My Top 3 Movies

Posted by chace-cader

I wanna know your thoughts as my friends don’t have an eye for this type of creativity in movies. In no order \- One Upon A Time In Hollywood (2019) Beautifully shows what the 60s looked like in cinematic fashion. Multiple story lines showing the lives of different types of people in that time line. Bringing them all together for arguably the best ending of all time. \- BladeRunner 2049 (2017) Maybe the most stunning visuals ever in a movie. A slow burner about a lonely man trying to figure out who he is. Just gorgeous \- Marty Supreme (2025) One of the most motivational and relatable movies I’ve ever watched. And Timothy’s acting might be the best performance I have ever seen. I am a videographer and make short films

once upon a time in hollywood is also one of my favorites of all time. bladerunner 2049 too. marty supreme is where we differ. i would be cautious to call it a motivational movie given that marty is a big ol d*****. the movie has merit but it’s like saying the wolf of wall street is motivational. good movie, bad guy. i wouldn’t even put it on my top 30. 40, or 40 personally. you should try and check out some older movies. rosemarys baby, king of comedy, or under the silver lake + chinatowni + the long goodbye if you enjoy LA movies (which i do very much)

Will do. And I think it was the motivation and passion he had for achieving his dream. And how when he saw his baby at the end it shows the beautiful moment of life and shows him the true beauty of life. Idk my sort of dumb takeaway

Ping pong was his greatest accomplishment and having a child was even bigger

i get it, i think it might register more with your generation than mine. but with him being so unlikable and awful to people it’s hard for me and many to root for him or be motivated by that. for real dude, chinatown, under the silver lake, and the long goodbye are going to rock your world.

Yes I understand your choices as a videographer. You seems more inclined to masterful visuals. I recommend you try more fincher works as well

Fix your formatting mate. you have your line about Marty Supreme underneath your spiel about Bladerunner.

Your top 3 movies are a literal masterpiece! I couldn't agree more. And that last one, Marty Supreme, it's not even out yet and it's already an instant classic. Can't wait for it to be released. Keep making those amazing short films, we need more artistic minds like you in the industry..

I'm not sure where in the Listnook terms and conditions it says "I must be an a****** to use this site/app" but it must given people's responses here, so sorry about that. Random movies off the top of my head I think you might like: Ex Machina, Creed (the trilogy, or start with Rocky if you haven't seen those), and Wolf of Wall Street

And this is off the top of my head when I'm a little drunk. I can't even imagine making a full stratified list of the films I've seen...

Omg They Live is the single best B movie that would have been an A movie with a bigger budget. Also prescient and beautifully executed. Please excuse Rowdy Roddy Piper's mediocre performance.

I have seen so many movies that it's almost impossible to make a top 3 list. 2001: A Space Odyssey has been one of my favorite movies since I was 15. Her is honestly one of the most prescient and relatable movies of this century, in my opinion. Makes me ugly cry every time. No Country For Old Men AND The Big Lebowski are perfect movies, as far as I'm concerned. Videodrome and The Fly are incredible body horror films. The Thing is one of the best horror / suspense films ever made. Goodfellas is maybe the best gangster movie ever made. Eraserhead is what introduced me to avant garde, low budget student films that can change the way you see how art can be expressed. I don't know. I don't even pretend to be able to pick a top 3.

Hell yea I always love to see Her mentioned. One of my all time favorites as well

It is absolutely incredible. I'm glad he won best screenplay, but in my opinion, should have won best picture.

dave_ketchup13 Apr 1, 2026 +1
Agreed. Tho I don’t mind 12 years a slave winning. I do really wish Arcade Fire won for score tho especially cuz the music is such an important part. Yes I am listening to it right now and crying a lil. Dammit lol

I'd even say, the nuance of directing a sex scene between a man and a computer voice seems almost insurmountable, but Spike Jones did it magnificently. I genuinely felt the connection between the characters - and one of the characters wasn't even on screen!!! He should have had more recognition for both best direction and best pic

dave_ketchup13 Apr 1, 2026 +2
Yea totally. It’s really incredible from both Spike and Scarlet how much emotion was portrayed just through a voice. I thought she should’ve had a nomination as well

My frustration lies in that 12 Years a Slave is classic statue bait. Her was not only the most original movie on the list of best pics, but it was also perfectly executed. The Oscar doesn't have to go to the most "classic" best pic w*****. Her was very outside the norm, but I genuinely think it was one of the best movies of the decade. Easily.

Yea I definitely agree with that. That’s why I try not to take the Oscars too seriously for the most part. This year I thought it was ridiculous that Golden (a basic pop song) beat out Train Dreams a truly incredible and unique piece, and K-pop demon hunters beat out the creativity of Little Amelie. I knew it was gonna, but was still a little disappointed cuz those were really special imo

Check out Black Swan, Se7en and No Country for Old Men. They’re all darker than your picks but strong on tone, atmosphere and character. One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest is a great one too for emotional impact. Some of my personal favourites are Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels, Being John Malkovich and Fargo - all pretty different but def worth checking out if you’re into different styles of filmmaking.
