After rewatching the whole thing, here's my final, completely subjective ranking
Season 2 - peak tension, every character had a purpose, the ranch felt genuinely threatened
Season 3 - great buildup, that finale cliffhanger is still one of the best in recent TV
Season 1 - slow but necessary, aged better on rewatch
Season 4 - completely wasted the Season 3 cliffhanger, felt like a reset button
Season 5 - bloated, too many subplots, lost the thread entirely
The controversial take is obviously Season 4 so low. I know people love the Kayce vision quest but the whole season felt like it was stalling. Season 2 is the show at its best.
Where does everyone else land?
Season 2 definitely hits different - that whole Market Equities storyline had me glued to screen every week, while season 4 just felt like they were buying time until they figured out what to do next.

Your ranking’s almost exactly mine: 2 > 3 > 1 > 4 > 5. Season 4 felt like “previously on Yellowstone” stretched to 10 episodes. Try rewatching 3 and 4 back-to-back, the whiplash is wild.
