Suggest me an awesome murder mystery thriller. it could be of any country. Just it needs to be worth it to watch. I am more attracted towards the mystery to solve the who is the murderer or the guilty. A flash detective or police chasing around a mind bending killer. If it's a philosophical killer i like that too. As in seven movie. if so please suggest...
Two of the very best imo are the Korean flick Memories of Murder by Bong Joon Ho and the Japanese film Cure by Kiyoshi Kurosawa. Both are truly excellent!

*Tell No One* (2006)
It's French, and one of the most satisfying murder-mysteries of the past 30 years, filled with emotion and feeling and the best foot chase since *Point Break*.

I’m a fan of the Peter Ustinov Poriot movies. Death on the Nile (1978,) Evil Under the Sun (1982,) Appointment with Death (1988). All a good whodunnit’s you can try and guess along with.

Also excellent, it’s just not one of the Ustinov Poirot’s. Most people would say it’s the best one tho!

The Knives Out films are always a good time.
If you like mystery, you’ll probably like Primal Fear (1996). I would give more of a description but I think it’s best to go in blind.

Knives Out is so phenomenal, the second and third fell off (IMO) but I can watch the first one whenever.

One of the movie adaptations of the novel Red Dragon.
I prefer the one called Manhunter with William Petersen from the early 1980's. But Ed Norton made a version in the early 2000's (I believe).
The way the FBI agent figures out who the killer is is pretty cool. Good detective work.

"Clue" from 1985 is a parody of the murder mystery/whodunit genre, but it's a lot of fun, with a fantastic cast.
I revisited it recently after reading Tim Curry's autobiography, *Vagabond*, in which he said "Clue" was his favorite of all the films he's done.

Se7en wasn't a mystery, it was a procedural.
Death on the Nile is a mystery.

Flat_Fox_7318Apr 2, 2026

Ehh. Finding out who the killer is as well as realizing his motivations are a big part of the story, so it certainly has mystery elements.
5
No-Koala1918Apr 2, 2026
+2
Of course, almost all procedurals have mystery elements. Dirty Harry has mystery elements. And all mysteries, have procedural elements. But the primary characteristic of a mystery is a group of likely suspects. A procedural may have puzzling methods or motivations, but the murderer, as in Se7en, as in Dirty Harry (a more classical procedural construction), is a random individual with individual motivations, not one of a group of potential suspects all with potential motivations, like in Murder on the Orient Express.
To be clear, I'm not saying one makes a better movie than the other, just that they are different. Try writing the same story both as a mystery and as a procedural and that becomes clear really quickly.

check out "Gone Girl" if you haven't seen it yet; it's got that mind-bending vibe and some wild twists. also, "Zodiac" is a classic that dives deep into the hunt for the killer with a philosophical angle.

People have suggested Knives Out - love them all. Great ensemble casts. In that same vein is Gosford Park and Only Murders in the Building.
but I realize now that those are more in the "black comedy" type of film categories. Thriller AKA darker films?
Silence of the Lambs is pretty dark and may fit what you are looking for!
