Why does everyone just normalize dropping nukes. Like there’s no coming back once you open that box. Edit: Sorry that was a rhetorical question, but i appreciate everyone’s response. Especially the really stupid ones.

Illustrious-Peace989 6 days ago +922
Hiroshima by John Hersey should be mandatory reading in schools. I think a lot of people can’t grasp the idea that a nuclear weapon isn’t just a really big bomb and need a graphic education of what happens to people.
922
Simple_Dimple-01 6 days ago +420
Threads from 1984 too, it's a movie made by the BBC and with a high level of accuracy as to what would happen after a nuclear attack... spoiler alert, its horrific, and if anyone could be in support of such actions after watching, they're a psychopath.
420
GamingGems 6 days ago +159
That movie is traumatizing, by which I mean it’s brilliant and accomplished exactly what it needed to. The nukes are honestly the least horrific part of the whole movie, it’s everything after that gets you. These evangelical lunatics think nukes will only kill nonbelievers or those who didn’t pray and vote red enough, and that they’ll be okay in the new Garden of Eden if they just buy enough buckets of Jim Baker’s shelf stable pancakes.
159
nquesada92 6 days ago +41
No, they don't believe it will spare their lives but dying such allows them to enter into the kingdom of heaven. Which is scarier than thinking the weapons won't kill them or only the target of their hate.

And that's why they're every bit as terrifying as death-cult Islamic extremists. They pray for a "righteous" death.

I knew about it for years but just watched it last week. It proves my theory that the only salvation in nuclear holocaust is to be incinerated instantly Edit: thankful im within 20miles of a military base

Let me tag on to say this book [Nuclear War by Annie Jacobsen](https://www.audible.com/pd/B0CF6R3R7W?source_code=ASSORAP0511160006&share_location=library_overflow) Is eye opening just how ugly Pandora’s box will and can get, and how utterly fast our world would change as we know it.
70
A_dot_Burr 6 days ago +25
This book is all I can think about today. Around 30 minutes for the whole world to go up in smoke. How are we supposed to do anything today?!
25
Greedy_Heron_3034 5 days ago +8
I read this book not so long ago. Also watched Threads many years ago. Think everyone should at least watch the film to understand the devastation nukes will cause once that line has been crossed.
8
notashark1 6 days ago +17
From what I heard, Reagan saw it and that caused him to want to ban nuclear weapons. Every president has been horrified by what they can do until we got to Trump.
17
Partymouth2 6 days ago +15
That was The Day After, the US equivalent.  https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Day_After Both films should be required watching of anyone who wants to be a world leader.
15
mzpip 5 days ago +6
There's also *Special Bulletin* which saves the nukes to the end but is still pretty eye opening. I was involved in the anti nuke movement in Toronto in the late 80s and read all the information available at the time. Also saw films like *If You Love This Planet,* and it was terrifying then, just as it's terrifying now. Also *When the Wind Blows* is an animated film about the aftermath. Available online and well worth watching. And this woman is a f****** idiot.

I think it was… an anime called Barefoot Gen(?) which showed the bombing, immediate reaction, and the after effects. It is horrifying and graphic, you see people vaporize, burning houses collapsing trapping half a family inside, people being abandoned, I mean just so much f****** horror. I think every high school senior should be forced to watch this. No one should be under any illusions that nuclear weapons are no f****** joke, and they’re 100x more powerful now.
58

America's two information spaces are leading us toward this possibility. We don't occupy the same reality, or we act like we don't. Republicans are hell bent on a world war, and their swath of America refuses to contemplate their own folly.

The half a family is the worst one for me. The kid inside screaming for her mother, the mother completely incapable of forcing herself to go inside the burning building to get her. I was a changed person after knowing about that. edit: this story was from a documentary I saw whose name escapes me, not from the one mentioned in the parent comment
6
mlatu315 6 days ago +10
Not as graphic and not based off of real events in the way barefoot gen is, but when the wind blows is also a pretty powerful movie about the aftermath of a nuclear bomb. An elderly British couple survive it thinking it will be like the bombings of the Second World War and don’t prepare for fallout or radiation poisoning instead going about their lives as normally as possible as they slowly get sicker and sicker.
10
occaisionallyimqwert 6 days ago +42
Tsar bomba sent radiation around the globe and a shockwave many times over, detected by seismographs all over the world. That shit is no joke.  All of the people cheering on a nuclear attack, forgets about mutually assured destruction. Violence begets more violence.
42
GamingGems 6 days ago +22
Yes, I fully expected people who voted for Trump who believe everything he touches turns to gold to understand consequences to every action and the concept of MAD.
22
Competitive_Bank6790 6 days ago +7
That was overkill. A megaton weapon or 3 475 kiloton warheads are more than enough to destroy most cities.
7
noonday_moon 6 days ago +13
One of my professors in college showed Barefoot Gen in class - that was effective, to say the least.
13
RunBrundleson 6 days ago +73
It isn’t even what happens to people. It would be all the other nukes that go flying afterwards that is more of a concern.
73
Ctrl-Alt-Q 6 days ago +51
No, it's definitely both. Both the immediate horror and fall out after the fact are suffering beyond most peoples' imagination. A second-hand glimpse of even the echo of that pain at Hiroshima was enough to convince me that it should never happen again.
51
Any_Narwhal_4437 6 days ago +8
Little Boy and Fat Man were significantly less powerful than the nukes we have today too. We're all going to WISH it was a 1940s nuke if the modern nukes go.
8
MurtaghInfin8 5 days ago +4
Made a post on fb about this: history going to be putting Trump and Truman on the same pages of the history books, and the ratio of US soldiers spared VS civilians killed ratios is going to be monstrously better for Truman, whether you support what Truman did or not, I don't envy his position in the slightest, but the arithmetic is at least compelling. Here, we could have had 0 US casualties and 0 Iranian civilian deaths. Iran: US: gotta nuke you for existing because you don't have the means to protect yourself. Sorry bout it, praise Allah.

