I still want to know what the point of holding all of these people is. Isn’t their goal to deport them? Seems like they’re mostly just imprisoning people.

Bubbly-Two-3449 Mar 31, 2026 +183
The facilities are privately owned and the government is rewarding companies that made political donations to Trump's 2024 campaign with these contracts. DHS pays these companies huge sums, around $70k per incarcerated immigrant per year. The companies aren't in any rush to move them out, as it is profitable for them to hold as many as possible indefinitely.

ChebyshevsBeard Mar 31, 2026 +44
Cool, so we take people who were working and contributing to the economy and then instead pay Trump's buds 70k per year for those people to not contribute to the economy. Starting to understand how this guy bankrupted a c*****.
44
CheesypoofExtreme Mar 31, 2026 +24
>Cool, so we take people who were working and contributing to the economy and then instead pay Trump's buds 70k per year for those people to not contribute to the economy. You think they won't do anything with these people? They're almost certainly going to be turned into labor camps. We already utilize prisoners to perform, what is effectively, slave labor in the US today. There's no reason to think they won't do the same here.
24
Ananiujitha Mar 31, 2026 +5
Constitutionally, they're not supposed to enslave anyone who hasn't been convicted of a crime (such as using the bathroom), and these concentrationees haven't been convicted of anything.
5
Nearly_Pointless Mar 31, 2026 +7
Yep, he wants to take productive workers who pay taxes and contribute to SS, whom also buy goods and services out of the economy and then…. Here is the best part. House them at your expense so corporations can make money warehousing humans without any sort of plan for resolving their immigration status as they are reducing the immigration systems capacity to adjudicate.

Luckily we'll have a bunch of very large detention centers to put every single person who works at Oan News Fox Max.

There have been ICE agents who have admitted to raping women they have had in custody and video footage of them violently assaulting people they had detained who were doing what they told them to do. ICE agents have been shown to be violent and sadistic individuals and it wouldn't surprise me if they just want this so they have a whole bunch of victims they can be violent towards.

Maybe it's to prepare the US population for concentration camps?
826
DarkChaplain Mar 31, 2026 +1146
These ARE concentration camps. The Nazis began the same way. Originally, they still told people about gathering them for deportations, before that proved too bothersome to actually do and they figured it was easier to just industrialize the killing of unwanted people.
1146
mushpuppy Mar 31, 2026 +236
Yep. One of many things that suck? The number of members of Congress who, instead of standing up against this evil, are instead choosing not to run again. Like Pontius Pilate. Washing their hands. All it takes for evil to prevail is for good people to do nothing. Which of course overlooks that they're not good. As instead they continue voting for this conduct.
236
numbersthen0987431 Mar 31, 2026 +69
Everyone who implemented all of this shit, and then planning to not run again, are showing that they got everything they wanted. Everyone who is leaving now is just doing so to reward themselves by accomplishing everything they wanted.

13
GaimeGuy Mar 31, 2026 +64
and they didn't' go from deportation centers to death camps overnight. They instituted jobs for people to earn wages, at least temporarily, while they were being processed. Over time they started rationing food and supplies for the concentration camps to prioritize the warfronts and other areas. The "jobs" went from jobs to forced labor with no compensation at all to assist with the war effort. Experiments began being performed on prisoners because hey, why not? The human resources to perform studies and experiments were there. The dehumanization efforts that took place over years and years before the holocaust even began led to a situation where facilities gradually deteriorated to industrialized human extermination because no one recognized the victims as actual people or human beings anymore.
64
Ananiujitha Mar 31, 2026 +3
They've already started experimenting on prisoners.

Cheese__Weiner Mar 31, 2026 +4
>The Nazis began the same way. Originally, they still told people about gathering them for deportations, before that proved too bothersome to actually do and they figured it was easier to just industrialize the killing of unwanted people. You're right that the original idea was to deport people. One of the places they had in mind was Madagascar. Transporting that number of people, especially in those days, is insanely expensive and they found it was much cheaper and more efficient to just exterminate them. Remember Germany was still coming out of a major depression and had been paying out the ass from WWI so they were still quite a poor country.

