The road to MTG gaining even a little bit of trust wraps around the planet several times. It's good that a high level former MAGA member is vocally anti Trump but she's off in her own corner here and not someone I'd ever call an ally.

SminahinApr 2, 2026

She's clearly maneuvering for a 2028 or 2032 run, imo. Don't trust her at all, instead be terrified that she's playing her hand this well.

This
And I haven't seen anyone since Trump himself get so much unearned good press.
She is not an ally, she cannot be harnessed for good, thinking she can is essentially that shit Trumpers thibk about Trump. "Sure, he's awful, but as long as he hurts only my enemies and never me, it'll be fine!" Then he hurts all involved because he took his idiot supporters for a ride. We don't need to be taken for a ride by MTG to find out she still sucks, we don't need to fall for the damn "wallet inspector."

I hope no one is stupid enough to actually vote for this woman.
MAGA/conservatives hate women and would only support her as an extension of their cult leader, not as an independent person.
Surely there can’t be enough “OMG, I agree with MTG now!” people to elect her.

Given how badly our Dem establishment is misplaying our entire collective hand, I think it's a very scary possibility. If they push forward another bland, pro-establishment, status-quo "centrist"...they'll probably win off the 2028 backlash, which is why I think the MTG/Tucker/Fuentes side is going to save their shot until 2032. But a Newsom type almost certainly cannot win re-election in 2032, unless he's a dramatic surprise governing. This would leave the lane wide open for an anti-establishment, "reform Republican" style attack. And I think a Tucker/MTG style candidate with Fuentes wing support is going to absolutely *slaughter* a generic Dem centrist at the ballot box any year except probably 2028, due to the backlash.
I'm going to scream if MTG becomes the first female president through sheer Dem incompetence.

I think MTG is trying to build credibility and her political brand. She recognized that the Trump effects would be devastating and quit before the damages ramped up, so her name wouldn't be associated with that awfulness. She's going to say something like "I had to get out of the system to fix it". She's doing textbook perfect political maneuvering to chase higher political office. She's also aligning herself with the Tucker/Fuentes side of the Republican party that's almost certain to win the Republican civil war.
She's handling it *very* skillfully, to a degree that concerns me. It's like she realized in her 50s that she'd never spent any of her level ups her whole life, and she just mass upgraded. To be clear, I'm not complimenting her skill. I'm saying there's an enemy general out there maneuvering with a lot of skill and getting ready to outflank us.

Her media presence? She was a sitting member of congress, her voice was more powerful in the legislative branch than it is on a media tour. She wants to stay relevant even though she was a coward and didnt put up a fight in Congress.

3
CatCatchingABirdApr 2, 2026
+3
This is how I'm feeling as well. She was a strong supporter of Trump and for that I feel as though because of that she had a responsibility to stay and fight back. She claimed that there were threats to her and her family, and if that is true, why is she on a high-profile media tour? Did the threats just suddenly stop after she resigned?
I get it. Trump is not someone I would ever want to work with. But she's a part of the reason why Trump is in charge. She resigned because it was political advantage for her to do so and that was the save face excuse she came up with. If she tries to slime her way back into office, her opponents should bring this up. I know it's a long shot but I hope the Democrat running for her seat gets elected. All ex-MAGA have a special responsibility here because they are the reason we are in this mess, and instead of living up to the moment she jumped ship.

Before giving this woman one iota of credit or attention, remember that she is one of the reasons that we are here in the first place. She was a key player in the rise of both MAGA and Trump, made millions in the process, and still wholeheartedly supports the MAGA ideology. And while there are definitely rifts between the two, she still largely supports Trump on most matters.
This woman's motives are self-serving and she should not be trusted. Ever.

Thoughts after listening to US President Donald J. Trump at 9 pm tonight. He engaged in an unfocused, meandering piece of bragging even as the global economy is tanking and ordinary people are heading into hard times.
