My daughter is 8 months old and lately I've been thinking about stuff like Mr. Rogers and how consequential it was to me growing up. I didn't know if there was anything like that out there now, but I'm glad to know this will be available as she gets older and can watch.

Yeah, but it doesn't teach quite the same lessons that Mr. Rogers taught. Not a lot of stories about inclusiveness and empathy and kindness. It's had stories about *unkindness* (“Promises” comes to mind) but it's still not the same as what Fred Rogers did.
2
brb1006Mar 19, 2026
I love Daniel Tigers' Neighborhood utilized characters from the original Mister Rogers' show as parents or family members. Daniel Striped Tiger becomes a father, Lady Elaine and Music Man Stan (who only appeared in a Christmas special) become parents, Henrietta is a single mother, and X the Owl becomes an uncle.

No joke, Mister Rogers remains one of the most important adults in my life. I am not a naturally empathetic person, and was a later in life ASD diagnosis.
I firmly believe Mister Rogers and early Sesame Street taught me how to be a better person in ways that were not natural to me. I think you'd look at me and think I am an empathetic person by my actions, but I had to come at it from a very top down, intellectualized point of view.

My kids are teenagers now, but those were basically what we put on for them when they were little. A few other PBS things thrown in like Would Kratz and Wordgirl, but Sesame and Mister Rogers were foundational.
Kids have no idea that something is older, and the lessons he taught are timeless. Plus who doesn't like seeing how crayons are made?

When my kids were toddlers, none of us could really watch Mr. Rogers. Frankly, we're too conditioned to the faster pace of modern shows. We did watch *a lot* of Daniel Tiger's neighborhood though. Like, my kids are tweens now, and we still sing the songs from time to time.
All of that to say, DT is an excellent alternative if you aren't watching Mr.R.
Bluey is also excellent. My kids still ask to watch it when we're winding down at night. I wfh and sometimes I put it on as background noise, because it's just pleasant with no tension.

Hey isn't Steve Huffman a billionaire? Wtf are you doing commenting on a conservative billionaire website? Demand better.

Great hot take but absolutely wrong.
Youtube is owned by Alphabet (aka Google) and Google is publically traded.
Youtube does not care what you upload as long as it makes them money and advertisers don't complain.
Also the only people who can monetize the Mr. Rogers videos are the people that own the Mr. Rogers IP.
On that note, while Mr. Rogers never really commented on religion or politics while in character (with the exception of getting more funding for PBS), he also once wrote a song (everybody's fancy) that some critics might claim was heteronormative. You can claim Mr. Rogers was literally as evil or as good as you want him to be depending on who you ask and when it's convenient.
1
JJiggy13Mar 20, 2026
So we're pretending that all of those anti trans ads that run when the kiddos are watching are purely coincidental for YouTube to make money so that you can continue the narrative that YouTube is not factually owned by someone who donated to trump and not to Kamala. Got it.
0
runwkufgrweMar 20, 2026
+2
Are you suggesting the Mr Roger's Neighborhood uploads already have a particular ad running, before they've even been uploaded?
You clearly have no idea how youtube ads are chosen. If you're seeing anti-trans ads it's probably because you keep watching right winged videos or videos about transphobia. If you were smarter you would use ad block.

I genuinely still mourn his passing sometimes. The older I get, the more I realize that I’m not just mourning the man, but mourning the death of what he represented; the love, perspective, and understanding that he brought to the world, and I lament how I see less and less of him in people every day. People are tired, angry, isolated, paranoid, and unsure of anything anymore. I’m glad to see he’s getting a place on YouTube. Truly one of the most important people I can think of in modern history - He fought for the ability to provide children with this foundation of empathy that he taught. Sure there have been far more important developments with things such as science and technology, but from a "base human" standpoint Mr. Rogers taught what it meant to be a good person at a core level when a lot of people weren't being taught that by their parents growing up.

I consider myself blessed/cursed. Hyperlexia, echolalia…I first heard these words about a decade ago. ADD/ADHD wasn’t a thing when I was in school so, neither were IEP’s…so it was kinda tough. BUT. I was born in the heyday of Sesame Street, Muppet Show, Henson, Electric Company, 3-2-1 Contact. And the king was Fred Rogers. PBS was a force. Educating kids in science, social interaction, emotional maturity, and teaching them their ABC/123s. And to shut up their gifted kid, my parents let me stay up to watch Cosmos. A science education show hosted by Carl FREAKING Sagan. Cmon. Bring it ALL back.

PBS kids is still a force. Mister Roger’s is on the PBS Kids app. A lot of their modern shows are great, my toddler loves Daniel Tiger. They have Carl the Collector, whose main character has ASD.

This is probably a result of the corporation for public broadcasting shuttering because most of its funding was withdrawn by the Trump administration, which has drastically affected PBS' ability to provide consistent content.
Putting this on youtube is probably the only way to guarantee that kids still have regular access to this kind of content.
I'm sure a lot of MAGA types think Mr Rogers is too "woke" for kids.

Hopefully the advertising doesn't commandeer the channel.

The world was a better place when this man roamed the earth. His gentle personality is timeless. We need more of him in this day and age.
We love Daniel Tiger!
Great news!

I think people on reddit can be a little weird about Mr Rogers but any sort of *quality* kids tv is a good thing, hopefully they don’t have ads but I doubt it

Better off putting it on Tubi or Pluto but as long as they do it right, why not.

I kind of wish they had a Twitch channel like Bob Ross/The Joy of Painting where they'd have weekend streams of episodes. Its really relaxing to just jump into a random episode and share the chat's elation when he paints a cabin or beats the Devil out of a brush (begone Lucifer).

I wonder how much from the first run of 600 episodes or so will be included.

As a child from the early 80's, this show taught me so many things that I still do today.
Being kind, having respect for others, manners, gaining knowledge about new things and using your imagination.
Very cool that a new generation can see this wonderful show.
Every opening has a slightly different performance of the theme as well.

Wow. I'm so glad for this. Bob Ross's channel has been very successful. That intial marathon on twitch years ago was a huge hit and the channel has live weekend marathons. No reason other PBS classics shouldn't be successful for doing the same.

Is there a YouTube channel for all those celebrity advice for teens and kids on Saturday mornings in the 80s and 90s?

Bob Ross videos have become a nightly routine video for me for the last few years and I’ve watched pretty much every single episode
I’m ready to switch it up to this now

It’s about time. Bob Ross has one and even plays on Hulu, Prime and Tubi. The world needs more people like that these days.

This makes me so happy. I don’t know why but I was always so happy as a kid when he would put on his cardigan or hang it up. Mister Rogers was such a cool guy.
