Term limits and they have to put any stock funds into a blind trust for the short time they are in office. If they own a business, they can either divest or relinquish control to a third party. A division of the FBI that only investigates elected officials for corruption that is overseen by a bipartisan committee that rotates on a regular schedule and whose funding is guaranteed by statute. It will never happen, but I can dream.

Lobbying is the least of the problem. universal term limits, mandatory jail time, mandatory fines greater than 100% of whatever the crime earned you, ranked choice voting, simple methods for literally all elected officials to be removed from office by voters. The bigger problem is that they still won't blame GOP policy, they'll just scapegoat Trump or better yet, somehow a Democrat (that's literally half of their rhetoric now, and basically every election cycle, is the problems are all the Dems). Our most "vulnerable" people are already voting Republican. It's amazing how many poor people vote Republican every election. My mother runs a 501c3 and you would be absolutely f****** BAFFLED by the amount of poor people who need consistent help that voted for Trump. It's unfortunately very common, and I live in an incredibly blue city. It only gets worse the more rural you go. Years ago I worked at a bank (in tech), who will go nameless. They had a high risk mortgage division and we were building out their website. Naturally all the executives wanted their picture on the "about us" page with a bio. The designer who I sat next to says out loud while mocking up said page "Hrumpf, I guess it's true, fat old white men do run banks". I slid over to his desk and sure enough all fat old white men. This was just shy of a decade before the mortgage crisis... they were already getting predatory at the bank. TO say that the people running the place were thieves would have also been accurate as well. That's effectively how the entire industry operates at this point. Trading happens so fast you don't have a chance to react and most companies are limited by network ping to get the trades in for certain fluctuations. Thing is they're trained mostly on traditional spikes and dips and market manipulation like this is not sensical. I'm sure most stock trades noticed the spike in trades and also benefit from it, but they have a lot more money to throw around as a gamble than you or I do.

the internet is not quite as fast as people like to think. There's still delay. There was a battlefield 3 video with the devs at one point when they were trying to fix the game nearly from the ground up, They had 2 computers side by side, less than 10 ping to the server. The demonstration was about hitboxes, but it was very evident when they crouched on one PC, there's a very good one-one-thousand before the camera on the other PC saw that crouch. I cashed out all of my US stocks in December of last year. I’ve missed some of the spikes in the intervening months, but at least I will be shielded when someone in the finance world finally flinches and calls the bluff that is the current US stock market. I encourage others to explore similar options. There are tons of ex-US ETF options out there. When it all does come crashing down it’s going to make 2008 look like a walk in the park.