Good thing that the us isnt coming out of several bad economic times while headed towards a worse one. Surely they wouldnt skimp on the treatment of the people they illegally detain
3

There currently 1 million black men in concentration camps in America.
16
Pointlessname123321 Mar 31, 2026 +29
Look. I’m not going to pretend that a lot of black and brown Americans aren’t victims of abuses from the criminal justice system. That system needs massive reform. But not everyone in a jail or prison got caught up in a broken system. Some people had a real trial with a real jury and a working system. That doesn’t mean everyone, but to claim all million African Americans in prison are illegally detained helps no one. I found an NPR article that puts half of all exonerations of African American defendants. But there were only 3200 total exonerations. I’m not a mathematician, but I’d guess a good 50,000-250,000 African Americans were probably false accusations. That’s an insanely high number of people serving time for something they didn’t do, but it’s not a million
29
MountNevermind Mar 31, 2026 +19
Are you aware that the incarceration rate in the US has gone from 176 per 100k in 1950 to around 541 per 100k today? Is it your position the nation requires 300% more people per capita in incarceration without it being a policy people have worked towards during that time and not against? Did you want to see if other nations have similar trends? (They don't) https://www.sentencingproject.org/reports/mass-incarceration-trends/ >In a global comparison, the United States remains a leader in per capita rates of incarceration. Though a handful of countries incarcerate a higher proportion of their population, the U.S. rate of incarceration is significantly higher than the rest of the world, including its closest neighbors, Canada and Mexico. That was achieved, not something that was always the case. We've gotten to the point corporations with better representation in government than anybody are profiting from it and under fiduciary responsibility to expand that profit.

45
Spaduf Mar 31, 2026 +40
Realistically that number is probably much much higher.
40
RazarTuk Mar 31, 2026 +26
Again, they still aren't death camps. The 6 death camps were even acknowledged by the Nazis as existing for the sole purpose of killing as many people as possible as efficiently as possible. Basically, concentration camps were ostensibly still work camps and where all the survivors come from, while death camps were the ones where they funneled you directly off the train and into a gas chamber

Who’s to say that it’s to deport people and not for political prisoners? There is a Supreme Court case this week to take on birthright citizenship. Yeah, you’re white, but your parents are democrats and aren’t true Americans. Stick you and your child in prison.

It would have been easy to take a quick look at the situation in Europe and reach the conclusion that you don't just need a deportee to deport someone, but also a country that takes them back, and that this is the real difficulty of it all. But no, by the eternal laws of American Exceptionalism it's forbidden and un-American to learn from others!

It's worth noting that the failure of the Germans to effectively deport Jews en masse (a la the Madagascar plan), so Ive heard, a big reason for the Final Solution. Having literal warehouses filled with people the State is actively trying to get rid of, but are unable to, is generally bad news.

Americans need to understand that unless they take a far more active role in resistance, they are going to be on the receiving end of a genocide by their own government. The US government is building a massive network of concentration camps. Multiple states are actively working on legislation to dehumanize and strip rights away from transgender people. Kentucky is working on passing legislation that declares that transgender people are mentally ill. Remember that pesky XO that says that mentally ill people can be locked up involuntarily? Hey did you know that these camps are being outfitted with huge incinerators for bio-waste? And multiple people in power have declared publicly that liberals are not human. Americans what are you doing? What are you waiting for?

It’s not even really they care about holding people. This is all a grift off the back of human suffering. Contract is given to a buddy to build it. Another contract is given to their sisters husbands company to run it, another contract is given to a donor to supply uniforms. On and on and on the pay offs and corruption goes, all so they can improve their already wealthy status by another 1%.
7

This is the actual answer. They're never going to hit those quotas, it's to get more money off the private prison complex
2
FrostyMatters Mar 31, 2026 +13
Genocide. This is how it starts. First people say "Deport them! Get them out of here! No big deal they can live somewhere else." Then they find out "Wow, deporting millions of people is really hard logistically." All it takes from there is someone in power to say "You know what would be much easier than deporting them, and save us a lot of hassle? It would literally solve all our problems forever. A final solution, if you will..."

