If local cops kidnapped someone like this, people would be in handcuffs already. Federal badge shouldn’t be a magic shield. At minimum, every joint task force should have a clear, public memorandum on custody and notification rules.

yeah exactly *none* of this is normal. My heart goes out to all Americans here. I will say that, watching this corruption from afar has been heartbreaking - and it does mean something to see people standing up against this kind of fuckery. Good on you people of Minnesota.

It's not just federal badge. It's political immunity. They face no consequences for even the most violent, criminal, sadistic actions. Because it is a political imperitive that they are flawless, benevolent arbiters. And agents know this. Hence their behaviors and training.

The States are finally beholden to Federal tax dollars and can’t find their own cahojones to *actually* stand up for themselves!

That's mostly red states, to be clear. The vast majority of blue states contribute far more than they take.

still beholden - the fed can stop funding blue states, and the source of the funds doesn't matter much

Most blue states do not need funding, they can just stop funding red states and they are fine.

doesn't matter. the revenue flows to the fed and then back again. most states don't have the option to not pay the IRS its income tax

I wonder...if billionaires can utilise the tax code to avoid paying taxes...couldnt states weaponise the same laws...

No. income tax is paid to the irs, and congress allocates that to the states. trump is being allowed to simply declare that state X shouldn't get money, it isn't legal, but states don't have a mechanism to compel

Ironically, the reddest of the red would be against paying taxes the most.

They will argue in court that they have immunity because kidnapping children is a part of their job duty and a judge will actually take the claim seriously even though all these agents swore an oath to uphold the us constitution. It's all a farce. The government never holds themselves accountable.

Start putting the perpetrators in jail on state charges.

This is the answer. State and local officials need to start putting out warrants on these scum.

I understand that MN is afraid of being ground zero for civil war. Holding federal agents accountable for their crimes would be the affirmation of civil war. The feds incited it by trampling our rights and attacking the citizens of a state. The ball's in our court on whether or not we take the bait and retaliate.

And this admin is stonewalling, of course. Bad enough as it is - but the complicity by those in charge is unforgiveable.

If the next administration isn't a Nazi right wing one, they should totally file obstruction of justice charges against current DOJ officials withholding evidence.
