I would kill, ravage, and pillage entire towns just to see Tom Holland use his pure ballet skills in a film. The small clips of him dancing out there aren't enough, and I'm confident that he would be amazing due to his work ethic.

He did an interview with Matthew McConaughey and made a comment about how he didn’t want to be in a dying art like opera or ballet that had to justify its existence because “no one” cares about them anymore.

He had a fairly nuanced take about ballet and opera and concerns over movies going that way and it got clipped into oblivion that he was shit talking those mediums.
For the record, I don’t think Reddit largely hates those comments, he’s actually defended for it. They do seem to suddenly hate him for unrelated, nebulous reasons (maybe dating a kardashian). Of course now that he didn’t win I imagine they’ll be back to liking him in a few days.
15

It wasn't just on Reddit. You might be just on Reddit but. It's blown up on other platforms and a lot of celebrities have posted their takes. I'm not expressing an opinion on his statement I'm just so confused that everyone in this thread thinks it's solely a Reddit thing. It was in the newspaper in my city. A random ass city in Canada.

let it go man, he didn’t have a nuanced take and people took issue with his 14 cents comment. it’s a cringe thing for an entertainer/artist to say, but anyway he’ll be fine once he gets out of the limelight for a bit
-8
Plane_MassiveMar 16, 2026
+12
“Let it go” they asked a question and I answered lmao. His family has a background in ballet. The 14 cents comment was not the part that was widely reported, it was the statement about nobody caring. Which is not what he was saying. It was poorly phrased maybe, but he clearly meant he doesn’t want movies to become a thing where you have to beg to keep them alive that lose mass cultural relevance in the way ballet and opera have.

The other piece of context I think we should add is that after he made he shitty comment he said something like “I just lost 14 cents in viewership” and some folks are pissed because it reduced the audience to just money.
I think the money comment is grosser than the opera/ballet comment but if I’m being realistic, most of Hollywood probably views their audience this way. He just said the quiet part out loud.
Edit: I also think sinners was just a better movie and deserved the Oscar, I don’t think chalamet had it.

As someone who studied acting for a couple decades, “playing yourself” is the modern style of acting. You play an imaginary version of yourself under the circumstances of the character. MBJ does an excellent job of bringing real authenticity, emotional honesty, and nuance to his roles. I don’t think he’s a generation-defining actor, but he is a very capable actor with a fantastic body of work.

Personally, my favorite was Jesse Plemmons. I love MBJ but IMO he’s had better performances and some of his cast mates in Sinners outperformed him. That said, I don’t like it when ppl say that someone isn’t worthy of an award. This was a year where all the nominees were occupied by genuine talent. I wouldn’t be mad at anyone winning. His peers seem to think that he deserved it. So relax.

I agree with that sentiment. I thought the performance was really good, don’t know if it was Oscar worthy.
The momentum of Sinners and the challenge in the duality of the roles is most likely what got into this decision.

It’s not like he wasn’t excellent in the movie - but the characters he’s playing in Sinners aren’t all that deep. This feels more like an Oscar for his general excellence in the field, rather than for anything specific to the film.

It reeks of People's Choice Award. There's no reason Sinners is in the same conversation with Bugonia or Sentimental Value. And that's not to knock the film. I enjoyed it. But you're telling me the depth of Jordan's acting was on a greater level than Leo's? I mean, come on.

I kind of half-watched Sinners, So I thought maybe my assessment was wrong, but when I heard it was getting this much buzz and won Best Actor, I was shocked. When the final vampire vs normie scene happened I thought I was at the end of the second act. I was excited for the grand finish to the story, as you would during a Marvel movie, and then there's a 2 minute lake sequence and the movie is over.
