I am very curious what this movie does and does not cover

It stars his nephew playing him, so probably not a ton

It’s approved by the estate, any scenes related to the accusations are gonna paint those children so evilly

Honestly don’t know how you make that part of the movie without just ignoring it. It’s such a huge part of his story but you can’t make a heroic story where the hero sleeps in the same bed as a bunch of underage boys even if you’re trying to say he didn’t do anything else wrong.

It reportedly originally included them significantly in the back half but was recut due to legal agreements with a victim about dramatizations of the story or something to that effect IIRC

the_angry_austinite Apr 2, 2026 +3
Yeah they basically had to reshoot the last half of the movie. Crazy!

So you might not know this but they aren’t allowed to talk about the case in this movie because it was part of the settlement. They actually delayed this movie because they didn’t know about that and had to change the movie.

Oh now I remember this. Part of the settlement of the original lawsuit was that it was never to be made into a reenactment or dramatized in any way, and the estate actually forgot about this.

Oh man that’s right.

I swear some of you live in an alternate reality sometimes. There's no way they would ever paint the children as evil for f***'s sake. At best they will barely skim over it and that'll be it.

LunaWabohu Apr 3, 2026 +2
The Jackson Estate have consistently painted them as evil so that's why people think that
2
JohnWesternburg Apr 3, 2026 +1
But it's a mainstream movie, people gotta get real too, they won't make the kids evil if they don't want to stir even more controversy
1
SpazzBro Apr 3, 2026 +1
I’m legit curious how the f*** they try to paint children as evil

LunaWabohu Apr 3, 2026 +1
They say they're doing it for money, because MJ is an easy target (the fact everyone still defends him when he admitted to sleeping in bed with little boys and he's still one of the biggest artists ever so clearly he's not an easy target) and all other kinds of insane c***

Johnoplata Apr 2, 2026 +3
Like any movie that is by approval of the estate, it will be a shiny glowing portrait of an artist that will, at most, hint at some controversy but show redemption.

A lot of singing and dancing, no alleged pedophilia

mg10pp Apr 2, 2026 +1
The first movie in theory should go from 1969 to 1987

Probably a similar to the Freddie Mercury movie

Couldnotbehelpd Apr 2, 2026 +8
Was a large part of Freddy Mercury’s legacy shadowed by the fact that he was repeatedly accused of sexual abuse against minors, and freely admitted to sleeping next to children in the same bed?

I think Oscar bait musical biopics that whitewash and sanitize the legacy of the subject artist(s) is my least favorite genre of movie.

If only we had gotten Sacha Baron Cohen's version of Bohemian Rhapsody

$55M+ opening for a musical biopic is actually insane... shows how timeless his impact still is.

1bryantj Apr 2, 2026 +8
I mean I think as far as famous people go he’s the biggest ever music artist

Newone1255 Apr 3, 2026 +1
MJ, Elvis, The Beatles, & Frank Sinatra is the Mount Rushmore of most famous musicians of the modern age.

It’s all cause of Larenz Tate the king of musical biopics

ElCoyote_AB Apr 2, 2026 +7

I would say I'm surprised people overlook his personal life and choices but then remember who the president of the US is.

Oh, it'll make a billion, easily. The elephant in the room will be whether it evens goes near the allegations but because it only covers his early career, I doubt it.

plsgivemehugs Apr 2, 2026 +5
They originally did but due to the settlement with one of the victims they had to cut all of that stuff out.
5
mg10pp Apr 2, 2026
It will be a problem for the second movie, which in theory they have already shot
