Another person who everything I know about them, I've learned against my will. Can y'all (whoever keeps making people like this famous) stop putting trash on pedestals, please?

Elbit_Curt_Sedni Apr 8, 2026 +141
Right, but then how are they going to get clicks?
141
tyme Apr 8, 2026 +67
They get clicks because people choose to click. I know people who watch these kinds of shows. More than one has openly admitted they watch them because it makes them feel better about themselves. It’s a poor, and often detrimental, replacement for therapy.

Kapowpow Apr 8, 2026 +8
Does this person know that all reality tv is scripted? As in, the “actors” are told how to act, just not precisely what to say. And, everything is edited after the fact to fit the producers’ narrative du jour.
8
tyme Apr 8, 2026 +8
Yes. They don’t care.

sec713 Apr 8, 2026 +17
I think the real reasoning behind programming like this is to condition the public to be content with living a mediocre, unfulfilling lives. People see stuff like this and some think, "well my life doesn't seem so bad now", when in fact it is.
17
tyme Apr 8, 2026 +25
I’m more inclined to think the content creators realized people liked this kinda stuff, and started pumping it out. It’s not some grand conspiracy to keep us docile, it’s just content creators reactor to trends - as they’ve always done.

It's this because of schadenfreud. I think you're both right, though not so much in the planning to dumb down society. It happens and then it's exploited. Imo. A lot of people need therapy, but this is more often on par with watching a scary movie when you're emotionally numbed out due to intense stress or depression. That's also something I do. When I'm so spent emotionally and need a distraction, I usually go for a psychological thriller or horror movie. It's more common than people think. There's nothing wrong with it, so long as it's not be used as avoidance, or keeping you in a unhealthy mindset. If it's nothing more than a way to distract and recharge, then they ok and people shouldn't be made to feel like their less than for it. Or, that if you do this on occasion it means you're in denial of needing therapy. 🙄

>There's nothing wrong with it, so long as it's not be used as avoidance, or keeping you in an unhealthy mindset. If it's nothing more than a way to distract and recharge, then they ok… Fair point.

sec713 Apr 8, 2026 +4
True. This isn't some new thing either. I've been making similar comments since the days of Phil Donahue.
4
flamepanther Apr 8, 2026
It can be both. The CIA has funded art, for instance. They don't tell the artists what to make, but they do choose what to fund. As for TV, I'm sure the shareholders playing Monopoly with the major media companies mostly want to make money, but I'm also sure they have opinions about the kind of messaging they want to promote.

Elbit_Curt_Sedni Apr 8, 2026 +1
Right, and thus, it generates 'clicks' which generates revenue. That's why it's done.
1
jackrabbit323 Apr 8, 2026 +1
How are they going to be purposely distracted from everything going on in the world?
1
Remarkable-Bug-8069 Apr 8, 2026 +1
Install a taxi meter on the bed / O******* account could be an idea.

gnatgirl Apr 8, 2026 +20
For real. I left Utah because I was tired of the Mormon religion dominating everything there. I still can't escape hearing about them because all these weird-ass reality shows keep fetishizing a terrible, patriarchal cult.
20
Ohuigin Apr 8, 2026 +37
Reminds me of one of my all time favorite bumper stickers - *Stop making stupid people famous* Wise words that if heeded, would have created a wildly different world than the one we have now where a senile old racist bombs people to distract from the fact that he raped children.
37
I_dont_bone_goats Apr 8, 2026 +25
So my girlfriend is really into Mormon wives and always tells me about the situation, I generally feel the same way. I will say that rarely, I will be like “damn that’s actually crazy🍿”

Isildur: No.

TheModWhoShaggedMe Apr 8, 2026 +6
Society went down this path 25 years ago when it decided watching sleazy reality shows was sufficient entertainment worthy of their time. Humans can be very simple creatures.
6
thecalmingcollection Apr 8, 2026 +14
Humans used to watch gladiators fight to death. We’ve never been that evolved.
14
TheModWhoShaggedMe Apr 8, 2026 +2
True, being natural followers and lame is not a recent phenomenon. Sadly, we have so many improved options *from reality stank* for entertainment at our fingertips compared to civilizations past and people still choose the base content.
2
MentalSky_ Apr 8, 2026 +1
Gladiators died and became less relevant. You didn't have to deal with them for 20 years
1
MentalSky_ Apr 8, 2026 +6
I blame survivor and Mark Burnett for everything. F***** made Trump relevant after he finally faded away when Oprah stopped her show F*** i blame Oprah for a lot of evil
6
Vynaeriak Apr 8, 2026 +4
You're assuming that it's people upvoting this slop and pushing it to everyone's feeds; AI/bots are always contributing towards promoting current "show/movie/tiktok trend/YouTube shorts/wtv the f***" if it means getting our corporate overlords even a penny more per click or view.
4
immersemeinnature Apr 8, 2026 +2
You, my friend, are part of the problem. You watched it.

