Where's a fame-starved, mega-billionaire who wants to hog all the glory for himself when you need him?
>The regional environment ministry said the scheme to save the whale, which is being co-financed by the equestrian event organiser Karin Walter-Mommert, bore full responsibility for the operation’s success or failure.
I don't know what an equestrian event organizer is. I'm guessing polo or dressage. Regardless, I wish them all the best.

NO, you pleb. An equestrian event organizer, is who horses go to to help plan and carry out their dream wedding.

That's really funny. Maybe someone better than me will draw this, or maybe I'll doodle it poorly but it's a joke worthy of a comic I think

Common misconception, you are describing an equine event planner

Unfortunately, the best in this case would be to let the animal die.
For those unawares, this whale has been stranded for about three weeks. It was already sick when it got stranded in the first place. In those three weeks, multiple rescue attempts have been made, and they did manage to guide him back to deeper water -- only for the whale to strand itself again.
At this point, this whale is *severely* weakened. Actual experts and conservationists have all said that this animal is too weak to be returned to the sea. And they've tried everything to get that animal back into the water. At some point, more attempts, especially by people who do not actually understand anything about whales, are just going to inflict more agony and stress on this animal, not save it.

Seems there should be more protections from causing more stress and discomfort for the whale in these rescue attempts.

Or because 8+ billion people want cooked food, heated shelter from the cold, cooled shelter from the heat, and men wanted [words 5 and 6 in your comment].

I mean, those are not entirely separate from greed. It's not about an individual normal human being greedy, it's about those that have the power and control decisions at a scale that matters being greedy and shortsighted.
The world could have more than enough food and an ample amount of renewable energy for heating/cooling/cooking, it's not some technologically infeasible ask. Hell, in America alone you could replace half the ethanol crop with actual food for humans and then replace the other half with solar panels that produce actually useful energy. That would pretty much take care of both and that's not even getting into the sheer amount of wasted food already produced.
Not really gonna comment on your last point cause I'm pretty sure most humans want to f*** to some degree lol.

I am confused by greenpeace being against trying; it seems to me that you really should at least try

They have been trying, is the thing.
This whale has been stuck for almost three weeks at this point. In that period, they managed to free him/guide him back to deeper waters, only for him to beach himself again. At this point, this poor whale is severely weakened. The reason Greenpeace and other conservation groups are against it is because they feel at this point it's just prolonging the end, and causing the whale more stress/pain.
Like, even if they'd get him unstuck again, not only is there no guarantee he won't beach himself again, but even if he managed to stay away from the beach entirely, there is no guarantee he'd even survive anymore.

Greenpeace’s point is it’s dying. Let it die.

Because they removed their feeling from it and are telling let nature do its thing.
Whales and other like animals don’t intentionally strand themselves. It’s weak and trying to waste as little energy breathing. Swimming takes up a lot of it. If it were a dolphin, smaller whale or porpoise, you could help it get the proper care that unfortunately is not available to a large whale. The whale is tired and ready to die. This whale has been freed a few times and returning.
If anyone ever sees a stranded animal, dont put it back into the water. Call 1-877-whale-help. The act of kindness in this case is causing more harm.

One side wants to save this one whale without doing anything to keep the rest of them healthy so they don't keep doing this
The other side greenpeace wants to ignore this one whale because it's probably going to die, but wants to help keep all the other whales safe
My guess is no one, not even greenpeace will keep the rest of the whales safe from noise and these changes in feeding locations due to climate change, and this whale will probably die. The electronics retail CEO funding the rescue will have had his moment of looking good before it disappears from the news cycle ( he might even be a good person and just cares about this whale, I don't know)