ExcellentJuice4729 Mar 31, 2026 +3
Detaining ppl for an indeterminate amount of time creates the conditions to force them out, or at least cause great suffering (which is their true goal). I’d imagine many could lose their livelihoods or families being forced away for so long—employers lose their patience, child protective services get involved, etc.
3
Waste-Gene-7793 Mar 31, 2026 +3
The Nazis made the same promises and did the same thing. Remember that the killings didn’t start with gas chambers, they started with the state deciding it wasn’t worth the money to feed them adequately.

3
GregMoffTarkin Mar 31, 2026 +3
Because the country you're deporting them to needs to take them, You need to prove where they "belong". You can't just drop planeloads random people into another country (just like other countries can't just drop planeloads of random people here) without starting major international conflicts. So holding them is just "easier"....then, enventually, once holding them is too inconvenient or expensive, they'll move to exterminating them. That's how the concentration camps of the holocaust turned to death camps.

elbenji Mar 31, 2026 +2
The detention centers have existed forever, they're just building bigger ones for quotas. They kind of operate as holding jails for migrants similar to your county jail but worse conditions When they go to court and get deported, then they're sent on those flights to somewhere else. So if someone gets deported, they'd go to the center, ran through the system, see a judge, then put on a flight to wherever they're sending
2
Zman734 Mar 31, 2026 +2
Deporting a person takes time. You can't just put someone on a plane to a country if they don't have the proper documentation to be allowed in. That can take months, even years.

Standing outside the Marine boot camp graduation so you can arrest family members of brave young men and women who are signing up to defend us is shameful. Has this turned into a business like prisons in America where more bodies are lucrative?
22
Stereo-soundS Mar 31, 2026 +16
Yes.  And having his friends get no-bid contracts for construction, same as the ballroom bullshit.

More Concentration camps, it’s almost like they’re planning to concentrate more than just immigrants.

Only--East Mar 31, 2026 +7
I'm starting to think its more of a money-in-pockets thing right now. People are getting paid to run these centers and people love getting paid.

terrorrier Mar 31, 2026 +16
We do not have tens of thousands of problem people. People are good. People should be protected.
16
Zardotab Mar 31, 2026 +2
>We do not have tens of thousands of problem people.  Yes we do: Trump voters. Still, I don't wish to actually lock them up, although it is tempting.
2

So open the doors to everyone in the world? Bring in 500 more million people?

The Germans, in the 1930s, built the first concentration camps near large German cities. This turned out to be hugely unpopular, by the people not (yet) in those camps. Shortly after they moved the camps into occupied territories. Expect the US to aggressively try to occupy new land from neighbors, to build more camps. This wall, paid for by the Mexicans, won't stop this /s

Zardotab Mar 31, 2026 +2
So more CECOTs, including new ones in Venezuela.
2
DarkChaplain Mar 31, 2026 +9
Back in the day, here in Germany, they would call it a "concentration camp", before finally losing their masks and turning it into a full-on termination camp.
9
Boundish91 Mar 31, 2026 +12
Over on this side of the pond we call them concentration camps. Because that's what they are.
12
Vann_Accessible Mar 31, 2026 +11
PSA: please refer to concentration camps as concentration camps. It shouldn’t be considered political to call a thing by its name, and referring to these camps as detention centers only serves to minimize the cruelty and support their existence.

SyntheticSins Mar 31, 2026 +19
If you were planning on genociding massive levels of your population, would you do anything different?

Dachau is a town located in Upper Bavaria, in the southern part of Germany. It is situated approximately 20 kilometers (12 miles) northwest of Munich. The town is best known as the site of the first regular Nazi concentration camp, which was opened in 1933 and was in operation until 1945.

For comparisson. Nazi-germany's first official concentration camp (Dachau) had at first a capacity of 5 thousand. After Crystal Night it housed 11 thousand Jews. At this time they to were officially promoted as deportation camps, and that all German Jews were illegal immigrants. You never create 10k camps for deportation. Ever.
14
kostac600 Mar 31, 2026 +6
it is another MAGA version of a concentration camp

