So here the thing the purpose is to seize Iran’s main oil export route and reopen the strait. However, has Trump and Sycophants consider that if they actually do this the IRGC would just go scorched earth on the islands? Like I get it this administration is clinically brain dead, but there has to be people in military command telling the president about the risks.

I heard the other day they’re making security briefs into videos so he’ll watch and pay any attention to them.

Also let’s say it works…you can’t hold it forever. It would be a very temporary and expensive bandaid…
50
Beefkins Mar 29, 2026 +145
*ORRRRR*.....hear me out. We hold it for 20 years, give it back to the same people we took it from, and then blame a Democrat for it!

The_ElectricGhost Mar 29, 2026 +49
That could never work! The American people are way too rational, introspective, and politically astute to fall for something so simple as a playground “nuh-uh, you!”

They aren't holding this shit for 10 minutes

Even if you can, what does it accomplish? Does holding Kharg prevent Iran from targeting shipping in Hormuz?
17
Kind_Singer_7744 Mar 29, 2026 +48
The generals (and allies) already told him this was a bad idea but for trump it was either Iran or Greenland.

I would put money on the notion that every day, someone has to answer Trumps question of “Can’t we just nuke em?”
29
Bajadasaurus Mar 29, 2026 +14
The most terrifying thing is that we know Hegseth wants to nuke Iran, too, and Easter is coming. I truly fear they'll nuke Iran on Good Friday, believing that's what's necessary to bring "Christ's Second Coming". On Easter Sunday there will be a huge show of god knows what that can be pointed to as the fulfillment of biblical prophecy on the Third Day (after the anniversary of the crucifixion- Good Friday), in this year just as it was thousands of years ago.

If you view this from the lens that TRUMP IS A TRAITOR and acting in the interests of Putin, it makes sense. Trump is weakening Nato. Trump is distancing us from our allies. Trump is taking resources away from Ukraine. All of this benefits Putin, greatly.

Increasing to price of oil
5
OSUBrit Mar 29, 2026 +10
I remember watching a video in January talking about how the price of oil being so low was going to put Russia at real risk of collapse. Well problem f****** solved I guess.

To hold the Island they need to capture the beach, to hold the beach they need to capture the mountain. This is textbook mission creep
9
SockPuppet-47 Mar 29, 2026 +9
Trump wants to steal a few tankers of oil just like he did in Venezuela. I think it's very possible that Iran would go scorched earth. It'd be a huge insult for them to watch Trump steal their oil.
9
Brave_Nerve_6871 Mar 29, 2026 +8
Any US troops on that island will be like sitting ducks for the Iranian drones

Military brass are complicit. This is already an illegal war that hasn't been authorized by congress under either the constitution or the War Powers Act. Every single commander and soldier has a legal obligation to refuse illegal orders, of which every single order given in this war has been illegal. There needs to be a cleaning of the house from top to bottom. Everyone should be in jail.
14
melithium Mar 29, 2026 +1
Oh we all see this coming. Trump does not. Eventually we’ll be bombing civilian sites and trying to justify it into submission because Hegseth is a f****** traitor idiot
1
FlemPlays Mar 29, 2026 +1
*”…there has to be people in military command telling the president about the risks.”* Oh, those people were fired and replaced with “loyal yes men”.
1
itsatumbleweed Mar 29, 2026 +1
Right but presumably the same people telling him the risk here (if they haven't been fired) also told him what an absolutely bad idea the war in Iran was from the jump. If he still has any good ideas people around him, he isn't listening to them.
1
NMe84 Mar 29, 2026 +1
They fired all the dissident generals and are left with yes-men. Even if Trump would be open to suggestions from people he considers below him, there is no one left to do so.
1
Catch_022 Mar 29, 2026 +1
At least it makes more sense than Kharg Island. Iran turns off the oil and it becomes a great place for them to test their drones. Assuming they don't literally blow the whole island up once the US lands troops. It's a giant explosive bomb island filled with propane, naphtha and other flammable things.
1
parasyte_steve Mar 29, 2026 +1
These troops are going into a meat grinder. If they are deployed they will die to the last man. Iran is not playing games.
1
pianomasian Mar 29, 2026 +1
Apparently a bunch of upper military people warned Trump about the potential of all the current blowback and mess we are in, but that did what all "advice" he hears that does not just agree with him/stroke his ego: went in one ear and out the other.

