Moscow walks away with billions as Trump's Russian oil waiver expires
U.S. sanctions on Russian oil have resumed after the Trump administration allowed a temporary waiver on certain sales to expire on April 11, the Kyiv Independent has learned, ending a short-lived effort to stabilize markets during Washington's war against Iran. The waiver, introduced in March, came as the U.S. sought to increase available supply after the war rattled energy markets. The decision has drawn bipartisan criticism in Washington, particularly as Russia has supported Iran in the war

Annnnd..... Vanity Fair 2017: "A number of reports have indicated the Trump Organization received substantial financing from Russia when the business was struggling in the mid 1990s and again during the Great Recession, since major U.S. banks had refused to loan money to him. Most recently, Reuters reported that a group of 63 Russia billionaires have invested nearly $100 million in several Trump properties in Florida. Donald Trump Jr. himself famously said in 2008 that “Russians make up a pretty disproportionate cross-section of a lot of our assets. We see a lot of money pouring in from Russia.”

Yep, but this was before he became president and the saudis started giving him and his family billions. Plus he owes the russians, trump doesn't seem the type to be under someones thumb. Look at espteins "suicide" under trumps watch.

Eric Trump was quoted in 2014 by a golf reporter as saying the company was not relying on American banks, as they had, "all the funding we need out of Russia" as well.

Do you honestly think that anything will ever happen to anyone involved in this administration or those that helped it come to fruition? This is the USA. It’s the land of corporate profits over people. This country is no longer a democracy that represents the will of the people. It is a kleptocracy. The oligarchs are complicit in this administration, they bought and paid for it. They will be around after he’s gone, nothing is going to change.

Normally I'd agree... Most rational dem administrations would be happy to serve him his eviction papers and move on.  but he's taken so much money and done so much damage... I'm not sure that's an option Though with most of today's democrats youth never know. They might still name an aircraft carrier after the guy

If anything has been proven in the last year, it's that there is absolutely zero accountability in the US. Even places like China and Russia are looking like they do more in their own twisted ways, with mass arrests in the case of China, or windowing people in the case of Russia.

Trump is just a symptom. His entire administration and republicans will just repeat the cycle again even if Trump is gone.

Vaulters Apr 15, 2026 +318
This administration's only goal is to make Trump richer. That's the sole thought that occupies his mind at all times.
318
Kinkywrite Apr 15, 2026 +35
Not true. That's his only goal. The goal of the rest of them is to erode confidence in the federal government and strip everything possible out to allow for full control by the private sector. It's why they haven't checked him on anything. It isn't fear, it is literally what he is there to do for them. IMHO of course.

Pretty sure the main goal is to empower Russia and weaken the West. His personal bonus for doing so, is the wealth.

Putin has something on President dump. He’s always doing Putin’s bidding while pretending to be angry.

AlternativeScratch94 Apr 15, 2026 +39
He's actually doing Saudi Arabia's bidding, because they have funneled billions into his family. Saudi Arabia is just aligned with Russia in a lot of areas, particularly in wanting to drive up oil prices.

Sensationalist headline aside, from the article: *U.S. sanctions on Russian oil have resumed after the Trump administration allowed a temporary waiver on certain sales to expire on April 11, the Kyiv Independent has learned, ending a short-lived effort to stabilize markets during Washington's war against Iran*

As sensationalist as the title is, russia is the unambiguous w***** of this war. The US pulled a lot of resources from ukraine and damaged its ties to european allies. All while russia gets to sell their oil at a high price without having done anything really
30
phoenixmusicman Apr 16, 2026 +12
Kind of. Ukraine massively fucked their ability to actually export that oil.

vba7 Apr 16, 2026 +1
Damaged economy of its allies too. Fuel became expensive everywhere: Europe, Austalia, Japan... Also expensive in whole world who knows whom to blame.

Trump's a brain damaged pedo and all, but keep in mind Europe never even stopped buying Russian gas in the first place. If you disagree with a short, temporary pause on this sanction, hey more power to you, but do consider the context here. As much as I hate the guy it's not like Russia was cut off and Trump changed that. This whole time Europe has been sending billions of dollars per year to Russia with one hand while sending weapons to Ukraine with the other. And of course China, India and others have bought enormous amounts of Russian oil. I think Ukraine is doing the right thing by targeting Russia's refining and transport infrastructure instead. That's the real way to cut Russia's income.

TheJD Apr 15, 2026 +20
Most countries in the EU have dramatically reduced or eliminated entirely their gas and oil purchases from Russia. If your source is the Russian propaganda talking point that "EU spent more money in oil/gas from Russia than in aid given to Ukraine" it's because when the war started there isn't a magic button to replace oil and gas instantly. It takes time to change infrastructure, let existing contracts expire, and create new supply lines. A majority of the money "paid to Russia" happened in the first couple years because it takes time. Since February of 2024 to today, EU has imported approximately 21.9 billion Euros worth of oil/gas from Russia. In that same timeframe, the EU has provided roughly 50 billion Euros worth of aid, more than double. The EU has also set a deadline for a full EU ban on all Russian gas imports by November of next year. They're committed to and currently working on a similar ban of all oil exports as well.

I’m honestly shocked that they didn’t find some excuse to continue this. I never thought the sanctions would ever come back Doesn’t change the fact that pretty well everything Trump does is to benefit Russia

Russia has an annual household budget of 400 billion. 4 additional billions are nothing
-12
Irr3l3ph4nt Apr 15, 2026 +13
It's millions of ammo/ordinance or tens of thousands of drones or the pay for a hundred thousand soldiers. It's also the combined healthcare/education budget of like 3 small Oblasts. It's not nothing. Fortunately Ukraine was able to close the tap as much as possible by bombing their oil terminals.
13
ManagerOfLove Apr 15, 2026 -8
yeah but this will not decide the fate of the war. In the grand scheme of things, this doesn't matter
-8
Irr3l3ph4nt Apr 15, 2026 +17
Tell that to the thousands of Ukrainians that will die as a direct result of this funding.