I don’t understand how Americans don’t see the writing on the wall. He signed an executive order to strip birth citizenship. He’s building deportation centres large enough to process thousands of people daily, each. He’s collected, through corruption and collusion, all the personal information needed to identify and categorize people by their likelihood to support him and vote for him. (Hi DOGE & Supreme Court.) He’s installed ICE in major centres and airports and trained them to kidnap and displace individuals. (Hi Good and Pretti.) He’s actively worked with other governments in building the people pipelines need to remove them from the country. (Hi Kilmar.) Americans, what do you think is happening? You think this is just about profiteering? Your country is stage 4 terminal.
14
Mountain_Reveal7849 Mar 31, 2026 +12
No shit, thanks for telling us what we already know. You have any of those solutions?
12
brahbocop Mar 31, 2026 +9
100%. What can we do? The problem with any society is that you're only as good as your dumbest people. What this administration was going to do was clear as day, yet people voted for him in record numbers.
9
dvanha Mar 31, 2026 +5
Are you sure they did? A person's golf game says a lot about them.

Without saying the actual name of what is being defined by a dictionary: NOUN a guarded compound for the mass detention without hearings or the imprisonment without trial of civilians, as refugees, members of ethnic minorities, political opponents, etc. (I will leave it as an exercise for the reader to figure out what I just defined)
3
Major-Worker6364 Mar 31, 2026 +4
And when all the immigrants are deported, who will be next for these concentration camps?
4
ACAB007 Mar 31, 2026 +4
So they can r*** more children?
4
Powerful_Resident_48 Mar 31, 2026 +4
Like a big camp? To concentrate people?
4
Tomusina Mar 31, 2026 +3
it won’t be just immigrants.
3
Spamgrenade Mar 31, 2026 +3
Planning this I would Immediately be thinking of the toilet situation. Those places have the capacity to deal with 10 000 peoples waste? What's the plumbing like? But what would I know not being a professional concentration camp architect.
3
CitizenBroccoli Mar 31, 2026 +4

I’m sure that a city who’s having water problems already loves this idea.
3
hodorhodor12 Mar 31, 2026 +3
I guarantee that at least one mass grave will be discovered years from now at one of these ICE sites because of the abuse due to lack of monitoring. This will be a huge stain on our history among the many stains that are happening now.
3
Dr_Insano_MD Mar 31, 2026 +3
So ICE is building a large facility to keep specific groups of people concentrated in a single area? If only there was a word for that.
3
reddit_understoodit Mar 31, 2026 +3
We are just warehousing people now this sounds like the holocaust.
3

Ah yes, cultural melting pot Salt Lake City. I don’t think I saw a minority the entire time I worked there.
8
PeaceLovess Mar 31, 2026 +3
Mormon land authorized this? Sounds on par with their racist rhetoric.
3
Soupfolder Mar 31, 2026 +4
Actually, no. “Mormon land” did not authorize it. The warehouse was owned by a Delaware limited liability company and sold to the DHS. The mayor of Salt Lake City is very vocally opposed to it. She was not even told ahead of time about the sale. And most people in Salt Lake City are likewise opposed.

Tremolat Mar 31, 2026 +2
On New Year's Eve, DHS posted [this](https://x.com/DHSgov/status/2006472108222853298) featuring a tropical beach and blue sky with the words: "America after 100 Million Deportations". That's 1/3 of the population. Officially the plan.

Striker40k Mar 31, 2026 +2
Remember when conservatives were shitting their pants saying Obama was turning warehouses into detention centers? Pepperidge Farms members
2
Cactusfan86 Mar 31, 2026 +2
People fear concentration camps for citizens, but the reason is far more benign in my opinion: corruption.  Look at how much money that shithole alligator Alcatraz cost, these private prisons are a perfect way to disappear money into the ‘right’ pockets.  Most of these warehouses will go unused and never see a prisoner, but their builders will make millions
2
queefjars Mar 31, 2026 +2
Article says 10,000 sqft building (about 3-4 houses), and then shows a one million square foot building (100x bigger) in the picture.
2
Jeremisio Mar 31, 2026 +2
Mega center or MAGA center where we just hold all of MAGA there?
2
Gtw67 Mar 31, 2026 +2
No ICE!
2
Upstairs_Emu9090 Mar 31, 2026 +2
Every time I see a new one of these posts about a new detention center opening I'm going to make the same comment these detention facilities are not just for immigrants they are intending to lock up US citizens who they deem to be against the government or people who refuse to join the draft.
2
got-trunks Mar 31, 2026 +2
