Maude Apatow's Critically-Acclaimed Directorial Debut 'Poetic License' Pushed from May Release Date to October Amidst Financial Trouble at Distribution Company (Row K) - The film premiered at TIFF and stars Cooper Hoffman, Leslie Mann, Nico Parker, Method Man, Andrew Barth Feldman & Jake Bongiovi.
that’s a lot of famous kids, but I still suspect Parker is just a clone of Thandiwe Newton

And that nearly unknown artist managed to convince Judd Apatow to be a p.g.a. producer (a producer who does a lot of work on the film). Just being able to get a meeting with Judd Apatow is darn near impossible for no name artists, so she must have really knocked that meeting out of the park to get a critically acclaimed producer to put his efforts into this film.
Downright amazing.

Also idk if you noticed but it’s shares a production studio with Superbad, Step Brothers, Bridesmaids, basically every great comedy from 2005-2015. This girl must really know how to talk to these people!
Edit: ah just noticed she was in movies like Knocked Up with Leslie Mann and this production studio 🤦♂️ she probably made a really good impression for a child and set and built the relationship from there.

"The money is coming" is a comment that I heard many times as someone who spent several years working under Raj Singh at National Lampoon. Sadly for everyone who is owed money from Row K, I am fairly confident that the money is not coming. I'm owed thousands of dollars from my time at National Lampoon that I know I'm never going to get. Not paying employees and vendors was a very common theme there and it looks like it's carried over to Row K. The guys at National Lampoon burned through tens of millions of dollars of investor money and didn't produce a single movie. If you'd like to see for yourself, it's all public information. They bought National Lampoon for $12M+ (of investor money, as reported by Deadline) and didn't make a single movie. It looks like they did the same thing at Row K (though Row K did at least release one film). I'm not posting this comment to add fuel to the fire. I'm posting it in hopes that people see it and these guys can finally be stopped. They have been up to no good for years and they continue to get opportunities to run companies and produce movies. I don't know Chris Woodrow but from the articles that come up when you Google him, he seems to be just as bad. It baffles me how they even got funding for this new venture. Working at National Lampoon was a nightmare and I genuinely feel sorry for the employees and vendors of Row K who are most likely never going to see a penny. I tried commenting this on the Variety article but it didn't get approved for whatever reason, so I had to turn to Reddit.

I was honestly rooting for Row K. It had been 5+ years since I spoke to anyone at National Lampoon so I had essentially moved on. I was hoping the industry got another good indie distributor but it doesn't look like that's happening. I would've thought they learned from their mistakes. I'm sure this has been a bad experience for her first movie but fingers crossed that a good distributor picks it up.

Is the studio about to go bankrupt?
35
BunyipPouchMar 23, 2026
+76
Yes unfortunately. :(
They started 6 months ago, made a big splash at TIFF, and now can't pay any bills and don't have cash-on-hand to promote/distribute this release. Apparently Maude's camp is *pissed*. Maude delivered the final cut in February but they are refusing to "accept" it so they can still hold on to the movie without releasing it yet.
They were banking on their first movie, **Dead Man's Wire**, to make a big chunk of money but it made none and started them off with a huge loss. Bummer because the movie was great and the theatrical ecosystem desperately needs new/good indie-distributors.
I do hope they get a cash infusion from somewhere and manage to stay afloat though.

Nepotism is not specific to Hollywood. It dominates in wrestling, its prevalent in politics, agriculture, etc. I still think the bigger story here is how little output the production company had and how quickly they're struggling. Maybe they were hoping to be bought out, idk. Bummer if people are gonna lose their jobs.

Does anyone know if Kevin Frakes is involved with Row K? I did a quick Google search on Row K which led me to an Instagram post by filmmaker Nick Leisure which I've tagged below. He shows a photo with Frakes, Raj Singh, and Chris Woodrow while specifically mentioning Frakes as a member of the team. If you dig deeper into Frakes, there are countless articles about him bullying employees, harassing Ari Aster while financing Hereditary, being in lawsuits with major celebrities and agencies, and even eviction notices. I wouldn't be surprised if Frakes was pulling the strings here behind closed doors. Frakes is also listed as an EP on Ice Cream Man which is a movie Singh and Woodrow are producing, so he's clearly in their circle. The IG post is linked below.

you’re going to be in for a real heartbreak when you find out just how much of hollywood is filled with nepo babies and familial connections. Even guys like the Tucker & Dale vs Evil directors, their mom is Sally Field. You’d be hard pressed to find someone who doesn’t have some sort of foot in the door in this industry
I agree it can be annoying but I still think nepotism is far more problematic in fields other than the arts. Think of banks, administrative offices, judicial systems, financial institutions, *government jobs*
2
fractalfayMar 23, 2026

There are nepo-hires throughout the business world, sure, but if you’re from a dynasty of doctors, you still have to get a medical degree. Even Dubya had to quit cocaine and be governor of texas for awhile. Hollywood is unique in that they’re destroying themselves through this circle-jerk of mediocrity. They’re the British monarchy. Let some unrelated blood in, guys.

Yeah, and it’s safe to assume people raised by and around great artists will be pretty good at art themselves. It’s not some conspiracy. It’s the way professions have worked since the beginning of professions. Last names were literally made to describe your family business

Should they be forced to? Absolutely not. Family businesses existed long before feudalism if you weren’t aware.
I’m talking basic logic. Someone raised by a master of a craft is probably going to be naturally better at the craft than someone who wasn’t. That’s just the way it works.
2
fractalfayMar 23, 2026

These things are not genetic. If they were, all that would need to take place for endless upward growth is procreation. Someone raised with a committed obsession is going to be better at their craft than someone who was raised to believe it is a birth rite.

Saw it at TIFF and although the plot was very frustrating imo.….guys Cooper Hoffman was really good in it. Like eerily good that I’m afraid to be invested in how his career will turn out. Cause yk some nepo babies just don’t pan out and considering who his father is, the expectation to be good must be a giant brick on his shoulders. That being said, I haven’t seen the other films he has been in but he’s definitely got potential.

I don’t inherently hate nepo babies. I think no matter how much privilege you’re born with, life and its obstacles are still challenging and everyone is still human with a human desire to chase something difficult in life and achieve it.
And I believe they deserve the opportunity to do that. But do they deserve to “cut the line” and not have to build the same level of career as their peers to survive in the industry? Well honestly probably not, but I’m not gonna sit over here and complain about it. A lot of non nepo babies probably break into the industry in similar “short cut” ways.
Now the issue I have is as a consumer who doesn’t specifically dislike nepo babies and wants to see the best product possible, I’m struggling to unlock the interest in seeing a nepo baby’s project over a creator who has infinitely more experience and depth in the field, you know?
I’m not hating. Just from a marketing perspective, I don’t want to see this movie over one made by a more established director. I guess Hollywood doesn’t care about changing my opinion on that, they’re just happy to sell the movie to those who want to see it, Maude and her dad’s Instagram followers, probably.