Whole ass country full of brain dead people following these folk and making them famous. Worst part of the new age, literally anyone can get a platform for any reason.

At least you probably learned recently about why it’s dangerous to name streets and schools and things after ~~some~~ ~~most~~ probably all people…

WhateverYouSay1084 Apr 8, 2026
My husband actually asked me about this woman today like he thought I would have all the tea 😭 I might follow tradwives but the ones I follow are definitely not this insane
0
StrangeCharmQuark Apr 8, 2026 +12
They’re barely tradwives, too. I was interested because I wanted to see some petty church lady drama, like ooh Dorene didn’t bring a side to Betsy’s potluck” but nah it’s just the same old trash as Real Housewives but everyone’s pretending to be better than everyone else
12
WhateverYouSay1084 Apr 8, 2026 -1
Yeah I prefer the ones who actually think they're tradwives and don't just fake it for the cameras, like Jill Rodrigues and her myriad offspring. Also Paul and Morgan Olliges who are truly having a moment online.

I once had a wet dream, on the top bunk of a 6 bed train car, during a 12 hour ride across China, and had to sneak down to the bathroom to throw away my undies. Now you’ve learned something about me against your will.

_bessica_ Apr 8, 2026
I honestly don't know how you can consider a reality tv person put on a pedestal. Their entire claim to fame is being so outrageous it's entertaining to watch them live their life.
0
73maxwell Apr 8, 2026
It’s not a pedestal, SLoMW is great because it’s breathtaking in the same way as a dumpster fire or train wreck. It’s absolute garbage but I love it. It’s the equivalent of eating a FatShack sandwich. There’s no part of it that’s good for me but I can enjoy it when I want something trashy.
0
wartopuk Apr 8, 2026 +1
You should never want anything trashy. You don't enjoy it when you want something trashy, you just have bad taste. People need to stop with this 'guilty pleasure' mentality and own their poor decisions and taste.

I've never watched any of these wives shows. Don't see the appeal at all.

I was told she’s all “Traditional Family values” tho
132
EagleForty Apr 8, 2026 +72
They're the least-Mormon Mormons I've ever seen. Why the Church of Latter Day Saints hasn't excommunicated several of them already is mind-boggling.
72
MeowMixxx420 Apr 8, 2026 +62
Because the church benefits from Mormonism being in the mainstream
62
Hashshinobi1 Apr 8, 2026 +1
& I imagine they get their 10% of their income
1
Deodorized Apr 8, 2026 +51
Makes more sense when you realize it's always about the money, not the "values".
51
IrishPigs Apr 8, 2026 +10
My partner watches real housewives of Salt Lake and it blows my mind they still call themselves mormans.
10
A_Queer_Owl Apr 8, 2026 +3
mormons are by and large massive hypocrites from what I've seen.
3
amethystwyvern Apr 8, 2026 +1
Mormons are the reason dirty sodas are a thing.
1
airfryerfuntime Apr 8, 2026 -4
Most of these people aren't even LDS, they're various different flavors of FLDS, so the church excommunicating then wouldn't really mean anything, but it's not like they do that much in the first place.
-4
fightingfish18 Apr 8, 2026 +15
This is not an FLDS one you're thinking of Sister Wives. Most of the girls on this show are openly talking about being non practicing or leaving the church
15
Sisajgasad Apr 8, 2026 +2
Sister Wives aren’t flds either- they’re a part of the AUB
2

Battering your own children is a historically rooted tradition.
19
Scared-Hope-868 Apr 8, 2026 +157
From what I've seen, few mormon wives should have unsupervised visitation. They all seem a bit off.
157
Fair_Blood3176 Apr 8, 2026 +110
Most if not all of these Mormon wives are NOT devout Mormons. Otherwise they wouldn't be wearing the stuff those women wear because they're secret underwear would be showing. That's a big no no. This show is a form of "white washing" for Mormonism. edit: NOT devout* sorry
110
chamullerousa Apr 8, 2026 +27
“White washing”? More like “trash canning”. Who would want to be affiliated with these sleazy abusive people on this show?
27
Fair_Blood3176 Apr 8, 2026 +30
It's an attempt to "normalize" outsiders view of Mormonism with the rest of society. To make it seem like Mormonsim isn't as serious of an organization than it really is. IMO at least.🤷‍♂️
30
chamullerousa Apr 8, 2026 +8
Nothing about the people on the show is normal and no Mormon wants any affiliation with them or their behavior.
8
murrtrip Apr 8, 2026 -3
lol- it’s not an attempt at anything. They aren’t “saying” anything with this garbage. They just discovered these women are like a lot of other reality Tv stars and will do anything for attention. That means money. Full stop.

