Wrong picture, they get the name correct in the article and it would have taken them 5 seconds to get pictures of the place. It happened at dois irmaos in Vidigal.

My moto for Rio, São Paulo and Bahia is: It's all fine and good till it isn't. You can't really tell when the next shoot out is. Nor if you accidentally video/photographed the wrong thing, and now there's people after you. There's many beautiful places in Brazil to visit tho. Some are just not worth it anymore.

imagine going up for a view and ending up stuck there because of a gunfight… that contrast is honestly the craziest part places that look completely calm on the surface can be sitting right next to something unstable, and you don’t really see it until something like this happens 200+ people just waiting it out on a hill while everything unfolds below them… that’s a pretty stark reminder of how unpredictable things can get

This is why I haven't RSVP to my cousin's wedding in Mexico later in the year. ☠️

That's why I like walking tours on youtube since you can sometimes get POV tours that feel like you are actually there. The video below features a clear view of the statue at the twelve minute mark and a cloudy view at the very end. I hope those people on the mountain get back safely. Meh, they're pretty, but it's nothing like being there in person. I've seen walking tours of the Coliseum, but it didn't compare to being there myself and taking in the sights and sounds.

It varies for each individual. I generally don't like extreme heat so I prefer watching a walking tour of Angkor Wat over going there and sweating my buff off. Travelers also have to deal with the ordeal of airline travel, beggars, touts, crime, travel shots, potential tummy troubles, etc. When I visited Rio twenty years ago, a guy threw c*** on my shoe and offered to clean it while I was walking along the beach. I cleaned my own shoe on the sand but his scam was to get tips by cleaning the shoes of unsuspecting tourists. There are certainly some destinations that I want to see in person.

A sign of an impending collapse might be an accelerating disintegration of the tourism industry.
