Movie adaptations with a twist

Posted by Vickrktk

You know how clueless, pride, prejudice & zombies and O'dessa are adaptations of books or myths but mix/add something up. I'm looking for movie recomendations that do the same thing, an adaptation with a twist or cool aesthetics. It can be in any language as long as is subbed in english or spanish (or maybe italian or portugese, since they are similar) That Romeo & Juliette movie with Dicaprio counts too. Thanks & sorry for my bad english!

Would you count the new ugly stepsister, since it tells Cinderella but from the perspective of the stepsister?

There are a lot of Shakespeare adaptations that do this: * [Forbidden Planet \(1956\)](https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0049223/?ref_=nv_sr_srsg_0_tt_8_nm_0_in_0_q_forbidden%20planet): *The Tempest* in space * [Ran \(1958\)](https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0089881/?ref_=nv_sr_srsg_0_tt_2_nm_6_in_0_q_ran): *King Lear* in feudal Japan * [Scotland, PA \(2001\)](https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0265713/?ref_=nv_sr_srsg_0_tt_7_nm_1_in_0_q_scotland%20pa): *Macbeth* with a fast food restaurant * [She's the Man \(2006\)](https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0454945/?ref_=nv_sr_srsg_0_tt_8_nm_0_in_0_q_she%27s%20the%20man): *Twelfth Night* in a high school * [Throne of Blood \(1957\)](https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0050613/): *Macbeth* in feudal Japan * [Warm Bodies \(2013\)](https://www.imdb.com/title/tt1588173/?ref_=nv_sr_srsg_0_tt_8_nm_0_in_0_q_warm%20bodies): *Romeo and Juliet* with zombies * [10 Things I Hate about You](https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0147800/?ref_=nv_sr_srsg_0_tt_8_nm_0_in_0_q_10%20things): *Taming of the Shrew* in a high school

Starship Troopers is a satirical take on the original story and ended up much better than the book, IMO.

10 Things I Hate About You fits exactly what you're looking for - Taming of the Shrew dropped into 90s high school and it just works perfectly

*The French Lieutenant's Woman* is based on a book, but the adaptation is about actors in an adaptation of the book.

Darren Aronofsky's **Mother!** crashes patriarchal Biblical symbolism into the myth of Mother Earth and plays out the tragic results as an existential/psychological Horror Film. Kubrick's masterpiece **2001: A Space Odyssey** references the structure and mythological figures in Homer's **Odyssey** --especially the vanquishing of the Cyclops, represented by Kubrick as **HAL**.