Welcome to Utah.

EddieCheddar88 Apr 8, 2026 +19
Dating there as a non Mormon must be a nightmare
19
Mike_smith97 Apr 8, 2026 +30
It's kind of a culture war in SLC. You're either super Mormon or super anti-Mormon. It's becoming less and less Mormon over time. Outside Salt Lake County though, I agree with you.
30
gnatgirl Apr 8, 2026 +15
When I lived there I would not date someone if they were a former Mormon. Too much baggage.
15
FuckStummies Apr 8, 2026 +18
They named their son, Ever? That is child abuse.

ww3patton Apr 8, 2026 +76

what the hell happened
43
BigBoySky Apr 8, 2026 +161
She’s an abusive spouse. She’s been Convicted and recent videos show her throwing a chair, that made contact with the kid. She should have lost custody rights well before this. Hell I think the record of Domestic violence was known before she even appeared or Mormon wives, and even was a plot point
161
SavathunTechQuestion Apr 8, 2026 +6
Yes and she was scheduled to be this season's Bachelorette (full season filmed and everything) before video became public of her throwing furniture at her ex-partner with their child in the room. So that season is canceled and ABC network is out a bunch of money, which is schadenfreude considering that the show does background checks before picking the star that would have revealed information about this incident from 2023. https://www.npr.org/2026/03/20/nx-s1-5754587/bachelorette-canceled-taylor-frankie-paul-mormon-wives
6
Subietoy78 Apr 8, 2026 +11
to be fair, and im not excusing the violence or chair throwing, her BF is a total piece of shit too
11
Corgi_Koala Apr 8, 2026 +34
Being consistently unfaithful isn't an excuse to throw a chair at someone and hit a kid.
34
Subietoy78 Apr 8, 2026 -14
Well he locked her in the garage first but no one wants to talk about that.
-14
Opening-Calendar3421 Apr 8, 2026 +10
Still doesn't excuse her throwing 3 chairs and hitting her kid
10

Don't victim blame, it's a bad look
-3
libbillama Apr 8, 2026 +4
I'm two or three degrees separated from him and I've been told he's an a****** with enabling parents. And I was told this before the first season aired.
4
CarrieDurst Apr 8, 2026 +2
No such thing as a perfect victim
2
Shadpool Apr 8, 2026 +66
She beat on her boyfriend, throwing furniture, hit her kid in the process, and didn’t care. The guy got all of it on video.

KnotSoSalty Apr 8, 2026 -18
Yeah, but then they got back together…? Explain that one.
-18
omegadirectory Apr 8, 2026 +40
He wouldn't be the first battered spouse to take their abuser back, sadly
40
Bubbly_Wubbly_ Apr 8, 2026 +40
Takes an average of seven tries to leave an abusive relationship.
40
gopaloo Apr 8, 2026 +4
Is that actually true? That's kinda fascinating, but sadly lines up in my situation lol
4
JustADutchRudder Apr 8, 2026
Gotta get them all outta the way in 7 mins, like a speed run of were done, we're back together. Then #7 you just start running while peeing.
0
ratpride Apr 8, 2026 +1
Is the peeing necessary
1
Deranged40 Apr 8, 2026
Much more if both sides contribute equally to being a shitty abusive person.
0
coolpapa2282 Apr 8, 2026 +8
They are both incredibly toxic people. They deserve each other, but it sucks there are kids involved.
8
Pinklady777 Apr 8, 2026 +3
Got back together and decided to have a kid together. They did not have a kid together at the time of the incident.
3
Ibewye Apr 8, 2026 +2
When ya have 12 wives what’s one crazy one…
2

It just means the boyfriend is also trashy. A decent human being would know child abuse is a deal breaker

Back in the day, all I had to do was not watch the channel. What do I need to do to not ever hear anything about Mormon Wives or Real Wives of Dipshitville? I mean, can I just get the version of life without that garbage?
11
Draco149_87 Apr 8, 2026 +5
Especially in a room with chairs she can throw. Don’t forget about the chairs.
