It's going to be hard to defend against this when they've specifically researched and honed algorithms to maximise social media addiction for everyone, including kids. Every social media platform has.

This is honestly shocking but deeply exciting.

If they are forced to simply put a notification every time you open an app that their product is a highly addictive pile of algorithm’s and you have to acknowledge that I believe it will start to turn this shit around. We have to start somewhere.

It should open with" the best move you can take right now is to close the app, it been proven to harm mental health". I would open the app at leadt once a day to look at the message...lol. Just to know I made a good decision in 2009.

You know it's hella addictive when after sixteen years someone is still thinking about "just once a day"

I'll save everyone the suspense. They'll pay a paltry fine and recoup it a day later whilst changing nothing about the way they operate.

Don’t count on it. This could be on scale with tobacco, especially when considering punitive damages. New Mexico—the 36th most populous state—had a jury hit Meta with a $375 million verdict a couple weeks back. If verdicts these size (and bigger) start becoming more common, Meta will change.

Does this mean Zuck could lose his billionaire status?

Next they are going after Roblox. C’mon people- don’t blame others for your failure to parent.

Why dont parents get charged with child neglect or endangerment if this is the case? Theres PARENTAL CONTROLS on everything nowadays

The most recent trial against Meta and Google shows via their own internal documents that parental controls do essentially nothing. Meta conducted a study called “Project MYST” and found that it really didn’t matter what parents did- enforce their own household rules, use the company’s parental controls, a combination of both, etc- kids will inevitably become addicted to these apps. These companies know the harm they are causing, and continue to profit off of it. Edited to change spelling of study (mist to MYST), and to link an article with more info: [Project MYST info](https://techcrunch.com/2026/02/17/metas-own-research-found-parental-supervision-doesnt-really-help-curb-teens-compulsive-social-media-use/)

Okay, first of all, did Meta communicate the reality that their apps were designed to be addictive to their customers? No, they did not. They concealed that information, which is a highly unethical scheme. So, you're pretending like the parents are responsible for getting lied to and scammed by Meta? No, they're not. Meta is responsible... The company should be broken up and deleted because they refused to maintain the quality of their sites, allowing them to turn into illegal prostitution sites for minors.

Yeah, ban oxygen because it’s algorithmically addictive, designed to drive outrage engagement, then designed to radicalize and indoctrinate. Get the f*** out of here with that shit.

Well, Casinos do crank up the O2 level to keep people jazzed and spending. There's no doubt they make bank on extra o2 boosting gambling addiction.

Waste of time when the 'penalty' will amount to $3.50 and they keep on trucking.

There are currently 3,400 cases pending litigation, and the first case awarded $6million. It’s definitely a drop in the bucket for them, but over time, it will add up!
