody who opens their eyes at me. Lisa: \[Whispering\] You kill 'em all. *(starts the riff from NIN - The Mark Has Been Made)* That scene makes you savor revenge in such an exquisite way

This is one of those ones that doesnt need a remake.

The original Man on Fire is fun, but part of what makes it so memorable is the crazy cinematography and editing; it's kinda surreal at points in the ways it explores Creasy's faith and guilt and him kinda going insane unleashing violence on the kidnappers. Abdul-Mateen II is a great actor but it looks like Netflix is just going for a generic Reacher/Alex Cross show action series. Kinda a shame

tubbymaguire91 Apr 16, 2026 +2
Not saying this to fanboy the original but this movie looks really bland and boring. Creesi and the little girl dont have close to the presence Denzel and Dakota Fanning had.
2
JonnieTaiPei Apr 16, 2026 +2
Why?
2
Calvinball86 Apr 17, 2026 +2
Man on Fire has no remake. Man on Fire needs no remake.
2
Jingu96Aliosha Apr 17, 2026 +2
Good luck trying to recreate that final goodbye between Denzel and Dakota Fanning.
2
Duckspuck Apr 17, 2026 +2
A really good movie. Watched it ike 10 times.
2
Krakengreyjoy Apr 17, 2026 +2
The original is a masterpiece, I'm not sure about this
2
ChurchOfSatin Apr 17, 2026 +2
Seriously. I don’t even know why they would attempt to remake this movie.
2
SheepWolves Apr 17, 2026 +2

goliathfasa Apr 17, 2026 +2
This a reboot/soft reboot? If it is, why. It’s only been like what, 20 years? Is it a sequel? Then put a 2 or a subtitle on it. wtf.
2
Neo808 Apr 17, 2026 +2
Creasy’s art is death
2
PlasticCheebus Apr 17, 2026 +2
I was about to complain that we already did this one *and* it had Denzel, but then I saw Scoot McNairy, and honestly, just go for it. Everyone from Halt and Catch Fire deserves all the work they want to take on. That show was criminally underrated.

Remarkable-Man Apr 17, 2026 +2
I don't think people in this thread seem to realize that the Denzel Washington movie was already a remake of the 1987 movie with Scott Glenn and Joe Pecsi, which is already an adaptation of the 1980 novel by [A. J. Quinnell](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/A._J._Quinnell)... [https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0093489/](https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0093489/)

mikey2505 Apr 16, 2026 +4
What was the point of remaking this? The original still holds up really well
4
cgknight1 Apr 16, 2026 +5
The Scott Glenn version? https://youtu.be/zkTs6zf8kBs?si=Q4QHgYhenfO6xBwv I prefer the Denzil Washington remake but it's cool you prefer the original.
5
mikey2505 Apr 16, 2026 +4
I could pretend I meant original to me but the truth is I had no Idea the Denzel version was a remake, So I'll restate, the Denzel version still holds up really well and, in the future, do some resaearch
4
Halfdaykid Apr 16, 2026 +3
The 1987 original?
3
nabs212 Apr 16, 2026 +4
There can be only one, and his name is Denzel.
4
mattevil8419 Apr 16, 2026 +3
To be fair the Denzel movie was a remake of an 80s Scott Glenn movie.
3
BigWormsFather Apr 16, 2026 +3
I’m tired of remakes, especially of things that were great the first or last time they were made.
3
Circaninetysix Apr 16, 2026 +8
Why the f*** are they remaking this?
8
Mainbaze Apr 16, 2026 +9
Netflix
9
FistThroater Apr 16, 2026 +10
It's based off a series of novels so they're rebooting the first in order to continue with the rest.
10
Circaninetysix Apr 16, 2026 +5
Oh, I had no idea actually.
5
FistThroater Apr 16, 2026 +2
Same. I only found out in this thread.
2
cgknight1 Apr 16, 2026 +7
It's another adaption of the books - the Washington/Scott version itself was not the first: https://youtu.be/zkTs6zf8kBs?si=Q4QHgYhenfO6xBwv
