Finished watching Edgar Wright's Running Man. Found it a decent 6/10, falls apart in the third act but still a pretty entertaining movie. Here's the thing, I'm really sensitive to accents in movies, and very often when dialogue feels clunky or unnatural, I look up the actor and sure enough it's another Brit or Aussie playing American, struggling with the intonations and their Rs. In Running Man though, one thing that stood is that the film had a little more... pep in its step in the dialogue delivery. The satire of American society felt really pointed and authentic as a result.
Going through the cast afterwards, I was impressed that despite filming in the UK, nearly the entire cast with speaking roles was Americans or Canadians: Glen Powell, Josh Brolin, Colman Domingo, Lee Pace, Michael Cera, William H. Macy, Jayme Lawson, Katy O'Brian, Karl Glusman, Martin Herlihy, Sean Hayes, David Zayas
Only exceptions are Emilia Jones and Daniel Ezra but they were both good.
This isn't meant to be xenophobic or protectionist, I'm not even American. But I find it cool Wright went the extra mile for this. It would have been easy to go with some ex-Dr. Who BBC day players for most of the below the line actors, but Wright made the effort to bring the actors over who were the best for the part.
wright definitely nailed the casting, it's refreshing to see that dedication to authenticity in a film. adds a whole new layer to the satire when the dialogue feels genuine.

>This isn't meant to be xenophobic or protectionist
except it is, this is pure conservative nationalism
>I'm not even American.
you obviously want to be and must be inspired by the worst Americans
if you're praising a movie for excluding foreigners and being nationalistically pure

That's hysterical sorry. And Michael Cera is Canadian and that doesn't bother me. It's about sounding natural when delivering the dialogue.

Should Michael Cera being Canadian bother others if it's not bothering you?
Hold on, slow down here. What should we be offended about in the first place? I'm so lost in the points you are focusing on.

I'm not saying anyone should be offended or bothered by anything. I just found it cool that despite filming in the UK, Wright made the effort to bring over the best actors that sounded natural for the characters they're playing. And voices and accents is something I'm sensitive to.

That's why I say "Americans or Canadians" in my post.

Friendly reminder that Canadians usually don’t like to be called Americans.
