Okay everybody has told me that the new silent Hill movies sucks to avoid it like used toilet paper. So I thought okay what are some movies that would fit in well to the silent Hill universe that are not directly related to silent Hill but you could see them in that universe. Because it would be nice to make a list for people who have had a bad taste put in their mouth by this crappy movie to replace it with some good tasting digestible movie goodness that would be in the same flavor as the silent Hill games. I'm asking for similar movies to silent Hill games.
the thing (1982) would be perfect for this. that whole isolated paranoia vibe where you can't trust anyone around you, plus the body horror is just \*chef's kiss\* for silent hill vibes. the practical effects in that movie still hold up better than most cgi today too.
also check out jacob's ladder if you haven't seen it yet. that movie basically wrote the playbook for psychological horror that silent hill borrowed from heavily. the imagery and themes are so close it's wild.

The thing would work and Jacob's ladder you aren't ever going to find a movie quite as good as that as far as psychological horror goes or maybe it would be better to call it cerebral horror since it takes some thinking to understand what's really going on in the movie it's not one you can just sit down with a tired brain and watch like an action film.

The mist is one of my favorite Stephen King stories I have history with that story in fact the first time I ever got fully wasted on alcohol after I ran away from home I sobered up the next day and listened to the radio show they made of the story which the ending is quite a bit different than the one in the movie and the one in the movie is quite a bit different than the one from the book but closer to it. And I was particularly out of it that day sobering up for the first time and I listened to the radio show on repeat over and over again freaking myself out.

that’s a cool idea! i’d say movies like "The Others" or "Jacob's Ladder" would fit right in with that twisted vibe. also, "Silent House" has that claustrophobic feel that screams Silent Hill.

Jacob’s Ladder for sure, that film was a big influence on the Silent Hill developers

I'm sure because that movie was fantastic and it could have been should have back when they were making games based upon old movies during the original Xbox days made that one into a game like they did The godfather and the warriors.

It's about right I have a good idea every 6 years or so when it's a full moon out and I jumped up and down on one leg while singing My Bonnie lies over the Ocean badly in and off key as possible. That's when my really stellar ideas usually come.
I remember the others I just don't remember the story I know I saw it Jacob's ladder is one that I saw many times as a kid I even bought it when I was into finding weird and unusual movies that weren't like the mainstream Hollywood stuff. Speaking of Jacob's ladder did you ever see the remake? I avoided it because I heard it was lousy.
The others I think was a very well received horror movie as well like a lot of people liked it

Deathwatch (2002), set in a foggy, abandoned WWI trench. The same director as Silent Hill Revelation funnily enough.

Funny you should bring up another silent Hill movie because I just was looking up silent Hill on the internet and actually a movie made several years ago about silent Hill is what caused Konami to stop making silent Hill games for a while because it was so bad. Just imagine making a movie that is so bad that it stops the company for making sequels are more games within a franchise because your movie based upon the video game series sucks so hard

You think Rosemary's baby would fit into silent Hill cuz I was figuring it's kind of like a weird trip down a rabbit hole of hell and the twist at the end kind of clears everything up so kind of like silent Hill game does where it takes you on a weird ride and explains it by the end. what do you think?
2
umvoronMar 30, 2026

Probably would work. I mean with 3's themes of >!forced inpregnation of God!< I could see the devil working too. However the thing that would be difficult would be gameplay. But yeah, the psychological aspects and body horror to a degree would work.

We'll see that's what was special about some of the movies from that time period because they did not have the reliance that movies today have on a bunch of special effects they were forced to tell a really good story if they were going to go down as classic movies. Just kind of like one of the reasons twilight zone is so well remembered is because of the fact that it told great stories with twist you don't even see coming even when you watch them now because you would have thought they would have been copied many times over by this point so you would know what was coming.
Like one of my other favorite old science fiction movies is invasions of the body snatchers just a very well told Twilight zone-esque story.

If you haven't, definitely check out the 3 movies I listed. The most effect-heavy is the Void, but it's done 90% practically. It's more of a sci-fi horror, but the setting and premise is very Silent Hill-esque. The other 2 rely almost solely on a sense of dread and palpable tension. None of the 3 use digital effects to any real degree, until the last few minutes of the Void.

I just checked out and found out that Rosemary's baby has a sequel called look at what happened to Rosemary's baby he made for TV movie that people said sucked getting a 3.2 on Internet movie database and then there was a prequel called apartment 7A that got a little over a five I think and then there was a miniseries made as well for one of the streaming services but it seems like the only decent movie is the original the rest just seem like they're passable and okay except the low ratedade for t. Sequel

Pulse sounds amazing right up my alley as well as black coat's daughter.
The only down side to the pulse is the I bad with subtitles I constantly am rewinding because I cannot always read fast enough to get it the first time. But that story line seems like something I love.

Maybe an odd suggestion but The Mirror Crack'd, given that madness and untreated mental exhaustion was a major cause of the film's plot.
Also, given that Silent Hill 2 outright proves that multiple Otherworlds can exist in the same place based on the mental traumas of multiple people (we see Angela's when >!she kills herself!< and Eddie's during >!his boss fight!<), I think Beauty and the Beast would be a great usage of this; Beast (Adam) has one, Belle has one... and so does Gaston.

Yeah, it's a great story, isn't it? Also, it's the reason we have Murder, She Wrote.
Edit: Also, if you take the movie from the perspective of >!Marina!< then it's a perfect set-up for a Silent Hill game. Remember, James suffered a minor psychotic break in the bathroom at the start of the game >!which is when he blocked out the memory of killing his wife !< so the inciting incident in the story could count as the trigger for the fogs to capture >!Marina!<.

Jacob's Ladder — literally inspired the games, required viewing
Session 9 — abandoned asylum, slow psychological unraveling
Annihilation — reality dissolving, body horror, constant wrongness
Come True — the monster imagery looks like Otherworld concept art
Pontypool — isolated, surreal, horror from not understanding what's happening

I loved and for awhile owned Jacob's ladder on dvd one of my favorites. I avoided the remake herd bad things. You are the second to recommend session 9
Virus in the English langue trying you into a zombie conversationalist what the heck. Pontypool sounds like a comedy but according to Google it is a serious horror movie in spite of it really weird plot
Actually come true sounds amazing I like dream movies
I actually saw and remember liking annihilation though it has been awhile and blanking on it's story now.

Frozen. Not even a joke -- Elsa's isolation due to her powers would do a number on her mental state which could manifest as a freaky Otherworld, with Anna going through Hell to save her.

I was so disappointed in the mouth of madness absolutely hated that there was not pay off and the you knew what the twist at the end was almost at the beginning of the movie.no pay off.
Also you are the third person I have seen to recommend the void.
Bokgeyman I seen that recommended a couple of times
