> The judge set a headline sentence of six years’ imprisonment but reduced it to three years and nine months by reason of mitigation. Sounds like we won't have to wait too long for #125.

Normal in Ireland , especially Dublin ...scumbags do very little time in prison and commit crime pretty much straight away knowing they wont be in jail long ..also commit multiple more crimes and keep being arrested while waiting to go to jail... also we hand out suspended sentences for big crimes ..like people getting caught with dodgy stuff on their computer and not going to jail ..there is even a petition against one of our judges with over 60k signatures for him giving suspended sentences. https://www.change.org/p/minister-for-justice-judge-martin-nolan-resignation

this is normal all over the west. at this point judges should be made liable for recidivism

Headline response: I hope there is more to that headline. The fact they actually arrested someone for stabbing someone else should be common sense. > ...He has 123 previous convictions, including offences for assault and possession of knives. Maybe 'jailed' has a different meaning in Dublin. Where were they keeping him while awaiting trial for offense 124? Surely not back out on the street.

Convictions and being jailed are two different things.

I think the intent of that comment was to highlight how seemingly irrational it is to have 123 prior convictions and be walking free. Particularly so in this case, with violent offenses in the past, and given the fact that the perpetrator stabbed someone. Either zero efforts to prevent recidivism or a hopeless case who shouldn’t be around the rest of society.
