> US, China, major Middle East oil and gas producers not attending China apparently has its own idea on how to reduce exposure, while US is just an idiot.

Best we can do is double down that wind and solar is bad. Oil good.

Left-Night-1125 10 hr ago +2
Might as well double down on Nucleair is bad. Greenpeace is partly to blame for this crisis.

Full_Result_3101 10 hr ago +2
The Hippies really fucked us in the 60's with their anti-nuclear bullshit, Its too late/impractical now to switch to nuclear tho. Solar/Wind/Hydro/etc.. is cheaper.

redsquizza 7 hr ago +1
Nuclear power was supposed to be a boon that energy would be too c**** to meter. Then some disasters happened and everyone got cold feet.

Didn't a member of Congress straight up say wind is bad, because it's not a renewable energy resource? Smfh

Suspicious_Place1270 7 hr ago +1
not every person knows that wind is produced by bird farts

More windmills near Trump’s golf courses please.

Make them spell out trump is a c*** via satellite

Put speakers on them and you could broadcast your public service announcement.

He seems to be spelling that out pretty clearly himself

Maybe the US is ashamed of what they have done, and that's why they decided to ignore this event/s

MiserableTennis6546 12 hr ago +8
The people might feel it but Trump and the gang are incapable of feeling shame.

I think it's just that oil is the easiest type of energy to exploit and make money off of. I don't know for sure tho.

More like "China -- looks at the insane rate that it's already building renewable power plants -- It's ok, we're good"

The writings been on the wall for what, three decades? Why are these leaders so hilariously unfit for these times.

I don’t know of a single competent leader.

maaaybe Carney? But he is likely going to get bogged down trying to use normal neolib economics to slowly right the ship, ignoring the massive hole in the side

China has been at the forefront of green, wind & other alternative power sources for years. The bullshit propaganda the US pushes would have you think the Chinese still live in straw huts. Most of the world wants to move on from fossil fuels because there’s enough scientific research to back up the long term harm to the environment and humans overall health. It’s only the US that is more interested in lining the pockets of the already super wealthy to appease donors. They voted to choke on smog, Let them eat cake.

Even discarding all that, oil just doesn't make much sense strategically. Letting a handful of middle eastern countries control your whole country's economy, with complex logistics that spans half the world. Renewable (and to a much lesser extent, nuclear) makes you so much less dependent on others, especially ones that doesn't align with your ethics/morals. Europe is learning the hard way after the Russian invasion.

My 6 year old shitty EV totally agrees with you. It's still doing 95% of our driving, free of any Middle East issues. During summer it's almost totally powered by our solar panels too.

China gets more than 60% of their electricity from coal. They're just as bad as anyone else. Edit: I love the downvoting of a fact. Perfect.

Sieve-Boy 11 hr ago +8
Actually as of 2025 coal now supplies \~55% of China's electricity. Its not that total coal consumption is declining (it is, but only marginally), its just that the strong growth in electrical consumption is being fulfilled by wind and solar.

"looks at anything outside a big city, realizes it's not true and they still do live in tofu dreg apartments or unfinished houses" Stats from china are simply unreliable. I'm not denying their movement for renewables, but it's a fact that they still use a sh*tton of coal and other ecologically crazy expensive energy sources

There's been a strong demoralization campaign from China to, well... Demoralize Americans. And it's working so well. China is making great strides with tech without a doubt. But a lot of people addicted to social media have fallen into a trap. All of the content that says China is amazing, and that everything about the US is bad. This isn't some conspiracy theory. It's just straight up happening. Just use basic logic anyway: You want to be number 1, but you can't overtake America by force or anything remotely like that. Well, next best thing is to demoralize, as well as divide and conquer. You can make tons of bots with shitty Android phones, and then sway people's opinions on a topic. Imagine what you can do with government funding and servers.

exactly, and that dude commenting on my comments is really not understanding the propaganda

What are you blabbing about. The same can be said for the U.S. Outside of any city in the U.S. the rednecks all live in meth house shit heaps. China’s cities are already vastly superior to any U.S. city in terms of infrastructure and public utilities. Just go visit any tier 1 or 2 city and it’s night and day compared to the U.S. Burning 6 trillion to blow up random brown people every few years is really starting to show our underinvestment in our own society.

you're focusing too much on USA, I'm not talking about that China is heavily investing in its cities, but everything else is literally, no joke, falling apart
1
madgoblin92 11 hr ago +1
Which "outside of big city" are you referring to? Example please? Have you really been to China lately? I was personally there in multiple rural regions of Yunnan and even there deep in the mountains the facilities and apartments you have there are comparable to many European cities. And a lot of buildings are built with solar heaters. Yeah, propaganda has to flow.

F1No47 12 hr ago
What % of their energy production is renewables. And by what % is that increasing/decreasing every year? How do those numbers look compared to the US?
0
Suspicious_Place1270 11 hr ago -1
comparing anything to the us, a 3rd world country, is nonsense. usa is doing nothing to help their population as said, stats from china are not reliable

ai love it how "nations" think about exiting this garbage once it stops being c**** if we could have only done this sooner

MiserableTennis6546 12 hr ago +6
The oil economies have held up the climate talks for years, so we're going to have to go on with talks without them to get anything done. It has very little to do with the price.

I notice the article calls out moving away from fossil fuels numerous times, yet fails to mention what they're moving to... solar? nuclear? hamster wheel powered turbines? The closest they get is saying "to electric" ...but what is creating that electric?

Carbonga 7 hr ago +1
It really should be called the US war.

DifferenceNo3000 10 hr ago
Fossil exit will never be a viable thing, as long as the infrastructure is vulnerable