1
ttoldman Mar 29, 2026 +300
Trump has totally misjudged Iran. He has surrounded himself with useless sycophants. It's an impossible situation America has forced on the world. It's going to spiral into chaos. MAGA have been completely brainwashed by an egotistical ignorant greedy fool. Shame on them for not recognising this evil idiot.
300
YJSubs Mar 29, 2026 +57
Just look at conservative sub to peek how their minds work. There's had been numerous times Trump utterly disappointed them, but wait for a day or two, they would right back supporting his sorry ass. So, to answer your question, they do recognize how bumbling idiot Trump are, how pathetic, liars and megalomaniac, and criminals Trump are. They simply doesn't care.
57
Tango_D Mar 29, 2026 +1
It is their identity to support this -> R Absolutely. No. Matter. What. That symbol and what it represents is the very keystone of their entire identity and worldview. To fail to fall in line is to be out-grouped which is a form of a social death sentence.
1
basquiatvision Mar 29, 2026 +1
And that’s what happens when your entire conscience is predicated on “at-least its not hurting me and my immediate family” and your political barometer relies on egg and gas prices. Forget having a political ethos at this point…did they ever grasp object permanence as children? jeez
1
itsatumbleweed Mar 29, 2026 +1
That sub also deletes comments not supportive of Trump. For a lot of posts about the particularly dumb ideas there will be a high reply count and very few visible. They have restricted conservatism to MAGA opinions only.
1
No_Gur1113 Mar 29, 2026 +101
Oh, they recognize it. They also relate to it, agree with it and use it to justify their own misdeeds. That’s why they’re not against it.
101
FittedSheets88 Mar 29, 2026 +11
They're aiming for a holy war, armageddon. There's no amount of chaos that's too much
11
Tango_D Mar 29, 2026 +12
I have one MAGA friend left on FB and I keep them there just to keep an eye into that world. So long as liberals and democrats are angry or unhappy, they're happy. That's it. That is literally the extent of their political vision. If Trump sent nukes flying and ended the modern world, they would look to see how liberals are reacting and if liberals are having a negative response, then by golly Trump did something right.
12
FederalExpressMan Mar 29, 2026 +15
Iran has been preparing for this for 30 years. Competent leaders on both sides knew what is going to happen in the event of an attack on Iran. The idiot in charge decided to actually act without a plan but “trust me bro”
15
BrowsingLocally Mar 29, 2026 +22
I quibble with the use of the word "misjudged". I bet that neither Trump nor his staff made an organic decision to attack Iran. IMO, Trump was dog-walked by Bibi.  I wouldn't be surprised if Bibi has  kompromat on Trump. You know, Epstein videos....
22
Crimkam Mar 29, 2026 +28
you don't need kompromat on someone this dumb. You just have to be a powerful strong man, and Trump will imprint on you like a baby duck that lost it's daddy

6

They do know. America just elected ppl who genuinely don’t care about America and just want to enrich themselves. They are all making bank over this conflict. A sharp rise in food and gas prices won’t affect them one bit.

MrNewking Mar 29, 2026 +1
We have a leader with a spine that finally has the balls to get rid of the Iran problem instead of giving them billions or kicking the can down the world.

It's still a bit baffling that this supposed 'beacon of democracy' allows for one person to decide willy nilly when and where to invade/bomb/etc.

DoNotCommentAgain Mar 29, 2026 +37
For my entire life time Americans have been screaming to the world about being the 'leader of the free world' while the rest of us cringed. GB Jr stole an election and illegally invaded Iraq decades ago, paving the way for the current situation. All this while imprisoning a higher percentage of the population than any other country, no free healthcare, shitty public services and a corrupt police force. It's nice to see Americans finally start to realise not only do they not lead the free world, they were never free themselves.

Well it's on par with the IDF being the most moral army in the world or that Russian forces don't target civilian infrastructure in Ukraine. Just propaganda bullshit.
1
Diddly_eyed_Dipshite Mar 29, 2026 +1
Whens the last time anyone has earnestly considered the US a beacon or even a good example of democracy? That propaganda may have worked in the 70s/80s but people haven't considered it an actual democracy for many many years.
1
Crossbowguy340 Mar 29, 2026 +115
I don’t think the American public is ready for videos of their soldiers getting blown up with FPV’s like in the Ukraine War.

