>After the pledge, DK said that a teacher told the class that “anyone that was sitting down was being very disrespectful to soldiers, to America”. DK said she tried to explain her view to the instructor but was told that if she did not like the US, she should go back to her own country. DK later left the room in tears. Always amazed that they use soldiers as an excuse for this without a hint of self-awareness.

They f****** *love* the “leave America” line. Even if it’s used towards a born-and-raised-American.

The most American thing you can possibly do is question, criticize, and hold the government and our politicians accountable. Anyone who disagrees with that…they should leave.

They don’t like it when their dogwhistles and bad faith arguments are spun back on them

And yet they kept their own asses parked here all during the long years when the man they dubbed "the antichrist" was president.

I stopped standing for the pledge when they added "Texas, One State Under God" to our second pledge we had to say growing up. For the most part, nobody bothered me about it, except this one dumbfuck hyperchristian woman who taught my speech class. Forcing children to stand with their hands over their hearts to pledge allegiance to a flag is *nazi shit*

Wait, Texas has it’s own Pledge of Allegiance and its performed every morning like the American Pledge?

Never been to Texas? I grew up further west but spent time in Texas and it really is like another country! As my Dad always says "That's a place where Cops have the mirror on the inside of their sunglasses".

It's funny you should say that, because they \_used\_ to do it while performing the ~~Bessamy~~ Bellamy salute.

Nobody who thinks you can legally compel speech should be running a school. The Supreme Court case is very famous, West Virginia State Board of Education v. Barnette (1943). https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/West_Virginia_State_Board_of_Education_v._Barnette

>As a part of the recent settlement, the Plymouth-Canton community schools district has pledged to provide diversity, sensitivity, and first amendment training for staff. The district has also agreed not to punish DK, remove any indication from school files that suggest her protest was inappropriate and provide needed counseling.

Should be firing the teacher too....

Should be bare minimum. Telling a child your in a position of power over to go back to her own country?! That's verbal and mental abuse.

I personally always say f*** the troops. I have military family members and that still hasn’t changed my opinion. I can’t name a single time in my life after seeing every war since 1990 where the troops have protected my freedom. It’s just about hegemony and government interests. It’s even more upsetting cause my family are all immigrants and some of them truly bought into that bullshit while many others have dedicated themselves to teaching or healthcare or true service of our country. I believe in serving your community but when people start to hit me with “disrespecting the troops” you lost me.

Bitches who don’t allow the free and vocal criticism of the ruling party should go back to their own shithole country and stay there. Or wait, she was born here? Then ban her from interacting with children and put her on a terrorist watch list.