because we've done it before and they view the lives of people other than white as expendable
69
chumbawumbathefirst 6 days ago +31
This and plain, pure ignorance. They haven't even updated their idea of what a nuclear weapon is from an entirely outdated generation of the weapons - the ones we have now have not been used on civilians before, and they're much stronger, so even the horrors of the past probably don't fully suggest what the effects of these bombs would be.
31
GuardiaNIsBae 6 days ago +10
The last time it was done there weren't 8 other countries with them, 3 of them being direct enemies to the US and the US' allies regretting being their ally more and more each day. If a nuke gets dropped on Iran its basically open season for China to take Taiwan, Russia to use nukes in EU, North Korea to hit South Korea, Japan, or US islands, then whatever it is Pakistan and India want to do to each other in the background while the UK and France need to figure out their plan.
10
gpost86 5 days ago +2
They also think because it's on the other side of the world that it will have no effect on them. There will be so much fallout, nuclear and otherwise, from it they don't even realize it.

Best case scenario, we would be instant global pariahs on par with North Korea and there would be a worldwide depression as gathering country liquidates their US assets. Worst case scenario, a second nuke gets dropped. These people would rather rule over ashes than participate in a functional democracy.
8
Gooch222 6 days ago +266
She means there is no evil greater than being a democrat. It’s the biggest, most important message the propaganda outlets sell, and convincing their viewers of it means all Republican candidates, no matter how flawed, are beyond scrutiny.

The fact that 1 out of 3 people have been programmed to believe this through decades of intentional media is why we’re doomed to stay in this loop. Days of political compromise and shared objectives are beyond dead. You’re considered a traitor to the cause if you acknowledge the other side has even a shred of credibility.
85

Because we were founded on racism and have never dealt with it. As Lyndon Johnson observed: "If you can convince the lowest white man he's better than the best colored man, he won't notice you're picking his pocket. Hell, give him somebody to look down on, and he'll empty his pockets for you". American politics have been based on this since the very idea of America. Trump could r*** her kids and she's still on board. This is cult mentality.

Just saying it out loud now, Megyn? Pathethic amoral parasites. Like political affiliation regardless of what actions are actually taken is the only thing that matters in the world. These people are disgusting.

Obvious-Lake3708 5 days ago +3
They look down their nose at you while she looks down her nose at everyone else. The f****** projection of these people

harbison215 5 days ago +4
This is why nobody should take people like this seriously and they shouldn’t be engaged. Their opinions are worthless and it’s a waste of time and effort to have any kind of interaction with them.

Somebody tell this braindead attention seeker that Iran doesn't have nukes and can't nuke us or anyone else.

If this isn't Evil, what is?
3
Signiference 6 days ago +3
Yeah, we know you’re also a traitor to the US, Megyn, you don’t need to keep saying it.
3
victorpaparomeo2020 6 days ago +3
Trump could anally r*** her kids and she’d still vote for him.
3
rogerwilcove 6 days ago +3
She’d never leave her kids in a room with Trump if she had to be honest about it. But that’s the benefit of being on the MAGA grift - maximum dishonesty.
3
Sweet-Beautiful6076 6 days ago +3
Of course she would, she’s a soulless pig, so…

B**** shut up and go away!

Yes, Megyn, we know you are a shitty, horrible person. No need to remind us.
3

I don’t get confessing that you’re a inhumane, mouth-breathing idiot. But whatever works for you, Megan.
3
EnvironmentalLock440 6 days ago +3
She really is a piece of shit.

These people are PARASITES. They’ve traded their consciences for the easy life of being a parasite feeding on the anger/confusion/resentment they draw from others. They find fulfillment in celebrating other’s failings and death.

Megyn Kelly: "I could watch trump r*** a toddler on Fifth Ave and I'd vote republican as the ambulance was taking her away."

Yup and that is why we refer to that side as a cult
3

WHO CARES ABOUT HER
3
AdLogical5805 6 days ago +3
Can’t figure out why she got canned from tv for low ratings , perhaps she’s bled out so much since she moderated Trump’s debate way back when that her brain has officially died
3
29187765432569864 6 days ago +3
Hitler would hire her to be his spokesperson.
3
derpferd 6 days ago +3
I don't understand this kind of voting. Are you voting for the good of the country or the good of the party? What kind of patriot are you if you prize party over country no matter the circumstances?
3
ywingpilot4life 6 days ago +3
What a horrible human being. At what point does she just admit that she enjoys playing the villain because it keeps her relevant/paid?
3
mrshelenroper 6 days ago +3
He could r*** her daughter in front of her and she’d campaign for him.
3
Bohottie 6 days ago +3
So republicans go from “A vote for Kamala is a vote for war” to “I don’t care if Trump drops a nuke.” Republicans are not serious people at this point.
3
BadBunny4Prezzie 6 days ago +3
I mean this is simply announcing the obvious. Republicans are evil, and have been, so why would we think more evil would change your evil minds?
3
Maleficent-Emu2904 6 days ago +3
that isn’t the flex she thinks it is.