27
Araminal Mar 29, 2026 +7
If the troops keep walking around it makes them harder to count.
7
MessMaximum5493 Mar 29, 2026 +3
Nah this is just journalists not doing their homework. The Tripoli carries 2500 marines, 1000 ship crew. The article adds them together for some reason as if the ship crew are going to go on land to fight.
3
IntelArtiGen Mar 29, 2026 +2
Oh ok. I also read "[5000 troops](https://www.middleeasteye.net/news/5000-us-marines-and-sailors-dispatched-middle-east-report)","[2000 troops](https://www.nytimes.com/2026/03/24/us/politics/82nd-airborne-division-iran-troops.html)", "[3000 troops](https://www.democracynow.org/2026/3/25/headlines/pentagon_reports_as_many_as_3_000_us_troops_set_to_be_deployed_to_the_middle_east)", also "[10000 additional troops](https://www.wsj.com/livecoverage/iran-war-us-israel-news-updates/card/trump-weighs-sending-another-10-000-ground-troops-to-the-middle-east-v1OhoXwv55BiCg7MAmim)". I guess it depends on specific details (one boat? all boats? current deployment? potential future deployments? ship crew included? etc.). It would also be interesting to know if they're really adding troops or just replacing existing troops ([scheduled rotation](https://eu.usatoday.com/story/news/world/2026/03/25/what-is-82nd-airborne-division-deploy-iran-war/89313427007/ )): > The Army earlier this month announced that the 82nd Combat Aviation Brigade, another unit of the 82nd Airborne Division, would deploy to the Middle East as part of a **scheduled rotation**. It's easy to get confused by the numbers when we're not experts.
2
MessMaximum5493 Mar 29, 2026 +2
The paratrooper numbers are just journalists making shit up. The source they got was someone told them the 82nd Airborne HQ was going to deploy and they just extrapolate the number based on open information on how many troops. In reality no one knows how many actual troops are being deployed. 5000 marines is them adding the other 2500 Marines that are on the way on the USS Boxer and 2 other ships that left from the US. But that won't reach the middle east anytime soon, maybe 1 more weeks or something

Keep in mind, everyone surrounding Trump (including the generals) are afraid to give him any information that counters what he already *chooses* to believe, we all know how he feels about that. All the while, both sides have dug in, and there is no incentive for either side to deescalate. This is only the beginning, and it will get *much* worse.

Dan-Of-The-Dead Mar 29, 2026 +13
Why does in need to intensify? It has been nothing but a (staggeringly expensive) disaster so far for no real gain. Only more human misery in a world that doesn't need it. Why not deescalate and wind down instead? The American president can say he went there and did necessary stuff and it won't matter if that's true or not. Not once ever has truth or facts mattered to him anyway so just stop this disaster and spin another one.
13
Ucccafelatte Mar 29, 2026 +1
He's already bored of it. We should be deescalating but we're escalating instead. I wonder why? Maybe he's not in control. Who benefits? Who's calling the shots?

So many american young man and woman will die with this stupidity.  Iran doesn't care. This is just temporary and they are ready to lose much more people, and have more time, than americans. They can and will inflict a lot of pain. Russian are losing man and don't care, Iran is probably even worse and they have religion to support it. How many deaths is Trump ready to accept politically? How long can he have boots on the ground until next midterms lead to a heavy victory of Democrats on both houses? China on the other hand is so happy with all this. Just getting ready to finish Taiwan invasion, as soon as Iran finishes their job of weakening American apetite for war and missile stocks.

Did they bring 3500 body bags? I’m confident that Trump can do the dumbest thing here and get a lot more people killed. And I’m confident nobody in America has what it takes to stop him.

I'm Australian, I have no idea how midterms work. If people want Trump out, then he can possibly go this year? Then what, the democrats have to deal with the war, it lands in their hands?

Mid terms is middle of the presidential cycle where we vote on the house and senate. So hopefully vote a lot of democrats into congress and flip the numbers.
