Been a thing for some time unfortunately. There was a surge in animals in peril being rescued years ago on YouTube.

Had to report a Russian guy on YouTube doing horrible things to kittens and then “rescuing them.” Commenters could not understand it was HIM putting these animals in danger. It was horrific.

There's a site for reports: https://www.endcrueltyonline.com/report-a-concern

Is actually a somewhat old scam. Had to cut out all cute animal youtube channels for my sanity because of it. The only three channels I'd recommend are Casual Geographic, Nate the Hoofguy, and Ze Frank.
Learning how to spot animal abuse in those algorithm based cute animal compilations will ruin the internet for you, but honestly you kind of owe it to yourself to learn. Any channel that shows off Slow Lorises, exotic animals getting belly rubs like eagles/parrots, oddly specific animal rescue videos, or baby animals doing really unnatural stuff like all sleeping in a line posed up, is peddling animal abuse content. Your attention is all that's needed to encourage it.

I LOVE Nate the Hoofguy. He's got a PBS voice. I avoid any videos that show exotics as pets ESPECIALLY big cats being treated like pets - that's just a bad idea all around.

Nate's a good guy and I'm glad there's no-nonsense people like him out there just trying to be nice to cows.
The kind of people who keep big cats as pets just want a status symbol to satisfy their ego.

Maya Higa runs the Alveus sanctuary which is very active on both youtube and twitch. One of my favourite creators, you can see how much she cares

This is very sad. I’ve seen videos on facebook of hurt animals and hurt baby animals and often wonder if the “rescues” have caused it to get money. They won’t tell you where they are; it’s just a donation link. I try not to look too closely as it is really bad.

I do local shelters only . We have a great group of people here in Beaufort County SC. It is kitten season so donations of kitten food & Pet-ag milk replacer. No kill shelters and T/N/R , We also have low cost vaccines/chip/spay Clinics

This was a big thing with sea turtle cleaning. They super glue barnacles to turtle shells and then film themselves rescuing and cleaning the turtle, often in ways ultimately harmful or fatal to the turtle

This isn’t a new thing. People have been doing this in Romania for years. Noticed a significant amount of dogs coming from Cyprus also. People are getting dogs, breeding them and then portraying the pups as ‘found’ on the streets. Just scumbags.

>"Once you receive the GoFundMe money, you use it to buy a car or build a house," Lubajja says while being secretly filmed.
>"Once you get a white donor, don't treat them as a brother. You have to squeeze them [take their money]. Drain them."
What a lovely fellow, it certainly seems like he has his priorities in order. /s

> "On the other side, in the Western world, people are very passionate about animals. These young men realised they can make money if they can get a dog."
I think there is a saying, "no good deed go unpunished" or something... money is the incentive to hurt animals. So the west created that incentive, of course some people are going to exploit that opportunity in the most egregious way.
Gofundme & co are fantastic for people who truly need it, but it's also rife with scams, like any crowdfunding platform, and as long as they get their cut of the money, the platforms don't care.
> "People who are donating money are causing the problem of animal cruelty here, because they keep on fuelling it, they are fanning the fire," says Kakooza.
Hurting animals is already horrible, but some people are literally hurting their kids in the hope to get money from the "white donor", and hurting here is a euphemism...
By the way, you can read the utter contempt these scammers have against "white donors" just by reading that sentence ("white" == rich in their mind).

The amount of shit posting accounts that are "Stay for 30 seconds to keep my shelter open" need to be forcibly shut down. They're either animal abusers or take content from other accounts in an effort to garner views and engagement. Nothing about their content is novel or ethical and it's preying on people's ineptitude or ignorance. Even worse are the ones with PayPal links.

Anger is understandable, but I just hope the focus stays on rescuing those animals and making sure this doesn’t happen again.
