If it was touring to raise money that’s one thing but to hold? Frida would be livid.

Just saw this collection at the Mexico Museum of Modern Art and they were beautiful. They don’t belong to anyone else but the Mexican people and I think they should stay here. If Europeans wanna see them so bad come to Mexico and make the effort.

> They don’t belong to anyone else but the Mexican people
This a part of the collection that was amassed by Jacques and Natasha Gelman, prominent Russian-Jewish art collectors, which was recently bought by the Zambrano family in 2023 and is currently managed by the Fundación Banco Santander.
Mexican laws prohibit their movement but legally they do belong to someone.

Or, you know, like most highly appreciated artworks, they can tour them occasionally.

Not counting this dumbass, the actual article is about how it is unclear whether the Spanish museum will hold them indefinitely

But Spain would *surely* respect Mexico's request to return important pieces of art and culture, right?

When has a country held and keep a piece of art that's on tour? Genuinely curious if this is a thing that happens.

We want to see them without risking our lives visiting the third world.

Well, unless Mexico was part of NATO, it is a “third-world” country.
First World: US Aligned (NATO) capitalist countries
Second World: Warsaw communist countries
Third world: the rest

It doesn’t work like that anymore…

Are you sure? Why don’t you google the origin of the name? I used to work at the IFC where the term was coined

Then why is Austria a first-world country while not in NATO?
What you think about are the definitions during the Cold War coined in 1952 by Alfred Sauvy.
The IFC itself replaced that outdated framing.

I’m not saying it’s right or wrong, valid or invalid, or if the categorization meet MECE MBB criteria.
People are butthurt and have no idea why or if they should.

Instead of getting mad with Spain perhaps Mexico should be looking inward at the Mexicans that seems fine with this and signed off on this deal to occur.

That's literally what it says they're doing in the second paragraph of the article.
