Jessica's definitely the murderer in this, right?

Hundreds of victims! HUNDREDS!

Another week, another pair of victims: one to kill and one to frame. She can't keep getting away with this!

I felt that if there was a Murder, She Wrote movie, my unhinged brain went "Murder mystery where there are multiple Jessica's solving one murder across multiple dimensions and that's why she has like 55 neices and nephews and nothing seems connected: because every time we jump to a new dimension, and one Jessica could be the murderer killing other Jessicas." I have terrible ideas. This is one of them.

Recently started a rewatch bc its on prime Still holds up, i miss the slower pace of TV shows from back then. Crazy how much time is spent on establishing shots compared to now Edit: Also f*** Amazon with old shows like this, they have built-in ad breaks already. Stop picking random times

Go watch old Columbo. They are self contained movies of the week with good mysteries.

Yup thats where I started. Jumped to this before going to The Return

Luciifuge Mar 25, 2026 +2
Also the poirot series, later seasons were movie length adaptations of the books

I’ve been rewatching lately too. Really a fun network show. Slower, and the obvious backlot tv stuff is endearing—oh hey, there’s the Munsters’ house, there’s the Orca boat from Jaws in the “harbor.” It’s become my comfort tv the last few weeks.

The wildest thing in that that showed how dramatically times have changed is her saying 'yeah, I can go investigate some more, my flight doesn't leave for another 2 hours' like... Now you need to be actively within 10 min of the airport at 2 hours until your flight.

Tubi has it and it's a MUCH BETTER experience. Actually utilizes the old adbreaks with their ads.

I love rewatching Midsomer Murders every now and again for that reason.

Scu-bar Mar 26, 2026 +3
Surely everyone in Midsomer is dead by now, it’s been on for years!

One of my favorite parts of murder mystery serial worldbuilding is that we all have to accept that these otherwise charming, close-knit, sleepy, well-to-do towns are also chock full of murderers.

I rewatched all the episodes during covid. It was comforting to watch. I watched murder she wrote with my parents every week growing up. It’s funny watching it decades later how the murderers just let JB interrogate them. It’s not like she was the police and the actual police dismissed her even when she had a track record of being right. She was a bit of a busybody. I’m excited for the Jamie Lee Curtis version, but was hoping for a show vs a movie.

I just rewatched the Trial by Error episode. Definitely holds up. (I watched 12 Angry Men 1957 right afterwards.)

JLC's energy seems almost opposite to Angela Lansbury's. Jessica Fletcher is like your grandmother who is down-to-earth and exudes this quiet dignity while Jamie Lee Curtis is like your kooky aunt who hates not being the center of attention.

Not looking forward  to this….no one can replace Angela Lansbury.

squish042 Mar 25, 2026 +7
JLC Is a legend in her own right, I think the casting is about as perfect as you can get. IPs have been getting remade since the dawn of Hollywood, no reason to fight it as long as it’s done with care.

She’s not for me, not in this role, but certainly I hope it does well

ElBeno77 Mar 26, 2026 +1
Yeah, this seems pretty close to random + famous to me

Malnurtured_Snay Mar 25, 2026 +24
I hope they set this up so that Jamie is a cousin of Jessica Fletcher. It would be totally believable as Jessica Fletcher had hundreds of cousins, sisters, nephews and nieces.

Worn_Out_1789 Mar 26, 2026 +1
I loved her ridiculous British cousin who was also played by Angela Lansbury.

Curtis apparently loved Knives Out, so I'm not surprised. As much as everyone loves a good murder mystery, however, they're very, very difficult to nail for the big screen. I'll end up watching it for sure, though. I watch all of these types of movies.

The premise will work much better for the big screen, as they just need to tell one story which can rely on the coincidence of a mystery writer being around to solve a mystery. They don’t need to contrive reasons for her to solve a murder week after week after week. Plus, they have 2 hours or more to tell the story rather than having to establish the crime, investigate, and solve it in 44 minutes. Much like The Fugitive, this seems like a show that could actually work better as one standalone story on the big screen rather than a continuing series.

It worked brilliantly as a series …the 2 hour movies were not that good

Yes, but that's all plot. All of it. The reason generic whodunnit works so much better on the small screen is that it's all plot not story. Telling a story (that itself advances and directs the plot) is the whole trick to the big screen.

I think she’s been a nightmare recently tbh. The mad aunt energy is wild. Those Scarpetta scenes were awful.

dont_ama_73 Mar 25, 2026 +5
Yea, she has been in some real bombs lately. Maybe she just retires while she is kinda still on top.

enough jamie lee curtis.

The twist is that murderer is Michael Myers

God if only they had the courage to do this.

I'm so glad Jamie Lee unretired. I remember an interview she did (I think on The View around the time Freaky Friday came out) where she was really self conscious about aging on screen. I think maybe people laughed a little too hard at the Cryptkeeper line in the trailer... I'm glad she's changed her mind because we would have missed out on some great stuff.

Keanu990321 Mar 25, 2026 +9
That was meant to be a joke. She's got at least a decade left, and another Oscar is not off the charts!
9
riegspsych325 Mar 25, 2026 +12
> at least a decade left I know 67 is senior citizen age, but even 77 doesn’t seem “ancient” either. Streep and Mirren seem to be working regularly with no signs of slowing down, same with Jean Smart. Even DeVito hasn’t bothered to take a break and he’s done more batshit crazy things in Always Sunny than anything he did before

Fishes?! She was a black hole in that episode, pulling everything around her into the event horizon. Inescapable gravity

Anybody else feel like they should have committed to a tv show if they wanted to remake this?
2
Singer211 Mar 26, 2026 +2
I still think it would make more sense if JLC was playing one of Jessica’s many, many, MANY relatives in this. And that Jessica died offscreen at some point.

Robsonmonkey Mar 25, 2026 +2
I’m kind of excited for this if they can pull it off.

psychedelic_tech Mar 25, 2026 +2
oh great another remake/reboot/re-imagining. i'm so excited

Sufficient-Plan6558 Mar 25, 2026 +1
This makes sense as I see Curtis has kept herself in Front of the camera recently by producing. In fact? It seems she takes a good script, writes in a character for her to play then has it made. Scarpetta and the sticky come to mind. Both are good.

Red letter media joked about this years ago… and now it’s actually happening.
